Animation or CGI Movie???
Animation or CGI Movie???
I'm a huge MK fan, as is everyone else on this site, and I was thinking how awesome it would be if they made an MK animation movie. All of the MK trailers with new graphics and details look badass, so why not make the movie with the same style graphics and keep it brutal and bloody just like the trailers but put it in a movie with all the characters and have a very cool story from start to finish. The Mk team is now paired up with Warner Brothers, who have put out some rather awesome superhero movies in the last few years, so why not make a full length MK movie with the same CGI ,not cartoony, animation as the trailers. I for one would love to see it happen and I'm pretty sure everyone else would also. Any opinions???

that's actually a pretty good idea, as long as it doesn't end up as aweful as the other movies

Have Sonya never utter the phrase "Kombat Time" and I'm game for another go with animated MK.

I think an animated movie would suffer from some of the same problems the live action ones did, in that an hour and a half or so (actually, all WB's direct to DVD superhero films are restricted to a 70 minutes running time, so that's even worse) isn't enough time to really cover all the events of an MK game. You end up skipping stuff and doing a poor job introducing important characters.
A series would be better. You can spend the whole 13 episode season on one game and like each episode could adequately cover a different character and/or you could show every important fight of the whole tournament.

I'm suprised that i am the only one who owned the pre animated movie of the first movie. It was kinda cgi, but animated in some most of the scenes.

Under The Red Hood proved that with proper pacing, a 75 minute run time can work. What they would have to do is assume the audience for the film is already familiar with the universe and tell a stand alone story. It can be done.

Unfortunately, most of us own that. It just doesn't exist.

I see, yes it would of been good if it didn't exsist. Its like the uncle you wish you didn't had lol.
Anyway, i love the old tnt Mortal kombat conquest series. Man that series was awesome. To bad they never completed though.

I don't believe assuming the audience is already familiar with the universe works for Mortal Kombat. That's one of the worst mistakes of Annihilation, using characters without introducing them. Plus, too many characters have never gotten fleshed out properly in the games. The only reason to even do an animated movie is to give the characters' personalities and backstories more focus than they get in the games, so what does skipping chunks of important story and just making a painfully brief "best of" reel accomplish?
The only game adaptation I could see working at a runtime that short is Mythologies since it has so few characters to focus on. Actually, come to think of it, that might be really badass.
But you could never do it for one of the main games, because...well take MK1 for instance, you can't skip the main cast's backstories and them getting on the boat. For MK1 and 2 you gotta show all the major fights of the tournament bracket. For MK3, 4, DA, or Deception you've got a cast of 30 characters to deal with...
It's just not practical.

It is not necessary to cover everything and every character in an animated movie. With the amount of detail in the MK story you would need a trilogy of 90 minutes each, at least. But again, this is not necessary. At all.
Just pick a handful of characters that have a major role in the current game's plot (e.g. Shao Kahn, Raiden, Scorpion, Sub, Mileena, Shang and Kitana) and make the animated movie about these characters, or in short; those who play a key role in the events of MK9. The same thing was done by Capcom for the SFIV animated movie which only focused on Ryu, Ken, Seth, Guile, Cammy and Chun Li.
An animated movie does not need to contain all details or have a conclusive ending. For example, they can make an animated movie that only covers the core plot of the game itself (sort of an introduction) and have an open ending (that is to be decided by the events in the game itself).
Tons of options.
I have always been in favour of this.

It would look better cgi and much cooler. Under the red hood was pretty good but yea the episodes would be better you just cant explain everything in a movie.

I have to say, I think western animation is vastly superior to anime from an objective standpoint. Anime is made very cheaply and very quick.
For example, even South Park manages to sync the characters' lips to their voices. Most anime I've seen doesn't.
This isn't a blow at anime by any means; I love me some Studio Ghibli.
Blah blah blah, MK is made in America anyway, so I think a western MK animation would be excellent.
