It says torch, specifically old school, not blaze, and thats what he drew.

It is a product of Hero Machine. The guy can't even properly cut and paste the MK logo onto a solid black background, so I doubt that he's capable of hand-drawing anything even half as adequate as these amateurish Hero Machine designs. It looks like he took a box of crayons filled with nothing but fall colors and haplessly scribbled between the lines until this putrid pile of human-shaped shit came to be.

I absolutely used HeroMachine. It's a neat little tool to play around with that's great for expressing concepts. Here, I took that miniature sprite of Torch in the Pit II background and give it life. Part of the charm was keeping the aesthetic of the old school look, however unoriginal it may so be.

Now, I wouldn't really submit artwork made from HeroMachine as it isn't really YOUR artwork. You've put together some pre-made models to make a design for you. HeroMachine is indeed a neat little toy, but I would never claim the artwork as my own by submitting it in my name.

HeroMachine is good for when you aren't good at drawing, but wish to show a simple comicbook hero design of a character. And that is what you have done here, as shown, but... I don't find it fitting to submit as fanart in your own name. However, that is just my opinion on the matter.

Other than that... as said above... It's just Liu Kang on fire. Sorry, but it is not really all that impressive or original. None the less, a cute tribute to the original Torch character of MK2's Pit stage.

You bring up some good points here. Perhaps I can prefix the titles of this series with "Hero Machine:" Tremor/Torch/etc Concept. I could also add it in the author comments.

You could also argue that doing this is the same as constructing a fake. Both are using premade resources to express a concept.

I know what everyone means by it just being a Liu Kang on fire... but that's exactly what Blaze (or Torch) was back in Mortal Kombat 2. One could argue that you should have done SOMETHING different with him (besides the flames) but I won't give you too much heat for it.

You should definitely clarify that it's a Heromachine thing from now on, and you best make it in the title. If people are looking for hand-drawn or made-from-scratch work, I can see how they might get annoyed if they just see a Heromachine character. The difference between this and a fake is that a fake (at least a fake worth looking at) has edited and customized character sprites and backgrounds that are unique to that artist. Also, fakes tend to acknowledge that they're fakes in the title (which, as I said, is something you should do with Hermochine).

But to be honest, you should really start drawing. If you're not good, practice; see what people look like, get proportions and shading down, and just draw your ideas instead of relying on Heromachine to have what you're looking for. It'll take time, but your submissions will be more unique and the possibilities will be pretty much endless.

Just because not everyone is using Hero Machine is no reason to attack people. Ultimateryu has always been looked down upon because he doesn't do 2d sprite art, like most of us. Everyone has different styles, and ideas they try.

I wish I had the time to read people's text fanfics. I don't usually comment on hand drawn stuff either, because some people's crappy drawings make my eyes hurt. I'm not gonna be mean, and tell them that. I just don't comment. If a kid doodles a bunch of stuff, are they going to understand a critique? I don't want to come off as an ass, just for pointing out a few flaws. Some people can't take critiques well.

Wrong AGAIN Tetra. We look down on UltimateRyu because he insults (not just critiques) people who do better sprite editing work and custom special effects when all he does is resize renders/screen shots, cut and pastes them, and then smears around a bunch of pre-rendered tubes/effects from an art program. He used to be highly respected until he became highly lazy and arrogant for no good reason. Then to make up for it he trolls around here starting arguments for the fuck of it and giving biased opinions. I have no problem telling UR one of his older, more creative fakes are good. Now ask him to do the same for me or Veno (which no longer counts seeing as how I am now calling him out for it).

Two other colleagues of mine and I actually tracked down some (respectable; meaning they actually had talent or real potential) fake artists in other forums who left this community and have admitted UR is the reason they left and I don't blame them. It's hilarious to even believe that it was me or VenoMark who caused so many to leave considering we both were banned for a long time and while we were gone, this forum was dying by the day. There was no one to put pompous pricks in their place anymore.

If what we do and how we do it is so wrong, then explain why and how saizero who made some of the shittiest fakes is now rising to the top at an exponential rate. Because of pure grade-A assholes, I have to try and beg promising newcomers like goobiedoob and acidic-saurian to come back. NOT LIKE THEY'LL LOG IN ANYMORE TO SEE THE PM.

I am busy working on my fake entry and that's taking all my free time (as if I even had that much). So tutorials are out of the question plus my upcoming family "issues" will prevent future participation in fake making.

SO it's up to you guys for this one. I am more than happy to post all my sprite progression pictures. Typing up a pretty step by step tutorial is out of the question.

Thanks for filling in the other side of the issue, I don't always see eveything. I just see random bickering back & forth. There was a time when everyone made decent fakes n stuff. I remember a few of Veno's fakes, n people mentioning his old stuff... even back then. I always wondered why he wasn't around anymore.

I still have time to improve my FPK entry, I took some lazy steps, and forgot a couple details, but I don't care. Perfection is unattainable, and I don't wanna feel like I'm nagging Veno with updates.

I want to get back in the game, but I'm weary of posting images incase they get shrunk.

You and I seem to have very different tastes.

UltimateRyu, if you got one thing out of this, let it be to put "Hero Machine" in the title if that's what you used to make the thing.

Actually, about 30 minutes after my last reply, I sent a private message to UltimateRyu suggesting that we set aside our differences and let bygones be bygones.

I completely understand how it could be a bit off-putting when you open virtually every thread and see that UltimateRyu and I are at each other's throats. I did my best to ignore him, but I suppose that, at times, my testosterone would get the better of me and I would end up adding more fuel to the fire.

As long as he abides by our agreement and refrains from provoking me, I'll continue to meet the terms of our truce and abstain from unleashing my staple ego-blistering insults. I can't predict the future, but given that it seems that he's genuinely interested in shelving this petty feud, I don't foresee this senseless quarrel recurring anytime soon.



Trust me when I say that I won't be the least bit aggravated if you repeatedly send me updates as you continue to improve upon your entry. The deadline isn't for another six days, so make as many adjustments as you deem necessary.

Well, it's the same reason why I enjoy watching wrestling matches from time to time...
