Do we really want the entire original cast back for MK3?
First off, I will state that Robin Shou, Linden Ashby, and, if Shang Tsung is in the third movie, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa should all return. I like Christopher Lambert, but not as Raiden. His acting is fine(I guess), but Raiden needs to be able to fight. I don't see Lambert pulling off any believable martial arts scenes(this is in no way meant as a plug for Remar to come back ~shudder~ He didn't do his own fighting anyway. Ray Park did), and that brings me to Bridgette Wilson. Her fight scenes in the first movie were just plain awful and her acting was even worse. It was obvious she wasn't hired on for her fighting abilities or her ability to be choreographed in a good action scene. Sure, she's hot, but there are a million hot actresses. At least one(and I'm guessing more like dozens) could portray the character in a more effective manner.
It seems that a lot of people are so disgusted by the second movie(and rightfully so) that they are blinded as to what the first movie was really like.
I liked the first movie. I own it, and have watched it many times. However, I would never make the mistake of saying it was a good movie. Even for its genre, it was pretty bad. I enjoy it for the moments in which the movie achieves its goal of MKish chop socky greatness. I still get a little shiver when I hear Shao Kahn(or was it MK1 Shang Tsung?) say, "Reptile," and then watch the statue morph into Reptile. There were other great moments in the movie such as Scorpion vs Cage, the interaction between Johnny and Liu, and the Raiden/Tsung dialogues to name a few. Kang vs Tsung should have been great as well; however, it was ruined by the crap about facing the three challenges and Liu and Tsung's sometimes good and sometimes shit-poor dialogue. Kitana's in her role as "Obi-wan Kenobi with boobs," was extremely lame as well.
These are the types of things that should be avoided in the next movie. I understand that the mystical side of MK that needs to be represented, but I hope they put a little more thought and effort into it than, "In your next battle, use the element that brings life..."

Sorry, I don't have alot of time so I didn't read your full post, I just saw the Lambert comment.
Don't worry man, Lambert has done so much martial arts and action. He just didn't get the chance to show it off in Mortal Kombat. I'm sure he'd put on great fighting scenes.

Personally I think Lambert was great in that role, and Robin Shou should also return. Other than that, i think there are far better people they could cast in pretty much all the roles. I'd really like to see Jet Li in there, maybe as one of the ninjas? EDIT: I completely forgot about Tagawa (sp?). He was very good as tsung and i would like to see him back if the role is still there.
yes, bring them back, and Francois Petit (Sub-Zero in Annihilation) also.
Why? becouse:
François Petit is a world class martial artist who holds the title of Kai Den-Shihan, the highest title of Master in Jujitsu in the world. He also holds a 7th degree black belt in Ninjitsu, a 7th degree black belt in Karate Do, and a 3rd degree Black Belt in Judo.
But please keep the Sub-Zero mask on!

Petit was Sub Zero in the first MK movie, Keith Cooke was Subby in MKA (Cooke also played Reptile in MK1
On topic, from MK1 I think Lambert, Shou, Ashby, Talisa Soto and the ninjas should reprise their roles. Cary Tagawa would be great if he came back, but Shang should be dead, and even if he isn't - for some reason I don't think he will return to play him
I'd like Lynn Williams to return as Jax, he was pretty funny in MKA, no one else should return from that (poor excuse of a) movie though...
I'd love to see Jet Li as Kung Lao - Lao has nevere made an appearance in either movie yet, and what better actor/martial artist to play him eh?
Trogdor, u mentioned the crap about facing the 3 challenges in MK1. I think Shang should have morphed into the Great Kung Lao, and fought Kang- that woulda been cool
So there are my thoughts on this good topic...
Petit is the guy with the ninjitsu, but he can't act for shit. Or, maybe he can, but he hasn't really done any, ever. So I don't see why he should return as Sub-Zero, since he will most likely have a more important role this time around. I'd rather have Keith Cooke, since we've already seen his face and I think he can act Zero pretty decently.
Oh, no, I better have Sylvester Stallone as Sub-Zero than the MKA Sub-Zero actor. His face was looking like a gel-haired nerd.
Hmm, I would not like Jet Li in MK Devastation. Why? Becouse his movement culture is far more different than a shaolin monks. I think Jet LI practices Wu Shu, and therefore would look bad as a Shaolin monk. Unless he knows Bak Sil Lum, I would say, keep him out of this.

...it's called acting. You don't need a monk to play a monk. Paolo Montalban acted out Kung Lao perfectly in MKC, and I don't think he knew Bak Sil Lum or any shaolin martial arts for that matter.
