I figured this would be the best forum to post this in.

Skarlet began rather inocuously 7 years ago as a bit of a joke character in my sprite comic, The Adventures of Spirit Liu. She was essentially a vehicle with which to make fun of Johnny Cage, by suggesting that the only woman interested in him was one who didn't actually exist. This also showed up in the Chinese Ninja Food segment of Konquest of the Kamidogu VIII.

But I didn't really think much about the character until I got Soul Calibur III and I created a version of her in that game. I started to think about the aesthetic of Mortal Kombat and how it was lacking a cute female character who was not rocking huge tatas. So I made her, dressed her up in blood red and coloured her hair blonde.

I don't have any pics and although I could take some now...my PS2 is currently in storage.

By the time Mortal Kombat Armageddon came out, I had a very definite idea of who this character was and I created her in that game as well. Though it was impossible to make a female character with reasonably sized breasts or one that could be considered to be cute, I made a decent effort of it.





Here is a biography I wrote for the character.

MKA Biography
Skarlet's origins have always been clouded in mystery. She has been cared for by residents of a small rebel village in Outworld for as long as she can remember, and reminded daily of her importance to the future. It is prophesized by the village seer that one day, she will destroy Shao Kahn and free Outworld. To this end, she has received continuous training in the deadly arts and mastery of the villages only weapon, the scythe.

She was present during the Mortal Kombat tournament held by Shao Kahn in Outworld, curious about these tenacious Earthrealm outsiders, but was not discovered. During the invasion of Earthrealm by Shao Kahn, she remained in Outworld, training, becoming stronger.

With news of Shao Kahn's death at the hands of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, the elders of the village wondered if the prophecy had been wrong. Skarlet had remained close to the village when Shao Kahn was usurped and had played no part in the Emperor's fall. It soon became clear, however that reports of the Emperor's demise were greatly exaggerated. And with that revelation, the time has come for Skarlet to fulfill her destiny.

This is her ending, which was far too big for the game itself.

MKA Ending
Skarlet entered the heat of battle with one goal in mind, the destruction of Shao Kahn. She eventually found him, among the kombatants, choking the very life from Queen Sindel of Edenia. She struck quickly, impaling the Emperor of Outworld through the stomach with her scythe. Sindel broke away from the Emperor's grasp, fell to the ground, gasping, and Shao Kahn turned all of his fury on this impudent outsider. However, when Shao Kahn looked into her eyes, for the first time in milennia he could not speak.

Thousands of years ago, when he took Edenia and its queen for a wife, Shao Kahn adopted Kitana as his own, but he knew she would never truly be his daughter and heir. Manipulated into obedience to the Emperor by powerful sorcery, Sindel and Shao Kahn shortly after had a daughter of their own, Saer Kal.

But Sindel was not weak minded and no sorcery could overcome her grief at this violation. She took the baby Saer Kal and drowned her in the sea, before taking her own life. Shao Kahn was enraged. He destroyed everything and everyone for miles around the spot where Sindel was found, an area eventually come to be known as the Wastelands.

But Saer Kal had not been taken from him. The baby had not drowned. Shao Kahn's very blood flowed through her veins, making her powerful and immortal. The baby had been discovered on the shoreline by a traveller and taken back to his village in the distant mountains. There she was presented to the village elders and named Skarlet. From an early age, she possessed immeasurable strength, a gift from her bloodline, and the village seer prophesized that one day she would destroy Shao Kahn and free Outworld.

Skarlet stabbed and sliced with her scythe, dominating the Emperor. Shao Kahn was brought to one knee by the relentless onslaught. She readied her scythe to remove the Emperor's head but Shao Kahn stopped the scythe in midair with a powerful block and crushed the shaft in his grip. Skarlet backed away, unarmed and Shao Kahn began to laugh. "Saer Kal," he said, which confused Skarlet, and Sindel looked up from the ground in horror.

Shao Kahn turned on the Queen of Edenia once more and laughed uproariously. "You thought you could take her away from me. Ha! Look at her, Sindel. She is more powerful than you could ever hope to be." He stomped the Queen of Edenia's head into the ground and turned back to Skarlet, reaching his arm out to her. She backed away further.

"I came to destroy you and free Outworld, Shao Kahn."

"I am your father, Saer Kal. You are my blood. For ten thousand years I have mourned your loss only to find on this day that you live."

"I...came to destroy."

"Then you shall, Saer Kal. We shall. Let us start with the firespawn." And with that, he gripped her firmly by the hand and led her up the pyramid.

When Soul Calibur IV came out, I created two versions of the character in that game.





Since then, I have created 7 character concepts in SCIV based on the MKA storyline I wrote for her.















I've made other ideas and concepts about the character, but this is the one I've basically settled on. I like it. So yeah, now you know why I'm always saying Skarlet should be blonde. And cute.

And Shao Kahn's daughter.
