Wow, this is fantastic art. I wish more artists now a days payed as much attention to detail as you do. I love the shading highlights, and the values are just stunning. You were very creative with the hair and regardless of what the majority of reactions are, like you said, it gets you're point across and it obviously draws attention. Overall fantastic work. I gave you a 5 and if I could, I would change your overall rating too ^_^.
I can post a version of her with black hair, if you guys want to see what it looks like.

You know.. I really love all of your designs...

but this one - honestly, I don't like it. When I think of Jade, I think of oriental beauty.

I really really don't like the hair... but I guess that's my opinion. She sorta looks like an old dyke.

But seriously - don't take any offense. It's just my opinion. I know you can do better though.
Jade is not oriental. Also, Jade never looked oriental in any MK. The only thing that made her look sort of like a ninja was the mask. But I think that the sandals, and the Dragon's head on her knee does the same job as the mask.

1) she looked of Eastern origins in MK: Abomination, just in case you forgot since it was such a horrid memory for us all.
2) For the record, she also isn't African, or a Stop The Insanity! cover-girl for that matter (at least... so we hope ^^). She's Edenian with a tan. ;p Vs. Kitana that got no exposure to Earth Sun.
The movie doesn't count. And I never said she was African.

I think of her as an Edanian black woman. Because she is too dark in UMK3 for that to just be a tan. Even Hispanics are lighter than that, for the most part.

I know she is not African, and that she is Edanian. And in the MK video game storyline, it is never said wether she is white, or black.

Everything that she is wearing, white people wear too.

even the ear plugs.

The costume was a mixture of English, Japanese, and African cultures.

ActingArtisit made no mention of Jade actually being Oriental; just that when thought of, Oritenal-esque beauty came to mind. I'm not trying to be an ass, just refuting the refutes. :)
I'm not mad at all if you thought I was.

It takes a lot to tick me off. I am a very passive person.

I was just saying what I thought of Jade. I'm not trying to argue.

Anyway, I would never try to offend you, because I like you. You have a nice personality, and are very friendly.

You know, when I think of Jade, I think of an oriental, black mix. Then it explains both sides of her looks. However, I usually think of her hair as a bit straighter. Just because a person's black or has black in them, doesn't mean that they have nappy hair. I know, I have mine relaxed ^_~.
True, but there are many types of hair, this is the one I liked the best.
Actually, I tried many styles, this is just the one favored.
I have never seen a mixed person with straight hair, unless they had it done at the salon.


All of my friends from African decent have the nappy hair, I didn't even think of giving Jade the straight hair.

Bahh, let's not turn this into a fan boy argument of what a character is "supposed" to be. Leave that on the weak MK:DA forum. Since this is an art forum let's discuss the artistic qualities. I actually like your interpretation, white hair, ear lobe plugs, dark skin and all. Jade is such a nebulous character (in the games, movies and TV doesn't count) that it's hard to say what she is. This latest push by everyone making her a black woman is cool. I hope Midway takes note and uses it.

I'm ranting because I've got something in the works for Kitana that changes her "style" a bit. My hope is I don't get hammered by purists who refuse to see the characters any other way besides what's in the game. My belief is she doesn't walk around in a leotard all day with thigh high boots and her boobs hanging out. She is supposed to be royalty and a general.

I totally agree. I've been working on a new outfit for her myself. I think it's about time we saw the Edenian Empress side of Kitana, not the oggling fanboy side.
