Yeah, that's another problem with it. We weren't really aware of how bad it was going to be until it was too late. We have it, so we might as well give it away, I've just been reluctant to do so. Most likely the main prize will be a combination package (no confirmation of this just yet).
I'm a kollector of strange and obscure stuff so I actually want one of the prima guides. I'm sure it will be another thing of video game legends a few years down the line.

As well, with suh a long deadline leading into the close of submissions, as callous as it sounds, it rather serves you right, so to speak, for submitting your characer so late. I obviously don't mean that in the sense that you deserve punishment for not being first out of the gate, but it's really only fair that the last to audition should be the ones competing for their spots.

And to the person commenting that no one really knows much about their first round opponents, that's only mostly true. I'm up against Komodo from the Prelims. And while I have confidence in my character, Komodo is strong enough a concept hat I'm not going to make any arrogant "You're done for!" comments anytime soon.

So just how the fuck do you know when I submitted my kharacter? And even so, who the fuck are you? Crow took the time to submit it, right? So apparently I was entered in plenty of time. This rude attitude I'm giving you... yeah... serves you right.

Okay, let me break this down for you.

The total number of participants is 96

The first 88 people to complete their kharacters and submit them into the tournament got in guaranteed. Anyone after that cut off point of 88 would have to duke it out for one of the final 8 spots (which became nine because someone did not submit a complete kharacter) in a preliminary round if the total number of entrants went beyond 96.

We had 101 entrants. You were entrant #96. Thusly you went into the preliminary round.

Nothing unfair about it, you weren't one of the first 88 so you had to fight for your spot.

Also, it's not like this is the kind of tournament where having seen the opposition makes gives you a better shot against them. We can't change our characters after the cut off point, which was the 7th (before the prelims even started). If anything it gives the people in the prelims an advantage because people have a longer period of time to grow attached to them.

As far as prizes go, it will probably be announced some time shortly after I reveal the character pages. MKO has a stockpile of prizes; right now I'm trying to decide what's more appropriate to give away for this particular contest.

As weird as it may sound, I'm ten times more excited about the actual competition and seeing all the characters than winning the prizes.

I mean, I'm positive the prizes are going to kick ass, but that's not the main reason I entered the tournament.

It doesn't sound weird at all. Not to me at least. I really want to see what everyone came up with, and too see how well my charachters will do. I really don't care about the price, anything, even nothing, is ok for me.

Yeah,I feel the same but I think some kool prizes could be as simple as a free Flawless upgrade on MKO or some DLC. It would be a lot easier than having to send stuff by mail. Though I would like some swag from the latest E3 or something from one of the editions of the game because I only got the standard copy but something digital is easier and faster.

Shinomune... I will suffer? Do not underestimate the fighting spirit of a being on the verge of extinction...

Do not underestimate the rage of a being that's bent on revenge.

Shoulen's abilities are 'unique'! Less predictable then that of your own.

Suffer? You will feel the suffering Shoulen's race had suffered.

Thanks! You too, it's up to the girls to show them how it's done I suppose.

Of course that's what I"d say, Khaali would say "Save your luck for some pathetic warrior who needs them."

Well,my character is female but I am male lol. Luna would say "There will be blood on the moon so you shall need precious luck!".

Blood on the moon as reference to the belief that it is a sign of trouble & tragedy.

I think the ideal grand prize would be a professional artists take on the winning character. Obviously probably not likely as we hardly have professional artists on tap, but would be great.

This was actually the first contest's grand prize; JAX007 agreed to create the image fpr the winner. I'm sure he's a pretty busy guy, and with nothing in it for him it would be rather tough to ask it of him.

But, if he were to offer, I wouldn't decline on letting him do it if he wished.

Oh I see, well that's great.

I personally think that as nice as books and dlc codes and all that stuff is, it's nothing thousands of other fans don't have, or that could simply be purchased online. Something personalized like that however, would be unique and really worth winning.

