Again good find. I'll watch more later but caught he said he's been attached to the film for 4.5 years which coincides with the 2016 script where his name was added along the other writers before he took over.

Finally an interview that's easy on the ears! They don't show off fancy interview equipment and in no way does this feel fake. A relief for fans.

Not far into it Greg discusses he got attached 4.5 years ago, which pinpoints to the 2016 script where his name was added to the already established Kevin T team.

He goes on to say he only has around 4-5 years screenwriting and begged New Line for this opportunity when it arose.

He blasts the previous scripts in that they were going the wrong direction and he felt the fans deserved a film that went on the lore of MK.

He goes on to say the MK mythology is very complex and it's virtually impossible to translate it to screen because so many of the games' stories were retconned, had alternate timelines, were rebooted, etc.

The script is bringing authenticity to the characters and the stakes.'He hopes fans will get his adaptation feels authentic.

He calls fan intense and passionate and is impressed how fans are finding easter eggs so they put in alot of eggs and fan service.

Greg said he felt Jax's arms was right to be creative about it and feels their way is more authentic - it never made sense when Ermac did it.

Greg says the diversity of cast was very important but needed to be authentic to the characters. For example, have a Japanese actor play a Japanese character (Scorpion).

Greg also served as a consultant "MK expert" between New Line execs and on production. One example, they planned to make "Sonya Blade" her nickname but Greg came in and said no because that's her real name.

They wanted to bring something new to the table and nobody wanted the 1995 film remade.

He wanted a character (Cole) they could create and mold with and is very important to the story they were going with. He made sure he works into the existing mythology - he wasn't thrown in just to be thrown in.

He didn't want Cole to outshine all the established characters. He thinks people will like it and understand it once they've seen the movie and how it all makes sense.

SiSi Stringer blew everyone away with her role and this is one of her major first roles. About her teeth, he said "wait for the movie" and that fans are covered.

Glad Goro isn't a puppet.

Greg was blew away by the crew who made the film but he was very blown away with the fight between Scorpion and Sub-Zero (the fight in the icy gym, not the beginning one where they are Bi-Han, etc). Greg did NOT write the shot where Sub-Zero freezes Scorpion's blood and stabs him with it but he loves it. People lost their shit about this.

He says people will lose their mind when this movie is out. And loves how people screenshot moves from the game here with shots from the movie.

His favorite character, since MKII, was Kitana. He liked MK created cool female characters that weren't in bikinis, etc. He's excited to hopefully bring that character in.

Pretty much a very solid interview. Some new information and a lot of repeated information from other interviews and their twitters.

Note: The producers and directors for the 1995 film did the same. They repeated their stories across magazine interviews, the official BTS book, the Laserdisc audio commentary, BTS featurettes and documentaries, and even TUGMK CD-ROM. However, that movie was overhyped and was what's called a lackluster success, I can't help but to draw a parallel between the overhyping of this film and the 1995 version. The difference is the mode of format is more social media based and very little print resources. I have yet to see a BTS book for this film or anything like that, even a soundtrack, and am hoping we get some kind of audio commentary, possibly from Greg, Todd, and Simon, at least.

That's a good interview, and it reinforces how nice it is to have people who are actually fans of the franchise running the show.

Something that I liked was how he referenced the resident evil films and basically said "our OC isn't gonna be like that". Even though I don't really like the idea, I am glad they respect that no fan wants an OC to overshadow the rest of the cast.
