So we all know that there's not going to be a new Mortal Kombat movie until the Warner Bros vs Threshold thing is over.

But just for fun, how would you do a Mortal Kombat movie if you were in total control over it? Would you make it totally dark and realistic, like Mortal Kombat rebirth? Would you make it more silly and light-hearted like the old movies? Or somethng totally different?

Which character(s) would be the focus of the movie? Who would you redesign and who would you keep pretty much the same? What game(s) would this movie take place in, or would it take place outside of the games? Would you focus on as many characters as you can, or just a few?

If I could do my own, it would sort of be a combination of MK Rebirth and the games. There would be a lot more realism in it but toward the end it would start getting a bit less real, as some of the characters' (especially bad guys) origins are reavealed, and when the main character fights Goro. It would take place during Mortal Kombat 1. The main focuses would be Raiden and his warriors and Scorpion vs. Sub-zero. But the other characters would be totally developed too (Just the characters from MK1 in this movie) I wouldn't change their stories too much, just enough to makr them fresh again.

How would you do it? Let's hear some cool ideas. Remember, just for fun, do whatever you want with it.

With artistic freedom in mind, I'd do the Mortal Kombat tournament that takes place before MK1. It would likely feature Goro, Shang Tsung, Ermac, Rain, and Rayden.

But, comercially, something closer to the games would be more appropriate. MK1 story would be nice.

I'd stay true to the games although MK Rebirth would be in interesting spin off. I'd make it R rated. I mean after seeing Ninja Assassin can we have a Mortal Kombat film with some gory fatalities? I'd have it dark, gritty, and realistic while staying true to the games and the supernatural aspects. Moving away from the family friendly adventure of the original film and being a little more brutal as if it were a real thing and the fate of the world really was at stake. I have an image in my mind but cant really describe it. I guess I'm trying to say it would be a "serious" movie with none of comedy elements like we had with the original.

Since I doubt there is a live-action coming any time soon, I'd prefer to see a dark, anime/manga style cartoon MK - in the vein of Afro Samurai.

Drawn in a distinctly Asian style, with a grim seriousness and dark overtones, with fatalities, gore, etc. but done stylishly, artistically and with little to no humour.
MK has such a rich mythology, and dark, almost evil aura, I believe it would be ideal for the Afro Samurai style animation.

Realistically, never gonna happen, but would be the best way forward imo.

To be honest I wouldn't make a movie but either a series of movies or better yet a TV series. No not like MK:Conquest or Defenders of the Realm, but maybe like some of those Sci-Fi channel TV series (ie Warehouse 13), cross it with StarGate and throw in some martial arts. (Don't forget the great music for the fight scenes)

There are enough characters and interwoven story-lines that can be clearly explained and explored for seasons. If you want you could even have each game given its own TV season. Season 1: Introductions and the Tournament. Season 2: Kidnappings and being dragged into Outworld. Season 3: Invasion of Earthrealm, etc. Then, if the series does good, you can have your spin offs or mini-series maybe exploring some of the MK multiverse history before the tournament, such as the fall of the Elder God Shinnok.

Why should DC limit itself to a movie that will just get pirated before it is even released when they can make a small fortune for years with a TV series and possible merchandise from it? Also, with a movie you are force to decide which characters to use and which ones not to unless you want a repeat of the mess that was the 2nd MK movie. With a TV series, you can more slowly introduce all the characters (or most of them) in the way they should be and have room for them.

I would personally focus on the events of MK4, MKDA and MKD. This would probably work better as a tv series so more characters can get developed, though, and I think that time frame would work pretty well as hour long episodes. I would end it at MKD though, and keep it as close as I can to the source material. I'm on the fence on whether I would make it animated or live-action, but I think I'd lean more towards the latter. I would certainly have blood in it, but not in large quantities during fights. And for the record, I'd probably have Scorpion finish the Dragon King. That's just how I thought it should have ended.

This.
But I prefer that it would be animated instead of Live-action. Either shown on SpikeTv (who like violence, sexy ladies and Kung-fu apparently) or less likely Adult Swim who need a kick in the ass in the anime department.

I'd reboot it for it to be more like classic Kung-Fu movies combined with Grindhouse.
Including film grain during certain parts.
and would follow the first game as closely as possible.
