Once GIMP is opened...
At the top left of GIMP, click File. Then Click New.
A new window should pop up.
This is where you put the in the size. Now my usual size is 350X125, (350 on top, 125 on bottom) but you can do any size that you want. Ok, moving on.
A New window should now pop up. This will be where you make your sigs.
You have many options on GIMP's main. Which is where all your tools are located.
To access brushes, look for the symbol of a brush. To use gradeints, look for the symbol of a square box thats black & white.
There are also filters... Look for them on the window you create your sigs on. Its at the top of the window.
Go to Deviant Art to download some brushes.
To get brushes into GIMP do the following.
Right Click GIMP,
Go to properties,
Click Find Target
Find GIMP 2.0, (Should be at the left side somewhere)
Then Click Share
Then GIMP
Then 2.0
Then brushes...
Then open the file your downloaded brushes are in, and drag the over to that folder.
Hope this helps, Good luck.

Gracious, I was actually hoping that you would be the one to answer my question.

You click file on the long menu that first comes up.
PhotoShop is the best program...

This confused me as well
You need to download two programs, GTK+ and GIMP installers from the site.
After you download them, install both programs, you need to install one and then the other, but I don't remember which you install first, I think it was GTK+.

Dude, if that's plagerism, you're fuckin screwed. I almost got kicked off for it(er, more like making a piece of work that looked too much like the original) but CrispyDragon made a few "suggestions" to what I do, so I'm not banned.
Idk, I just noticed your sig with Master Chief now, if that's the sig Skinsley was talking about.

For the current one, I am sorry to say it's pretty bad.
The Master Chief render is horribly pixelated and the background is sort of repetetive.
My advice is to take some tutorials on making sigs on GIMP- follow Kamionero's link. I remember searching for tutorials and the site came into the search results. It has some nice tuts though I never use them.
I gave you a good render.....how did you manage to make it look pixelated.....the quality is terrible on the whole sig.
The lightning is just the same few bolts coppied and pasted.
Tuts are your friend....all over the internet!!
