Hey all.
People may or may not remember me, but bleh it doesn't really matter, I don't think I've actually made a post in about 1-2 years, and I certainly haven't completed an animation in that period.
However, in that period I was working on a few projects, none that really got finished, but I'm gonna show you all the ones that I got the most complete.
These were meant to be part of a project called "MK2 - Revisited" that ]{ombat also had a fair amount of influence on as well.
The (not so original) idea was that everybody from MK2 would be given a new fatality for me to animate, quite simply.
In that time though, for whatever reasons, I only completed four before "giving up" on the project, and I don't really have any intention of completing any of the projects (aside from one, which is near done) in my "off" period, so instead I've split the animations up and here they are.
They all have some considerable flaws, which may be pointed out (one of the animations was released early for a contest over a year ago, which is listed first).
1. Kitana - Fan Mangle
This animation I took from the project to use in an animation contest over a year ago (it didn't win), so this one isn't new.
2. Liu Kang - Dragonbreath
This one was an idea from ]{ombat quite a while ago. However, during this time, I'm sure many people have already used the idea (I've definately seen at least one), but here's my version nonetheless.
3. Sub-Zero - Icy Mist
This one has quite a few flaws with it - one obvious one in particular is the timer.
4. Shang Tsung - Flame
This one just didn't look as cool as I wanted it to when I conceptualized it, bit more effort and time probably would've prevented that, but still, over and done.
That's all for now I guess. I'm close to finishing that other project and then I can finally get onto some real new stuff
.
Currently studying 'Computer Animation' at university, so any new skills I pick up, will more than likely be tested
.
For now though, hope you enjoy.

Waddup Tim, nice to see you making some new anis :P
I love the concept for Sub's mist throw and shatter. The others are very fluid as well.

Wow, glad people enjoying these
.
Thanks for the positive comments.
As for speed, the ani's should run at a pretty decent speed somewhat similar to that of the game's original speed.
They run at 24fps, so depending on your comp, it may run a little slow, but as the person above me mentioned, it may help adjusting the quality (by right clicking on the animation, and hovering on quality).
Thanks again everyone

Cool stuff
I like the Sub Zero one the best.
Stuff I think could be better:
(Kitana's fatality)
1 = Reptiles hit animation after the uppercut is way too slow. Reminds me of an old helium balloon.
(Liu Kang's fire spit)
1 = The fire flying out of the dragon's mouth is moving too slow
2 = Jax's dizzy animation looks like it's missing a couple frames.
3 = The burning bones exploding are flying too slow
4 = The skull landing on the floor should make a sound
(Sub zero's freeze)
1 = The wind sound seems out of place. when he first blows the wind it's fine, but when Raiden flys through it, the sound doesn't fit.
Instead, you should hear a freezing sound, like cracking.
(Shangs flame fatality)
1 = The first time I watched it, I didn't get it.
He summoned the fire and it went away.
Then when he didn't do anything I was like ummmmmmm ok........
I think it would be better if the entire thing was faster and smoother.
Have the energy come from his torso, up through his arm and then have some fire souls fly out from his hand. They can fly around a bit, then kamacozy on the opponent.
Doesnt' shang do like a stretching pose after doing the explode fatality in MK2? The one where he goes in the opponent's ear.
You could use that instead of the lift sprite.
Then instead of the souls coming out of his hand, they could come out of his torso.
You used that flame sound too many times. The area when the 4 fireballs are flying should have used a different, longer fire sound effect.
Do you have a sound editing program? If so, you could make your own sound effects for the animations, for situations in which the real game sounds aren't quite what you need.

Omg, Timmy! ^^
'Tis been a long time, bro. Great to see you back.
I'd just like to mention that the little details in your animations (The perfect original sound effects, the moving backgrounds, ect...) seem to go un-noticed/ seem to be taken for granted. However, the quality in these would be much lower without them. Keep up the good work.

Quite right and I never remembered why I made it quite so slow either. Not only that though, with it being so slow it makes the path that Reptile takes look even more unsuited to the uppercut.

Again, agree with what you've said. I think I must have gone for fluency when I made these as everything does move quite slowly.
About the skull though, I just tried it in the game and the skull doesn't seem to make a sound when it lands though

Yeah, Shang's Flame didn't go as well for me as I'd have liked. It took too long and there was too long a silence (thus why there are so many flame sound effects there). You're right, they should fly around a little and be quite aggressive, and then dive at Kitana. I might try that one again a bit later.
No I don't have a sound editing program, so any sounds I use are ripped from the various games in some way or another.
Thanks for taking the time to do all that, appreciate it

You're right about the falling skull not making a sound in the game.
I just tried it...
It still looks wrong though, even if that's how it is in the game.
How is something going to fall from that height and not make a sound????
The MK team messed that one up.
You could download some sound editors from P2P programs.
Like Kazaa or bear share.
Bear share has more stuff imo.
That's where I get most of my programs.
Those P2P programs come with bugs though.
I wonder if they have free sound editors online for download.
The sound editors I use are Sound Forge and Acid

Cool, what kind of editing do they specialize in (or more appropriately, what kind of editing features do they offer that would benefit these animations)?
Thanks for the help
Last post from me in this thread, then it can die
Thanks again for all the comments/help ppl

Superb animations like always , Tim. They're never choppy. And the sound is always good too. I really like the Sub-Zero one. Very clean. Especially how the screen shaked.
(Btw, I'm still working on the thing. You should know what I'm talking about. )

Sound forge and Acid are advanced sound editing programs.
Like a movie making program.
You can put sound clips on a number of sound layers.
You can change the pitch, the speed, give it special effects like an echo.
You can also make loops and extend sounds by editing them correctly.
You just find the spot in the sound clip that loops cut it. Then paste as many loops as you want.
Then you can record your own sounds and edit them however you want.
All that and more.

