In a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Mortal Kombat 2 writer Jeremy Slater opened up about the challenging task of whittling down character selections for the highly anticipated sequel to the 2021 hit film. One notable absence from the final lineup is Tremor, a fan-favorite ninja who can control lava and metal.

Tremor made his debut in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces (2000) as a DLC character and has since become popular among the franchise's dedicated gamers. Slater acknowledged Tremor's popularity but emphasized that the creative team had to make tough decisions for the sake of storytelling.

Slater revealed that Tremor was initially considered for a role in Mortal Kombat 2 but ultimately cut due to not fitting naturally into the story. The character was set to fight with Sonya Blade, protrayed by Jessica McNamee. The original plan for the character was that he would've died while fighting Sonya Blade.

Slater stated he felt like incorporating Tremor wouldn't have allowed the script to develop the character properly. They isntead chose to replace Tremor's fight with Sindel, in order to give the character more screen time and add to the films emotional impact. Portrayed by Ana Thu Nguyen (The Hangover Part II, Crazy Rich Asians) Sindels role allowed the writers to demonstrate the change of Edenia's environment since Shao's conquest.

Mortal Kombat 2, directed by Simon McQuoid and starring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, is in theaters now. Stay tuned to MKO News for all your Mortal Kombat updates!
