I think the theme (topic) is great but the "no-colouring" takes me out... sorry. Maybe next time.

Gee, Hyuga. :) And a hearty "Fick dich" to you, too. :)

That would be a lot more disheartening if you hadn't used BabelFish :P

I didn't. I learned it from my German friend, but that was years ago and I don't know how to write it. I was sure that was correct, but I guess I wasn't. Oops... I just realised I wrote Fich instead of Fick. Oh well.

What about digital drawings? It's kind of preposterous to allow fakes if digital drawings aren't allowed. Fakes are almost always just edits of somebody else's pixel art.

Originally, I did want to have a contest for all three categories, drawings, fakes, and digital art. However, there aren't as many digital artists as there are hand drawers and fake pic artists. With that, I wasn't sure if there would be enough entries to hold such a contest. I posted about this in MaxDam's original thread, but got no response from any would be participants. However, should you want to submit any digital art that isn't a fake to this contest, you may do so. If there is only one entry however, I cannot just award that submission the top prize automatically.

The guidelines remain the same, just add this when you submitting, "Contest: Digital", followed by whatever title you choose.

These guidelines don't sound very good. Mostly the no coloring and the topic.

I understand the no coloring to make it fair but I usually like coloring mine and I don't like others coloring them.

The real beef is the topic. It's very limiting for sure. I find the unique characters to be the least interesting art posted on this site. I see no logical reason to have a topic like this except to hype the new Mortal Kombat. Could we possibly have something different?

I'm not really sure how this theme can be considered limiting. Most Mortal Kombat fans usually think up their own characters at some point, and I always have found it interesting to see a glimpse of what is in the artist's mind. The original characters are always some of the more interesting art, at least in my view. The artist must use their own imagination, and have no base to work with, unlike when drawing characters that are actually in the games.

Anyhow, I didn't expect everyone to enjoy the theme, its a subject that attracts some, while frightening others away. I was aware of this when I selected the theme, however I still stand by it as a good decision and believe it will be an interesting competition.

Put meh down for the crown
Hmm, sounds cool. Count me in. I'll try to make some time to draw an original character.

Peace.

Questions:
Who do I send the fake pic when i'm done?
When posting the pictures is the hand drawing and fake pics going to be the same thread or you're going to make a new one?
Instead of 1 can it be 2 original characters for the fake pic contest?

good job, btw.

Well, we are going to use the fan art system for submitting. Read the guidelines on the first page for that. The only rules are that everything needs to be in JPG format, and less than 350KBs.

The voting for both contests will most likely take place in this thread. You'll vote for one drawing, and one fake.

As far as the original characters go, I would like there to be only one. However, you may create an edited sprite for an existing character. For instance, it could be "Your original character vs. Scorpion", and Scorpion may be designed however you think he should appear in MK6.

I do alot of stuff digitally use my tablet and stylus, and i'll probably want to do the drawing for this contest that way too. So while it's technically a "digital" piece, it's really a hand drawing. I really don't think it'll need to be in a separate "digital" catagory, but i'd like to know what you think.

Also, when asked earlier, you said that we could shade our pics, am i correct in assuming that this means hatching? Or can i "soildly" shade in a paint program?

I'm a bit confused as to the rules too. Is it that we're limited to using black and white only or greyscale? Are computers allowed? If so one could have grey by using chequered areas of black and white pixels. I guess the idea is to do a comic book style inked drawing by hand- right? If not i can probably colour in on the computer and just change it to greyscale/black/white dithered after- cheating?

Hmm, I see my no coloring clause is causing a bit of an issue for some. Well firstly, you may still use digital programs. The category "digital" would more apply to renders, or any sort of 3D art, in this contest. Basically, as long as it isn't three dimensional, it will be included I suppose.

Originally, I wanted everything to be black & white in the drawing portion of this contest. There are a few reasons behind that. One of course is to keep everyone on level ground. As far as what you are describing, dfgnsbsdgrt, that sounds alright. The original idea was for the entries to appear as B&W inked comics, as you said.
Well, although still fakes aren't really my thing, I'll give it a shot.

I'm in grin.

Alright, I have edited the guidelines concerning the no coloring clause. As you can see, hatching and inking are allowed. No full grey, as grey is a color.

Guess I'm in as well, if I can come up with a character...

A question though - would it be okay to submit a different(color/greyscale/whatever) version of the drawing if it's a separate submission? Or maybe showing a color study for the character design in its thread?
