This lends credibility to previous reports of Liu Kang or the new guy working at a supermarket.

I'm also curious to know why fans imply the film will use much of its inspiration from MK11?

The fresh look approach could be good but take this all with a grain of salt - screenwriters no longer have control of the script once it's finished so there could always be changes made. Don't get your expectations high - I'm expecting the film will definitely cater to the new fans brought on by the onslaught of convoluted story-telling presented from MK9-MK11 and thus the same rabid, toxic fanbase that eats Ed Boon's shit straight from his ass no matter how much the newer shit sucks.

The new stuff is the best iteration of the MK story to date..

Don't sook just because Mileena and Rain aren't in it. It is fresh, it is relevant, it is dynamic rather than stories that were made as stand alones.

A LOT of the MK1 story got forgotten for MK2.. a LOT of the MK2 story got forgotten for MK3..

A LOT of what people remember about the games they remember from the movies, not the games.

People bash Ed Boon coz he doesn't put Mileena in the game.. he doesn't put Mileena in the game coz his staff get death threats from some fans online. why would he reward toxic balls of hate?

Plus, Liu Kang worked in a supermarket in the first movie... he was living in America, which means he had a green card, which means he had a job.. what job did he have? Something that was a world removed from the Shaolin life.. something to be low key and out of sight. Supermarket makes sense.

Liu Kang working in a supermarket makes sense if you want him to have an American life.. Legacy had him as an assassin for hire.. the games had him as the monk still who went to the tournament with Siang after he didn't get the Shaolin blessing. I think the movie shifted him to America to make up for the fact he didn't shave his head which makes him out of place.. although he didn't shave his head due to the actor in the game.