Hey,
I know I'm a bit late on my comments (that's due to the hurricane), but let me start by saying, wow, these animations are all incredible, so if my comments seem overly negative please don't take it the wrong way, it's just that I have an eye for detail and would like to comment on the couple things that I'd like to see changed even though the animations are mostly perfect. Having said that....
Anyway, that's about it, I really enjoyed your animations as always!
That's about it

Having said that....
- In Liu Kang's Dragon Breath fatality, while it's loading, for a split second the title of the animation changes to "MK2 Outtakes" and then changes back. Like it flickers for just a second. You should probably change that.
- I'd still prefer the dragon to be green rather than golden
- The wins text would ALWAYS be better if ripped directly from the game rather than using the MKII font
- There's actually a 0 in my name, not the letter o. ]{0MBAT. (Indicidentally, this is why I always write my name in all caps.)
- There's actually some minor flaws in your FATALTY letters. I ripped a better one that can be found here.
- I really like how you have the shadows during normal game play, and then they disappear when it gets dark, just like in the game. However, why not go one step better then the game, and have the shadows fade out as the background fades to dark? For an example of this in action, check out one of my animations, Cyrax's Net Fatality
- Wow, all the those custom Sub-Zero sprites must have taken like weeks to do. He's unmasked during his whole throw. Seriously, how long did that take you? That's fucking incredible!
- Whenever you use the Wasteland, I'd animate it. I've ripped an animation version of that background that's on MKW that should be helpful.
- The Shadow Priest floating in the Tower should be slowed down a bit, he doesn't go up and down so fast (though the speed at which his robes are flapping is fine). He also slows down near the top and bottom of his floating, so he's not at one consistent speed the entire time. Study the flight pattens some time, if you can emulate that in Flash, it would be pretty damn cool!
- I like your custom clouds for the Tower as well, but I can get you an arcade-perfect set.
Anyway, that's about it, I really enjoyed your animations as always!

Not at all, glad you took the time

Lol, you know, there's no excuse for me leaving it in there really. I guess I was just so sick of staring at it for so long I uploaded it to the net about 5 times, then I was so annoyed with it I couldn't be bothered to change it, heh. I will though, because it bugs me, and it's glaringly obvious.
I'd still prefer the dragon to be green rather than golden
I kinda see why too, the gold one looks a bit **odd**.
The wins text would ALWAYS be better if ripped directly from the game rather than using the MKII font
Ya know, I'm pretty sure that that particular text is from the game. Because I remember taking the wins from this and combining it with the Chameleon one (thus the reason the wins on the chameleon one looks better). Not sure though, but you're right, they will be directly from the game in future.
There's actually a 0 in my name, not the letter o. ]{0MBAT. (Indicidentally, this is why I always write my name in all caps.)
This is by far the most important one because I thought it was an "o" all along, lol. Will get right on that one
There's actually some minor flaws in your FATALTY letters.
Yeah, I think there's a frame missing from them or something. Thanks much for the new one. I will also add the blood drops too in future.
I really like how you have the shadows during normal game play, and then they disappear when it gets dark, just like in the game. However, why not go one step better then the game, and have the shadows fade out as the background fades to dark? For an example of this in action, check out one of my animations, Cyrax's Net Fatality
Nice! I like the way it kinda averts your eyes, ya know, distracts you from seeing the shadows have actually gone. Will be doing that thanks
Wow, all the those custom Sub-Zero sprites must have taken like weeks to do. He's unmasked during his whole throw. Seriously, how long did that take you? That's fucking incredible!
Lol, thanks, but it took me about 10 minutes to do them all, if not less, heh. Seriously, grabbed a few MK3 Subby sprites from MKW that had his head in different positions, gathered the sprites I ripped and just replaced the heads with ones in good positions (and rotated a few). Piece of cake
Whenever you use the Wasteland, I'd animate it. I've ripped an animation version of that background that's on MKW that should be helpful.
Thanks for the advice. The Wasteland was one I never tried to get an animated version of because I thought it was a bastard to do (bit too fiddly in the background). Again, future ones, proper backgrounds.
The Shadow Priest floating in the Tower should be slowed down a bit, he doesn't go up and down so fast (though the speed at which his robes are flapping is fine). He also slows down near the top and bottom of his floating, so he's not at one consistent speed the entire time. Study the flight pattens some time, if you can emulate that in Flash, it would be pretty damn cool!
I shall indeed try, shouldn't be too hard, anything for authenticism (is that a word?)
I like your custom clouds for the Tower as well, but I can get you an arcade-perfect set.
*cough* windows 95 wallpaper *cough*... Heh, that would be awesome
Thanks for taking the time, I love it when people go into such detail (thus the reason my posts are often long and dull, heh).
Thanks again
