Okay, so I know it's not *really* Cyrax (hell, the character didn't even exist when they were filming in '94), but hear me out, this theory hit me the other day...

So, as we all know, Cyrax was originally a black Lin Kuei member prior to taking part of the "cyber initiative." The 2011 game retconned the original story so that Cyrax was participating in the 10th tournament prior to becoming the cyber ninja and losing his soul.

Meanwhile, in the '95 film, Liu Kang fights and defeat an opponent who resembles the human form of Cyrax, who then loses his soul to Shang Tsung after his loss in battle.

By the end of the film, after Shang Tsung's defeat, all of the stolen souls have been released back into the void. Ignoring the second film, this would've made an interesting plot point in a sequel as the search for Cyrax's soul would commence to bring him back to semi-human form.

Hell, for all we know, the Lin Kuei could've snatched up his body after Shang Tsung stole his soul tongue

Doesn't work out. Liu Kang's opponent was one of Shang Tsung's Outworld monks. In the original script and the book for the movie it was common for the fighters to fight Outworld monks or other creatures, usually keeping Earthlings away from each other. This was clearly expressed in these writings and visually seen in the movie. Liu is the only one shown fighting a monk in the movie because movies have space and time limitations so the other fighter's first fights were usually cut if not ignored by the filmmakers completely.

Wasn't he specifically referred to as Tiger, in the credits? Sorry if I am mistaken.
