First article to announce [90s] MK movie in progress... FOUND *Updated: 7/3/2012*

Because of a bug I found on Variety's site I have been able to grab the source of the text of the articles from the first batch of articles from Variety that announced a 'Kombat' project was in the works. For those that don't know, Variety (along with The Hollywood Reporter) are known as trade publications. They are the official newspapers for anything show business, from movies to music and more. Think of them like Academic Journals but easier and funner to read. They are important for students of entertainment to read to learn more about the biz.
Anyway enough with the suspense, here they are. Some of them look like they were scanned OCR without fixing it while some of the articles reprint portions from the others. Enjoy :)

Kasanoff has been engaged by Midway Manufacturing Company and Williams Electronics Games to set up deals for a feature film and television series based on their bestselling vidgame. Kasanoff said, "This is exactly the kind of multimedia opportunity I left Lightstorm to pursue. I had seen a world of opportunities in converging multimedia entertainment and this is the first manifestation of this and the best example. These characters are fantastic and will translate wonderfully to film and television."

Kasanoff added, "Michael Dc Luca and his people have a great knowledge of the game — he ac tually plays Mortal Kombat' — and they were the only ones who would commit to making the movie, nut just develop a deal." De Luca said the project will receive priority attention. Although no production or cast names have yet been at tached. De Luca said "Mortal Kombat" will be on New Line's IQQ4 production slate and he ex pects a release sometime in 1995. New Line International began selling the film a I the Mi fed film market in Italy Thursday, as soon as the deal was finalized. Both men rejected any com parison between the "Kombat" project and "Super Mario Bros.,' also based on a popular videogame, which bombed this past May.
