The MK Online Fan Art Contest! (Deadline: March 31, 2004)
The MK Online Fan Art Contest! (Deadline: March 31, 2004)
By popular demand, MK Online is holding a true fan art contest, one which welcomes all forms of artwork. Without a doubt, we have some of the finest artists here, each gracing this forum with their creative works of art. Creativity.. is something I wanted to work into the theme of this very first contest. Seeing as how MK6 is on the horizon, I thought a nice idea would be to involve that with this contest. Other than the Baraka render, we have no glimpses at to what MK6 will be like.. and with that, here's the theme & guidelines:
Theme:
Create your own custom character for Mortal Kombat 6/Deception.
Submitting:
You will submit your entry via the Fan Art system here at mortalkombatonline.com, as you submit normal fan arts. You will 'tag' your submission, to show that it is part of this contest with the following words : Contest 2004. Followed by whatever title you choose for your entry.
Deadline:
The deadline for this entire competition is March 31, 2004. A very generous amount of time, I believe.
Voting:
Even though the actual submitting process will involve the fan art system, the actual voting will be done here in this thread. You will cast your vote for one participant of each category, Drawings and Fakes. These are two SEPERATE contests, so there will be two seperate sets of winners.
Prizes:
Everyone who enters will receive the consolation prize of 2 dragon points. This is what normal fan art submissions usually receive, so I thought it only fair. Third, second, and first place winners of each seperate contest will receive additional dragon points. Here are the awards, remember there will be two sets of winners:
3rd Place: 5 Dragon Points
2nd Place: 7 Dragon Points
1st Place: 10 Dragon Points
Hand Drawing Contest:
Disclaimer:
All participating artists agree to let their drawing be colored. If you would not like your drawing colored, please send me a PM and I'll be sure your drawing isn't.
Guidelines:
1) Draw your own custom character, with Mortal Kombat 6/Deception in mind.
2) The drawing must be of ONE character, it must not have appeared in ANY Mortal Kombat related entities; it may be drawn in a pose of your choice.
3) Drawings must be black & white. Hatching and Inking are allowed. Please, no gray, we want pure line art.
4) You may add a background story for your character in the "Author Comments" section when you are submitting.
5) Remember quality and originality count; impress the voters with something never before seen.
6) Standard Fan Art System rules apply. Your image must be in JPG format, and must be less that 350KBs.
7) As stated above, you will 'tag' your submission. If you are participating in the drawing contest, you will add this to whatever title you select for your entry: Contest 2004(Drawing). Add the word (Drawing), to show you are partaking in Hand Drawing part of this contest.
Fake Picture Contest:
Guidelines:
1) Create your own custom sprite, with Mortal Kombat 6/Deception in mind.
2) You may use MK1/MK2/MK3/UMK3/MKT sprites to create your character.
3) The custom character must be performing a fatality on an existing character from the Mortal Kombat series. Again, you may use MK1/MK2/MK3/UMK3/MKT sprites.
4) You may add a background story for your character in the "Author Comments" section when you are submitting.
5) Remember quality and originality count; creating a palette swap ninja as your custom character most likely won't earn you any votes.
6) Standard Fan Art System rules apply. Your image must be in JPG format, and must be less that 350KBs.
7) As stated above, you will 'tag' your submission. If you are participating in the fake pic contest, you will add this to whatever title you select for your entry: Contest 2004 (Fake). Add the word "Fake", to show you are partaking in Fake Picture part of this contest.
I want to see as many of you participate as possible. You may post here, saying that you are going to be participating, or you can PM me if you wish not to feel 'binded'. Either way, I'd like to know the list of participants before the contest begins.
I send my best wishes to all who participate, good luck.

I was thinking of creating drawings of the God of Fire, God of Earth, and the Goddess of Water, they would be different then the ones in MK Mythologies, so would that be able to qualify for characters? Thanx

This is a bit tough. The Elemental Gods of Mortal Kombat Mythologies were never given names, or much in the way of personality. However, they were characters, and I did say they could not have appeared in any Mortal Kombat related entities. I'll think this over though, I won't make a decision just yet.

I searched under the name Fujin cause I wanted to see wat came up cuz i figured he could be in it also. I came to a site about Japanese mythoogy and it said that Fujin is the real name of the Japanese god of wind. I kept searching and I found the real names of the other gods I was thinking of drawing. For water it said Ame-No-Mi-Kumari was the Japanese goddess of water. For fire, it said Hinokagutsuchi was the Japanese god of fire. And for earth it said Onamuji was the Japanese earth god. Instead of a creature like appearance I wanted to give them a human look like Fujin and Raiden. I just figured the story could be like the clans are becoming chaotic since the Dragon King arose and they decided to join the tournament to bring order back into the world and they could no longer look after the world because of the horrible conditions so they fled their jobs and joined the competition. They could each have their own weapons but use their certain abilities like Raiden does. Thanx it might not be the best story but i hope u consider allowing me to enter my drawings.

My chances of actually being able to participate are slim to none ;D
That being said, I'll still submit something.

I could not win even if my brother was a prominent politician in florida.

I might even try my hand at this for the practice, though if it by slim chance ended up I would be awarded points, I'd forfeit them to the runner up or just not accept any as they do me no good. lol

Take the time to consider the above statement, Sllohcin. :)

Sllohcin Wrote: I saw that but that doesn't say "I" can colour my own piece... Am I correct in my thinking? I would prefer to colour my own art for the contest. |
The art isn't going to be colored for this contest. This is simply because some people may not be able to color their work, and it would be unfair to those people if coloring was allowed. The voters in this contest would be inclined to vote for colored drawings, so this eliminates that. No one is going to be coloring these drawings before this contest, they all will be judged as is, exactly the way you submitted them.
Also, this contest will not be in brackets. It will be everyone against everyone, other than the seperation between drawings and fakes, that is.
Gl1tch Wrote: okay, but we can at least shade the drawings right? |
Well, sure I suppose so.
Also, one last thing that hasn't been mentioned yet, entering both contests. If you want, and have the time, you are welcome to participate in the drawing contest and the fake pic contest.

ok i have another question, can we submit 2 pictures, one of a detailed upperbody to make his/her atributes clearer, and one of him/her in some action shots, or would we have to combine the two in our entry?

Combine them. If we get as many participants as I am hoping, this forum will be quite full. If you want to have a "sub-sketch" of your character (it must be the same character), then I suppose its fine.

I'll join, this should help me expess some of my ideas. :D

These guidelines don't sound very good. Mostly the no coloring and the topic.
I understand the no coloring to make it fair but I usually like coloring mine and I don't like others coloring them.
The real beef is the topic. It's very limiting for sure. I find the unique characters to be the least interesting art posted on this site. I see no logical reason to have a topic like this except to hype the new Mortal Kombat. Could we possibly have something different?

What about digital drawings? It's kind of preposterous to allow fakes if digital drawings aren't allowed. Fakes are almost always just edits of somebody else's pixel art.
Also, you might as well give MaxDam and Jax007 the first place prizes right now. I'll be surprised if anybody beats them.
