Recently the Production Thread was sabotaged by a slew of opinions and rants. So I wanted to make this thread just for opinions, rants, etc. Good or bad, it goes here.

Following the cast and crew's postings on social media and the recent cast leaks, has your opinion for this film changed at all? Are you any more excited or less excited, or do you hate it even more?

To be fair, we haven't fully seen a lot of it. The cast/crew have been stitch-lipped and pretty much show us videos of them having fun, goofing off, with very little reveals to seeing the actual sets or locations (although I am thankful we have had hints). Alot of videos have recently even come from inside the makeup trailer.

From what we have been exposed to, they are definitely using as much of a variety of Australia's terrain as possible. I've seen deserts, tunnels, white sand, and ghetto cities, not to mention a plane and farming tractor. Plus quite a few forest areas.

Still, much of the casting choices still have some fans livid. Watching the cast and crew myself, I'm actually not a fan of any of these cast members myself. What I mean from that is I don't find their goofing off to be funny and I don't find it wanting me to meet and hang out with these people. Mehcad Brooks was the first major turn-away and it doesn't help he's so narcissistic. He recently apologized for snapping on some people as he was cutting weight UFC style to reveal his bulky physique. Lewis Tan is probably more welcoming for me. Jessica Namee is getting a little overboard with her dog adoption posts. This Lord Raiden guy is hard to follow between his constant paintings or whatever he posts and his lack of English. SiSi, who I had high hopes for, isn't very exciting in any of her few posts she made. She's one of the few though who can pitch this "pauper" backstory that Mehcad Brooks fails at - I mean, he posted videos from the Burning man event for crying out loud, he's no longer "just a kid from Austin" anymore. Joe Taslim comes off way too nice to play an evil Sub-Zero as he is portrayed in the film and I fear it will come across like the guy playing Judd in the new Pet Semetary film - a comedian in a serious role doesn't really work out so well. Thankfully max stopped typing a lot in English so it's less confusing to follow him.

I'm hoping that there will be a lot of movie magic to this film. But I am getting legacy vibes. Hardcore Legacy vibes, not in the good way either. I feel this film will be too gritty and too real to life... and I even had the 11/18 draft for Christ sake. To make this work, they need to really convince us they're not in Australia, they're in Outworld, and that the evil characters are as sinister as portrayed in the script.

I'm not a fan of this "nerdom" the cast and Greg are trying to project and some crazed, obsessed fanatics are nerding over. That shit failed in Legacy. For some fans, all of these posts they have made playing MK11 or wearing MK11 gear will just piss off some fans even more. I don't think most fans realize MK11 has nothing to do with this film albeit some stupid easter eggs that make no sense at all - the production team is just promoting MK11 through the cast lol. As well as every damn movie or product the cast members have ben involved with.

What are your thoughts? Use this space and blow it up with opinions, rants, lol.

I’m not really getting any Legacy vibes from this but I do wonder, how will the costumes look? As long as they’re nothing like Legacy then I’m good.

I hope they use a mixture of practical and CGI effects. If Reptile (for example) is in this movie, then it would look better if he was practical effects rather than CGI imo.

If Johnny is in the sequel, which I hope he is, then I have a couple casting choices for him. This might be a weird one but I would like Linden Ashby from the original 95 movie to come back and play him. I know he’s almost like 60 but they could write his character as an aging star that gets invited to participate in Mortal Kombat.

If they don’t go that direction then I would suggest Jake Gyllenhaal for the role. I thought he was great in Spider Man: Far From Home and I think he could really portray an arrogant movie star perfectly.

For Kitana I would suggest Tessa Thompson. She already looks like she could be SiSi Stringer’s sister and has been in some pretty big projects so she would be a recognisable face whilst not being completely A-List.

Anyway, these are just some of my thoughts.

