Finally! read this: "The spanish magazine HOBBY CONSOLAS (no 180) gives us a six-page article about Mortal Kombat Armageddon, which includes an interview to Ed Boon. A poster of Rayden is also available inside this magazine.
In the article, Boon tells us what the plot of the game will be:
"It's the final battle. Every fighter from Outworld and Earthrealm are summoned to reach the top of the pyramid and be the best warrior."
He says this game has exceeded the capacity of PS2 and X-BoX.
By the way, during the interview, Boon assured that he has the final script for the third MK movie. Let's hope it's really on the way

Your title was a little too misleading so I changed it accordingly, to make it more appropriate. - krsx66

So is it going to be based around the story of Mortal Kombat Mythologies Sub Zero? That is all I heard about the film so far.

That rumor was never confirmed, and therefore possibly false. Over the years, they have read tons of scripts for this movie (Robin Shou apparently said that the one with SZ as the main character was bad, so I don't think they would choose that one), and what Boon said is that they finally found the one. Now that they have a script, pre-production will kick in: hire staff members, casting, build several sets....
Once that is complete (takes a few months) the filming will begin, probably early next year.

Wow this is awesome news.I am not surprised there is no update at mortalkombat.com yet considering they hardly update that site like every other 4 years lol.But all I have to say is "WOW".I honestly have no movies to really look forward to this year and other then Resident Evil 3 and Spiderman 3 And Back to the future 4 of 07 and now theres MK3,thats pretty much all i am looking forward to next year.
If I can guess, there will be a new MK game around the same time the new movie gets released.

While not new news, it's still nice to hear that they're making some advances.
But, still, if they want to "redeem" themselves after MK:Annihilation, they need to reinvent the wheel here. How many great martial art films have come since the original Mortal Kombat? The Matrix raised the bar, along with great asian cinema like Ong-Bak, Hero, etc.
They would have to, like Batman Begins, change their atmosphere and adapt, more serious, more realistic.

By this, I mean that they are no longer stuck working on the script. Now they have one and they are working on other things:
They need to secure financing for the film.
They need storyboards.
They need to draw up a budget plan.
They need a cast
They need a director.
They need to design and build several sets.
They need to scout some locations.
They need to hire creative and technical crews.
They have to buy or rent equipment.
They need to design and create costumes and props.
They need to choreograph the action scenes.
They have to acquire insurance and permits for every aspect of the production.
They have to make up a shooting schedule.
That's a lot of work to do and they have finally started.

About Me
They were crying when their sons left. God is wearing black. He has come so far to find no hope, he's never coming back. They were crying when their sons left, all young men must go, he has come so far to find the truth he is never going home...

Well, I hope this is true. If it is, thank you so much for the findings of this, and I am really glad that they are finally starting to get into pre-production, in this movie. I am okay either way if it is about Sub-Zero, or about the movie that is supposed to be taking place after the first movie, or second movie.

After 9 years of NOTHING, I'm glad to know something is finally being done and that pre-production has finally started.

Linden Ashby and Cristopher Lambert are now hired yet(confirmed),therefore a movie inspired only on Sub Zero have no sense.
Don't worry about the third movie, because Threshold don't believe n Mk as a great way to make money...therefore:
1)will be a low budget movie;
2)great possibilities that this will be worst than Annhiliation;
3)My only preoccupation is :who will be the fighting scene director?

Indeed, this smells like a rumor that got too far. Anyone could realize that a script with Sub Zero as the main hero is a ticking bomb worse than MK Annihilation.

WHAT! Where the hell did you hear that? If Threshold didn't believe in MK as a great way to make money, Kasanoff wouldn't have sued New Line Cinema for the past 8 years to get back the rights over the franchise. After all, New Line Cinema was responsible for Annihilation, their executives re-wrote the script (formerly called Mortal Kombat: Apocalypse) in order to get as much money as they could, with as many characters and fight scenes as possible.

So was the first one, and it was damn good.

Don't worry, I don't think that's possible even if the producers go out of their way to make this movie as bad as possible.

Whoever coreographed the fights in the second movie should be torched alive, so I don't think they'll be re-hiring him.
I think they still have a chance to redeem themselves for that horrible sequel. After all, check Mission Impossible III: third parts always revindicate crappy sequels.

Okay you think so, i have another idea...i respect your opinion, but i want to tell you one thing about Kasanoff:(maybe you know yet) but he had work on Conquest and Annhiliation and in the first he had a great work in the second he sucks just like al the cast.I don't think that Threshold believe in Mk as a good way to make money, don't care how much time they work on it or how much time they had brought the licenses,Threshold will never spend a $ more than normal and never Hire a high budget actors cast or special effect of good quality, therefore don't ask for a masterpiece, you'll never have.

The executive producers at New Line Cinema who approved the script are at fault for MKA's lackluster performance. The filmmakers (including the writers, producers, and director) were following directions from the studio executives on how to make this movie. They were not given complete artistic freedom as they were for the first MK movie. Allow me to explain.
Back in 1991/1992 when Larry Kasanoff was working on Terminator 2, he was involved in meetings with Midway on creating T2 videogames. While there, he looked into their game library to see if they had any titles that could make good movies. They just so happened to be finishing up on their latest game, Mortal Kombat. Larry loved the premise of the game and knew it could be a great film, so he bought the movie rights to the franchise. He then started his own company, Threshold Entertainment, and MK was their first project. New Line Cinema signed on to distribute the film, but had no real knowledge of the goldmine they were sitting on. So, they allowed Larry and Paul Anderson to do whatever they wanted. MK became a huge success, and the execs at New Line realized the potential the series had. Thus, they quickly put the sequel into motion.
This time, however, they forced Larry and John Leonetti to follow specific directions when making MKA. The crew at Threshold has said time and time again that MKA was not the movie they tried to make, it was the movie New Line forced them to make. After that fiasco, Threshold once again secured the movie rights, and severed ties with New Line. Having no intention of working with New Line again, Larry and Threshold have assured the fans that MKD will be the sequel we deserve, for they are once again in creative control over the franchise.
The fact that Threshold has total control over MKD should put most fears to rest. They created a spectacular film with MK1. MKA suffered because of the execs at New Line. With them out of the picture, MKD should have no trouble surpassing MKA.

Thank you about all information many of them i don't know, but the point is another:are SO SURE that DEVASTATION will be a good movie?
If you're sure i'm glad, but don't overstimate the potential of the movie because,if wil be a shit of movie you may be disappointed just like Annhiliation.
A lot of people believed that Annhiliation should be a great movie, but after the payment of the ticket at Cinema they...were at one step to cry.
I just want that the people don't be disappointed by the movie and don't have illusions or other things about the movie, even on Annhiliation everybody(almost) knew about Threshold bids on the cast, but how you surely know a producer can refuse to work on a movie if the production line constrict him to make a crap movie, and Kasanoff did not, therefore the fault is of EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WORKED ON ANNHILIATION!

Actually, no. New Line Cinema signed a 3-picture deal with Threshold as the distributor of the franchise, so they didn't have a choice, they were forced to do it and they HAD to do it.
That's also why they were sued: since the third movie hadn't been filmed, the contract was still on and Kasanoff's hands were tied until he severed ties with New Line Cinema, in which he suceeded not too long ago.
0
Kasanoff then is very unlucky, however this is not a good new, don't you think?
Will be the third movie a good production?
Will be the third movie a good production?

Since New Line Cinema (responsible for the MK Annihilation disaster) is no longer involved, yes. I think this movie has the chance of being a great production.

I'll wait for Devastation with anxiety
