That's why I suggest submitting a 'collage' of 4 pictures as opposed to just 1. You get 4 pic's of varied quality, but it'll be much easier to get the idea down.

The paint thing I can tell now is just your personal preference...

I'm just a fan of detail and professional-quality work.

On the pants thing, well with clay you can implement details but as I said I wasn't going for an "ultra baggy look" and was concentrating on the overall sculpture, not "just his pants" clothes and clay are very different.

Whenever I need folds, even slight ones, I just carve out what I need (usually with a paper clip) and add on a small amount of clay about the part I carved out. It looks realistic and doesn't make clothing appear 'baggy'.

Since you said you sculpt as a hobby(not enough to post on here I take it?) then you should know exactly what I'm referring to, it's not an easy thing to do despite what the artists level is. Beginner, intermediate or advanced, sculpting is always a big challenge.!quote>

I haven't made anything MK related (maybe I should start, eh?) But, yeah, I know what you're talking about. Its hard and shit and its time consuming as hell.

I wish sometimes that sculpting was like drawing or painting in the sense that you can just erase a mistake or paint over something to save it.

If you work with regular clay, you can just smooth over it with water whenever you fuck up. I'm guessing you prolly can't do that with oil-based clay...

I have the tools for it, to splice, bond, scorge etc for finer details. I just didn't want to like I said initially to give him an ultra baggy look. Besides, you might have liked that but someone else would have said "legs too big" guarantee it so you really can't please everyone. I did that once before with one of the ninjas(oldschool style) with the baggier pants and someone complained about "the legs being too big or too baggy" lol

I believe you can make things professionally without paints sometimes, different styles you know? But just so you know, some people believe it or not have pmed me on here or elsewhere offering money for me to make them duplicates of stuff I've posted or custom MK related jobs like for example. I can't remember the user, but someone on here way back wanted Shao Kahn's Helmet, just the helmet and nothing else. Someone else wanted Kabal's Weapons, and the others were different characters.

It's not an oil based clay that I use(not greasy, oily or smelly like some oil clays or paints), just normal professional modelling clay that works very well actually. Some clay's are more gritty or crumby, I can't work with clay's like that. What you're referring to sounds more like organic clay, stoneware or Mexican Clay where water is key and you can keep wetting it. I made a few pieces that had to be done in a kiln once, we used water, fun stuff but messy as hell. There's all kinds of regular clay that are different, for different purposes. In most cases I won't mess up enough to start over and just work on whatever the mistake is, but when I first started I made lots of mistakes which most people go thru.

By all means, go for it nobody else on here sculpts(from scratch) besides me really so I'd like to see what your style is. I enjoy painting, Sculpting and drawing but Sculpting is my high area. Everyone's different

Modelling clay is oil-based, yo.

Its organic with some synthetic chemicals added in so it doesn't need to be wetted as much, and it doesn't stick like regular clay, either (its essentially soft modeling clay that can be fired, but its dirt cheap...) It doesn't loose moisture as fast when its worked with, but it dries faster then regular clay when its left alone.

By all means, go for it nobody else on here sculpts(from scratch) besides me really so I'd like to see what your style is. I enjoy painting, Sculpting and drawing but Sculpting is my high area. Everyone's different

I whip something up then.

Some modelling clay isn't oil based(the shitty ones usually or a cheap brand) but the one I use is very good with just the right amount. Not that greasy, not that dry.

Depending on which organic clay you're referring exactly (Terikata) for example the mex clay needs water. I've worked with it it's fun but really messy, water is key with clay's like that but there are some others that don't need as much or any at all

Good luck on your first MK sculpture attempt