Let me guess, child trafficking ring whose leader is killed by Liu Kang? (Going off of the 2016 script that was read by Channel Midnight)

well gorolives said they might of kept the childtracking stuff in due to his hints

this famous MK character earned his right to fight in Mortal Kombat by killing a man whose occupation was selling children (if they keep this in, this is a throwback to '80s style films with guys like Don "The Dragon" Wilson) 5) Kid in danger ; Stranger Danger

The ONLY MAJOR ROLE for an under 18 character is indeed Emily. Not saying there aren't other kids, just saying only ONE has a major role... There were kids in the first film too... they kinda appear in the same context in this film....

For anyone who opins or rants about the kid kasting... please keep in mind she is only 12 years old and you probably shouldn't give a negative opinion given her age.

Don't confuse all of these things as related to one kid, lol. Kidnaping and child trafficking ring are two different things. Not every kid who is trafficked is kidnapped. A lot of parents are sadly guilty of trafficking their own kids.

I know they are two different properties... BUT... they are both in the same situation in terms of fan's expectations so...

Are you aware we should be getting a trailer for Ghostbusters 3 aka Ghostbusters: Afterlife? We pretty much have a synopsis and if you research the leaks for this film they have, in the core sense, been right on, with minor detail alterations.

Mortal Kombat is in the same boat. For over 3 years there have been many leaks spilled with the crew ADMITTING they were once true but in their early stages. Now that the 11/18 draft has been leaked and the production has still yet to reveal Lewis Tan's character and only recent did official news come of a kid girl being a major character, many of the leaks are becoming true.

Anyone else notice this trend of leak after leak having a lot of truth, at least in the overall picture, no matter how the details will change?

How fans react to GB3 and its proposed deviations/twists to tie it together with the second film will help me - and New Line/WB - to gauge how fans will react to this MK reboot.

Or... will it? Since the fanbases are entirely different in many ways but toxic in many of the same ways.

Wait, the 11/18 draft got leaked? I thought only a select few had the script?

Only a few do... unattached to production... hence why it is still a leak although not widely available.

What I will say to this, is from a later response from a fan:

Nick Redfield @outsidethelamp · Jul 4 Replying to @WriterRusso and @judgment_art Guys... in MK11 the story we know was completely deleted. What if this new movie goes on in the New Era? Now days everything is upside down in MK Universe. We have to wait and see (as always...) and if it is, get used to it. After all, they only do what they want. @Subz-Zero https://bleekly.com/editorials/2019/7/16/rumor-mortal-kombat-films-cole-turner Also, I found this article from a couple months ago

What are your opinions about the new release date being moved to Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend? This article seems to sway towards that weekend being great for movie releases: https://www.thewrap.com/why-the-mlk-holiday-has-become-a-major-box-office-weekend/ despite January being known as a "Dump Month" throughout the industry?

Do you think the film was pushed back to help ease fan tension and expected outlash from the unannounced changes... and still remains to be seen, the unannounced role for their lead actor, a rarity for studios to do, which is expected to divide the MK fans and build an even newer fan base?

With the recent release of Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer hinting at an homage to the originals but going way different, I find it alarming that fans have taken very well and see their reaction as hypocritical. When the 2016 all-female film was announced, IMDB was flooded by trolls decrying it due to it being all-female. Their only saving grace would have been to use the original cast as their original characters but instead they wanted to create an entirely different universe. Needless to say, despite the 2016 film becoming a commercial success, bringing double the profits than its budget, fans still do not speak of that film's name in disgust.

Yet, the third Ghostbusters film has already released its synopsis and nowhere does it mention the original cast members, who are likely to make cameos anyway. In fact it hints at the future of the Ghostbusters - the boy from Stranger Things and the girl from Captain Marvel aka kids.

So fans are okay with kids becoming the new Ghostbusters even if one is a girl yet they hated the 2016 film for, originally being an all-female cast before later finding ways to make other excuses to hide their misogyny (although admittedly the 2016 film delivered its own slew of Misandry?

I don't know, seems kind of creepy that kids are becoming either super heroines (Logan) or even antihero/villains (Brightburn)?

What are your thoughts about any or all of this?