Woah! You're damn right about the rude attitude there! :/

Basically the 'first eight' of you, were actually eight of the last to enter. With the cut off point being 96 entries, anyone who entered after the 88th submission had to compete to get into the competition, not to make it into the first brackets as you seem to have thought.

As someone else pointed out you were the 96th entrant, so it is pretty plain to see when 'the fuck' you submitted your character. I'm not saying it's your fault or anything, or that you shouldn't be in the competition, but Crow has stated from day one how submission to the contest would work, and it always included a preliminary contest if numbers went higher than the required total, so I don't see how you can get so worked up about having to fight for your spot in the contest. It was made clear from day one.

You're not at any disadvantage by having your character out there first either, so just chill. :)

Wow I really like that idea. I'd much rather have an artists rendering of my character than a prima guide or something I could nab online. I probably won't win but if I did id hang that pic on my fridge or better yet frame it and put it in my mancave!

Relax guys. I was referring to the Prima guide. We have one of the KE versions and were going to be giving it away as a prize, but due to the abysmal reviews and general lack of content, it's sort of a dud as a good prize. If it had not sucked, there's a good chance I could have used it for this contest due to the art related content it was supposedly going to contain (this being an artsy type contest).

what about the concept art book then? seems even more appropriate in a way.

anyway, i certainly didnt enter this contest for any prizes. didnt even enter it to win, tbh, i just cant wait to see everybody's entries and hear what people think of my character/

I agree it would be unique but not official MK swag. I dunno,I think if there is to be prizes than they should be a bit more worth while. Some people put lots of time into these characters and take it a bit more seriously than others...so a simple drawing of their character is kinda like winning the 3 alt for Mileena in the tower. Which to some would possibly make it feel like it was not worth all the effort. Especially if they are doing it just for the prizes. Me I never win crap so it is all fun for me lol.
Edit: To bad we did not have a MUGEN expert to make the winner playable in an actual MK MUGEN project.

The same could be said for you, my friend. Profanity and insults aren't exactly the most mature response. I understand that my phrasing was perhaps inadequate, but name-calling is petty.

As the posters above me have stated, there's a very good reason the final 9 had to compete fr their spots. From the posting of this thread, Crow gave us over two weeks to complete our designs and submit them. Now, as an IT professional with a wife and family, I may not have the busiest schedule here, but I certainly have one busy enough that if I could get one submitted, most others should have been able to without a problem. Obviously I cannot speak for everyone, but it was not as if a tight, overly short deadline was created for this.

As such, Crow had two realistic options for rounding out the numbers. The first is to do what he did, and since we cannot edit our characters post-deadline, the final 13 are at no real disadvantage, and as the last to send in a completed character, those 13 are the obvious candidates to have to earn a spot. And this is also, by the by, how I know when "the fuck" you submitted your character, as was pointed out by someone else.

The other choice was for Crow to decide which 13 designs he, and perhaps the judges, considered least qualifed for the contest, and have them compete for those last slots. Unfortunately this woul also remove the community element from deciding those "worthy" and "unworthy" and would undermine the whole point of this contest: by which the players help decide what we consider a good character design for MK.

As such, Crow had to decide between letting unbiased time of submittal decide who got in, or choose for himself and remove the "Community" from a community based contest.

He made the right choice. And you made it in. So what's the complaint?

I submitted my KaK the 2nd week this was out. I think I may have rushed through it though, since I figured everyone would try to get in asap to get a spot.
But anyways I don't think I kept with the time line so I'm doomed already :(
But it was fun kreating it, I had a lil help of my co-worker which he knows nothing about MK lol

I had plenty of time here but I was not able to get my revisions all in because of power outages and the tornado that went through my town so I think that is reasonable excuse enough to complain but am I...nope. I have not got any answers from Crow if he got my latest on time or not and I just messaged him again not long ago. Crow bud...I know your busy but hit me up with some answers man! At this point I am thinking of just posting it all for fun and if I get disqualified oh well lol.
