Well, I dont have bright 3d stages to make them more realistic. There is no magical big bright white lightbulbs in MK stages as they are represented in the 2d games. Initially I made the 3d stages artificially and unrealisticly lit to match the 2d games' screenshots, but I chose realism instead and now my maps are lit based on fair amounts of semi-realistic fire torches and bowls, or sunlight/moonlight. I do the best I can to realisticly light the stages enough so everyhting is visible. UT2004 has gamma, brightness and contrast controls in game if anyone wants to make the game brighter.
