Okay, this is NOT another lets go bash Mortal Kombat Annihilation thread. This is simply how would you have handled the plot for the Mortal Kombat movies. You can either say how would you have done the movie after the first one, how you would have continued the series after Annihilation, or how you would have done it at the start.

Me, I would just got rid of MKA and make a new plot instead. Now before I discuss the characters, here is how I would start off. The first movie was good, but the ending was just stupid. It made no sense. Why is Shao Kahn so freakinng hug? Yeah he's big, but not big enough that if he were to come against a Power Ranger team, they would have to summon their zords. There is no way I can work around it besides just making it a stupid dream sequence where Liu Kang has a dream about his interpretation of the empereor. It wouldn't even be a vision, it would just be a dream that he'll get over.

Johnny Cage: In the new sequel, he would of course be the champion of Mortal Kombat having beaten Goro. In the beginning in my idea for a film, he would have made a movie about Mortal Kombat and it would have been a hit.

Kano: Like the novel, he would have gotten arrested rather than be dead.
He escapes prison and he later on wonders to outword only to get captured by tarkatas.

Raiden: He's still going to be the whitty guy we all know and love.

Liu Kang: In the film, he no longer did he just lose his brother, but now just about 99% of his fellow shaolin monks. Of course, I'm going to make him more serious in this. While in the first film he went after Shang Tsung, in here he's going after Baraka, but later goes after Shao Kahn.

Scorpion: Thought to be dead from the first film, they learn that he's a dead warrior looking for vengence. While Shang Tsung puts Sub Zero under his power, Scorpion simply pretended to be under his spell to get closer to Sub Zero. He wanted to fight Sub Zero at the tournment, but never got too.

Sub Zero: Not the same Sub Zero from the first tournment, but rahter his younger brother. He at first hated Liu Kang and wanted to avenge his brother's death, but he doesn't have the heart to kill him. He doesn't mind fighting, but he hates killing. He becomes a target for Scorpion.

Sonya: She went after Kano when he escaped prison, but she gets captured by tarkatas later on in outworld.

Kung Lao: The REAL decendent of the Great Kung Lao from MKC (That is if Mortal Kombat Conquest is supposed to take place before the first film). He left the temple long before Liu Kang did. He wanted to avoid the tournment because he too was afraid of his own destiny. He helps Liu Kang in avenging the deaths of his monks.

Reptile: Believed to be dead from the first tournment after Shang Tsung kidnaps Sonya. He comes back to serve the empereor again.

Shang Tsung: Died at the end of the first tournment, he gets resurrected by the empereor. Throughout the film, he remains this mysterous guy. He now labels Liu Kang as his number one enemy and will do anything to fight him again at the second tournment.

Kitana: In this film, she plots to overthrow the empereor. My goal is to make her past emotional. She wears her blue ninja clothing in this.

Jax: He searches for Sonya, but he ends up helping Raiden and the others when he learns that they're his only option to find Sonya.

Mileena: Kitana's evil twin. She was originally born so that Kitana doesn't know that Shao Kahn wasn't her real father. She keeps an eye on her twin making sure she doesn't do anything to overthrow Shao Kahn. Mileena is also very cruel in this.

Baraka: One of Shao Kahn's most deranged henchmen. His story isn't too different from his bio from MKII. He fights Liu Kang later on only to get beaten and reveal that he was just following orders.

Smoke: A close friend of Sub Zero.

Cyrax: Not a cyborg in this one. But he makes a cameo like Jax does.

Sektor: Like Cyrax, he isn't a cyborg in this one. He too makes a cameo with Cyrax.

Jade: A close friend of Kitana. Her, along with Mileen plotted against Kitana, but she later turns on Mileena when she realizes how close of a friend Kitana was to her.

Noob Saibot: A mysterious black ninja who targets Liu Kang. His fight with Liu Kang is the "Liu Kang VS Reptile" of this movie.

Shao Kahn: The boss of this movie. His appearance is that of his MKC appearance. He sets up a second tournment and uses Kano and Sonya as hostages for the Earthrealm warriors. Near the end of this movie, he fights Liu Kang by a pit where he gets knocked down and lands on concrete floor. They at first throught he was dead, but at the end of the movie, he gets up plotting his next attempt at taking over Earthrealm.

Kintaro: Kind of the Goro of this film, except he's more of a trump card.

So this is how I would of handled it. I would love constructive critism to make my idea better.

Kahn wasn't really huge at the end of the first movie, he was just projecting his image in the sky. That's why it was all see-thru and shit.

My core storyline for MK would have the same base premise and characterizations of the games but with a darker undertone to the core story.

