I edited everything by hand except for the background. I just added the rain, mist, and watter droplets on top of the original. I'm pretty happy with it.

That's awesome. I agree with Acj on the spear, and I also love the Shang Tsung sprite edit. Nice job with the rain, too.

Hmm, I like the spear and Shang doesn't look bad. Other than that the background is a little plain. I would like to see a better background.

Thanks everybody
What would you suggest for the background?
I can come up with something, but do you have anything in mind?
I didn't want to change the background, I just wanted to focus on the characters themselves.
Actually, I wasn't even going to do a full fake at first. I was just messing around with the colors, and I just couldn't stop once I started.
So I came up with everything on the spot.
The scorpion sprite is a combination of 2 teleporting frames, and The open hand is from Reptile in MK2.
Shang tsung is a combination of Shang's head from MK2 and the MK3 Kung lao.
It took a while to make Shang.
But I like how he came out. I also like the pony tail I gave him that's wrapped around his neck.
When I was almost done with it I thought to my self. " It would be cool if there was a 2D MK made with custom characters like the Shang I made." I've seen some really cool looking sprites. I'd be awesome to play with some of those characters.
It would be cool too if they used 3D and transparent effects like Rain, mist, motion blur and more special FX like the skull flying around my Shang.

Man I dont know where to begin beacause this is one sexy ass pic. Ok, someone said that the background was kinda plain, I don't agree at all(although the new background u made is cool as hell too). The temple and mountains are very nicel incorporated into the pic. I like how you used MK1 scorpion(my favorite version of scorpy). I also love how u basically change the direction of the spear, instead of going straight forward, it goes in a much cooler fashion. This form of Shang is the best I've seen in ever since MK2. I love the Mongolian look you gave him. Also very nice detail on the skull, man if only I had ur skills. Oh and we can't forget about the awesome shadows of both characters and the spear...just sexy as hell. And finally the rain is just utter perfection. It is like the cherry on top to this pic...very nicely done and implemented. So I gives ya 5/5 dragons for stimulating picture.

I was going to put the soulnado coming from the tempal in the background, but then it didn't look right.
There was too much stuff on the Right side of the screen, so I stuck with the body pit area instead.
It still makes sense though for it to be there.
At first I was thinking of putting a real tornado in the pit area, with bodies, and debris flying around. But then I thought , "Hey this is a perfect spot for a soulnado" So that's what I did.

VERY nice job. The editing is flawless. That's the best Tsung sprite i ever seen. Nice touch on the skull effect. Good job. The spear fucking owns although I don't like how you used a MK1 Scorpion sprite for some reason. You should of used a MKII sprite since that's a MKII stage and lifebars and do the same editing as the MK1 Sprite onto the MKII sprite. Good job. 10/10. Looking forawrd to your next fake pic.

Thanks again
I thought about putting the MK2 scorpion, but then I wanted an older look to the pic. More old school, so I went with the MK1 version.
I don't see how an MK1 character wouldn't fit in an MK2 stage though.
It's the same thing ain't it?
The Shang sprite took a few hours to make. I did like 50% of it with The clone tool, and airbrush.
All the black on him was painted by hand, and the Chest Had to be repainted, with a combination of the clone stamp, air brush, and burn tool.
Also the bald head was painted by hand and stamp, like the chest.
The spear's rope was totally painted by hand, and the spear head is a real spear head that I edited to fit the scene.
Hmmmmm, maybe I could do a tutorial on it.

Its really cool that you hand painted the spear. Do you use a tablet? If not I would find it nearly impossible to get the curve or bend look that good.
