Streamy Award Winning Legacy Choreographer Discusses MK Movie

In an interview with Film Combat Syndicate; Streamy Award winning choreographer Larnell Stovall has discussed his hopes for the ill fated Mortal Kombat feature film.

I am not sure what the chances are for an MK feature film. BUT, the version K.T. was going to move ahead with would have been insane!!! Crazy fatalities and surprise characters with a hard R-rating for sure! Too bad things did not move forward on it, though I am hearing there will be a third season Mortal Kombat Legacy. I truly hope Warner Bros and New Line make it happen, whether I am involved or not. I simply just want to see these characters on the big screen. They deserve it!!

Stovall partnered with director Kevin Tancharoen for his 2010 viral video: Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. The reel won both men jobs on subsequent official live-action webseries: Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

Tancharoen was consistently linked to a major movie release off the back of the hugely successful webseries, teasing the script himself in 2012. Rumored plot details and casting presumptions failed to deliver progress on a feature film. The director officially announced his departure from the movie late in 2013.

The theatrical future of Mortal Kombat remains uncertain, but a third series of Legacy appears to be in the pipeline. Legacy II debuts on Blu-Ray & DVD later this month [full story]. Find and discuss more stories on the Media & Merchandise forum.

Hope the eventual movie takes advantage of all the story elements and lore within the series, and doesn't just become a simple gore-fest with one-dimensional characters.

If by insane he meant god-awful, that would've been a safe bet.

I really see no need for an MK film at this point. It wouldn't add anything that the first film and MK9 didn't achieve on their own.

It has been a while since I posted here.

Anyway, if the movie would follow the base storyline of the game itself then I'd be interested. I didn't much care for Rebirth's depiction on how Baraka was some surgeon that implanted blades in his arms. Also Scorpion being in jail? A dead ninja or a dead guy could escape from jail more than likely. Reptile is a man with a skin condition? The plot twists of Rebirth kust frightened me away from a movie of MK like this.

My vision would make the movie similar to how Enter The Dragon was shot where the characters' backstory would be explained in flashbacks while they are heading to Tsung's Island. I even took a stab of writing a script for this since I had classes in college on this and it is hard to get a decent story out of this franchise.

I would love to see a new MK movie, but it's simply not necessary at this point in time.

Yeah, I would love an MK movie too. But, KT wouldn't be my choice. I like to watch his MK stuff, but he completely destroys many characters; I.e. Baraka.

With such approach there is no need for anything new at all, since everything which could have been said and done was already said and done.

Personally I would have been OK with a new MK movie set into Rebirth universe. Give'em more money and good choreographer and we golden. MK is not Shakespear so simple plot would be enough.

And before somebody says, that MK movie deserved to be an epic tale like Lord of the Rings, I'd say that I am agree, but chances to receive such a thing are pretty much zero.

I honestly feel the best thing that can happen is a 10-12 hour season on a premium cable network. MK would be perfect for something like that. A fight every episode with story progression? It's almost too good a fit.