It would delve into how during Mortal Kombat, the fighters become less and less human as time goes on. Showing them become ruthless murderers while they are their for the sake of adapting to the kill-or-be-killed environment as well as gaining supernatural powers that also corrupts them slowly when they rely on it, however it'll also realistically show them transcend that way realistically by even showing how they hesitate to kill for the first time when tempted(characters like Cage and Kang specifically). So it would also have Rayden allude to how Shang changed this tournament from the prestigious tournament it once was into a killing field for him to collect souls. So it would also be a test of how far the humans will go to defend Earth when they purity of their soul is also on the line. Dont get me wrong though, Characters like Kang and Cage will be the ones that try to retain their "purity" throughout the story while characters like Sonya, Kano, Scorpion and Subzero will likely succumb considering that their work field require them getting blood on their hands at times.

As for characterizations and whatnot:

Liu Kang: He's going to the tournament for his lifelong purpose of bringing MK back to the shaolin and restoring the prestige it once had but he'll have uncertainty to whether or not he should carry this destiny out because of his fair of no longer having a meaningful life as well as being tempted by Shang Tsung's deceit and the environment of the tournament.

Johnny Cage: His premise in MK:Legacy episode 3 basically but he'll question whether having fame or glory is worth his soul's purity throughout the film.

Subzero and Scorpion: Same rivalry as in the canon except a sympathetic aspect of Sub-zero taking the mission of assassinating Tsung to keep his younger brother from having to do it and touch on Scorpion having a desire to rest in peace once he fulfills his revenge .

Kano and Sonya same as in the games and later developing Sonya as a scarred ruthless anti-hero that takes on evil methods for a "heroic cause" due to the corruption of the MK environment.

Reptile: Also same as the games.

Shang Tsung: He desires to collect as many souls from MK as he can to restore his former strength(look at the official MK1 and MK2 tiein comics to see what I'm referencing) and he also wants to corrupt Kang and veer him away from his purpose by trying to get in his head.

Goro: TBD.

You can make a how would you have handle the plot by starting from the beginning too.

Now here are more plans.

Mortal Kombat 2: Have all 12 characters appear including Shang Tsung, but don't give Shang Tsung an appearance until later in the film. Jade, Smoke, and Noob Saibot will be in it too. Of course the boss, Shao Kahn will be in it as well as Kintaro. Also make it kind of follow the same convection as the first film. Have arenas based off MKII arenas.

Mortal Kombat 3: Of course have all of the 14 main players for MK3. Have cyborg Smoke and Noob Saibot. Of course the boss Shao Kahn will be in it aswell as Motaro. Have all of the characters from UMK3 in it. As for human Smoke, he'll just be in the beginning where him and Sub Zero run away from the Lin Kuei. The original Sub Zero would be a dream sequence for Sub Zero. Have all of the characters from MKT added to it. As for Goro and Kintar, they will be in a flashback. As for alternate costumes like MK Kano, have Kano like he was from the first two movies. Have Jax like he was from the second movie in the very beginning. Have Kung Lao too until he wears his ancestors clothing. Have Raiden like he was from the first movie for a moment when he's at peace. As for Johnny Cage dying, he doesn't really. He just becomes like all the other humans where their souls are taken away.

Mortal Kombt 4: Have all of the 14 main fighters, aswell as Meat, and Noob Saibot. Of course the boss Shinnok will be in it aswell as Goro where he somehow survived. Add on the characters from MKG.

If I were to remake the movies i'd focus on fleshing out every character that I feature in my movie and illustrate the importance and tradition of the Mortal Kombat tournament, and how Shang Tsung twisted and manipulated the stipulated rules for the tournament. I'd first introduce all my characters as people from the real world that every day people deal with and slowly build up the magic and mystical properties that Mortal Kombat's story is notorious for.

As for the plot, the classic premise in the arch of the first tournament i'd keep. You have your main protagonists: Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya stumble into one another who each have their own personal obstacles and developments to achieve and as the story progresses i'd have those three ultimately realize their fate and destiny as the first of the new chosen warriors to protect Earthrealm. I would however make their relationship a lot more complicated than it was in the 1995 movie.

I'd have Liu Kang be like he was originally portrayed, a former shaolin monk who fled from the temples to America because he didn't believe in the prophecies and teachings of the haolin when it came to the tournament. There would be no Chow Kang but instead Liu Kang would be summoned back to his home land due to his Grand father passing away. The Shaolin Monks had Kung Lao ready for the first tournament in Liu Kang's depature but now that he had returned he would be told to step down. Liu Kang's grandfather would be a very important and wise monk and his last wishes was for Liu Kang to choose his destiny as the Mortal Kombat champion. Out of respect for his grandfather who explained the history of the tournament Liu Kang would go but he would not expect any of the rumors to be true. Liu Kang would be a self doubting, ashamed, and reluctant warrior in the beginning of the movie but would turn into a confident, bold, and assured warrior by the end of the film.

I'll continue more in another post down the road
