The story seems boring, the characters don't look cool. I just like the original and the lore of the original. I don't really see the point of making a "realistic" version of Mortal Kombat.

Don't worry, you're not alone. There've been several people who don't see the appeal in doing MK as some sort of gritty, urban crime drama and losing the Asian mythology and magical powers.

I just don't get it. It's not Mortal Kombat. It's like...Seven.

Yeah. Even know Seven was a good movie...that is not what Mortal Kombat should turn into,

I don't like it either, I think it spits in the face of the source material. Hopefully the web series is way different then the Rebirth short film. As much as I like Christopher Nolan's Batman series, not all franchises have to be just like it. It simply doesn't work for Mortal Kombat, especially when MK has things like magic, interdimensional travel and Gods.

Look, now Baraka has grown hair and beard! Shit, the time does fly...

MK Rebirth? You mean the Mortal Kombat movie with incompetent doctor as Baraka, Mr.Freeze-like Sub Zero, and Enrique Iglesias hurling bottles of eau de toilette as Johnny Cage?

Raiden might be the most impaired one, though. An Earth-protecting deity from the games is here a railway bum? Just spare me...

I actually enjoyed the trailer and am interested in what's to come. I love the serious, realistic presentation.

lol, you act like it's going to kill off the series. Don't completely judge it just yet... we've only seen pictures and heard concepts of the story.

Not really understanding the hatred this thing has. So it's a different Mortal Kombat, so what! I liked it, I liked what I saw from the pictures and the trailer.

I don't think the web series will be the same but the Rebirth trailer was fucking awful. I hate the dark, grisly, crime drama, realistic, toture porn aspects of it. It was just gross, and not fun at all. Its the kind of shit that hardcore fans of Se7en and Saw would like Mk to be. IMO. Not one character I liked for the better. And the story made no god damn sense, even for MK standards.

That is why I think they should do a JJ Abrams style reboot. The characters and set are all modernized but the old iconic overall impression clearly there. And when or we going to get powers in these damn movies? I know they where sprinkled here and there, but it wasn't the same. I want fireballs and ice balls as much as hand to hand combat. Also show the bruatality of it. These characters can get shot and stabbed and still continue to fight. Why not bring that to the big screen.

Overall I want something in the fashion of this

Haha its funny because im a big fan of Se7en and Saw. But yeah if I wanted something like that I would go watch those movies. MK should not be that.

For the record, Rebirth was just a pitch the director made to WB, the only thing that should be carrying over to the web series is his directing style, with the whole brutal/gory violence, the series has been stated as being more close to the games.
On it's own, I much liked Rebirth just for the sheer fact it was brutal and gory as fuck, and I want that to carry over.

I viewed it knowing it would be very different, and I did enjoy it.
I liked the character portrayals, I could believe Michael Jai White's Jax is a high ranking offical. The seriousness played well for a serious character, in fact, this is my favorite Jax including all the game/movie portrayals.
As well as it's interesting to see Scorpion human unmasked and chatting. I liked the more collective acting Scorpion shown.

Okay, I probably meant as far as other media versions of MK go, this was downright brutal and gory as MK should be. Not some power rangers knockoff. *shudders*

Mate I have already created a petition and I seem to have gained alot of negative feedback. I agree with you 100%, but keep in mind us MK fans are hungry for something live action (no matter how much it will make new comers to MK laugh at us, because they don't get why we play a game with a killer who was a surgeon, while not learning that Baraka is a mutant killing machine).
This Film/Show will only make us look silly and I look forward to a couple of years from now when we look back and think "I can't believe we were all looking forward to this".
Sign the petition and let's try for a desent sequal to the films or except it will not happen and concentrate on the games.
Afterall the only person who is truely happy is Ed Boon who is laughing all the way to the bank, no matter what he has done to his co-creation.

Didn't Ed Boon himself say that he thought the take on MK was a little weird or something?

I hated it as well, and I'm glad to see that other people did too. Thought with the picture of Scorpion that has been released, it looks as if they aren't going in the crime-drama direction. Which I am very thankful for.

I also didn't like MK rebirth. It didn't feel like Mortal Kombat to me. It felt more like Twisted Metal. Plus I didn't like the way it changed the characters stories.

There are definitely a number of people who don't like MK: Rebirth, but I actually enjoyed it. Yeah, it was radically different than what we've seen, and that's part of the appeal. Does this mean that I want Baraka to be a surgeon gone mad? No. However, you have to admit that in that short, Baraka has more character depth than he's had in all of his game appearances combined. Do I want Sub-Zero to be a cyborg like Mr. Freeze? Hell no.

However, I do like the dark, gritty style to it, even if it's set in a more urban setting. I felt like I could take Scorpion, Jax, and Sonya seriously unlike their game counterparts. Kevin Tancharoen actually wanted to incorporate the special moves and mysticism if he were to do a full-length movie. It's just that the short was on a short budget. He wants to do the magical, mystical stuff in a tasteful way instead of going over-the-top. You can get away with that stuff in the games, but for a live-action movie, it would be ridiculous.

The thing is, MK has had fantasy elements from the very beginning, so that stuff is a staple to the series. I wouldn't want that to change. However, it's not bad to have a more realistic base, especially if you're starting the story off in MK1's timeline.

In some ways, I actually look forward to the mini-series more than the upcoming game, because the story of the mini-series will likely be a lot better, especially with Tancharoen's direction.
