Notice how much Mortal Kombat content has been released in April over the years and especially since WB acquired media rights? Also note the relationship between games and media being released close together as well.

Don't be fooled by the order - the Songs Inspired by the Warriors CD was a cross-promotional tie-in to the game, so we already knew the game was coming. This is very similar to the first game in 1992 which featured a slew of tie-ins, from music albums to comic books. I didn't look into any of the other collectibles released, like statues and Funko POPs.
