I agree but not for a third movie. If they do a third film then thats fine but what they need to do is start a whole new trilogy and base it from MKDA through to MKA. Film the majority of it Green Screen (ala 300) and give it that truly epic feel because really, MK is an epic storyline and MKDA through to MKA would be perfect for this filming process. The Green Screen effect would give the filmmakers much more freedom in regards to sets and set pieces, and would very much add to MKs mystical feel. And to give backstory so people going in are not totally lost on what is going on, have a narrator describe the events leading up to MKDA with flashbacks. Kinda like how they setup LOTR Fellowship of the Ring with Cate Blanchett's voice over.

i agree,in fact if you took away bad word and sex scenes,you can make a gore movie without fallin over the PG-13 rated thing.
And BTW,you can make a censored version for cinema and a uncut verion for DVD commerce!

Yes! Green screened would be great. If they make it like 300. They have Announced they are remaking the Franchise Ala batman Begins. It would be Great if they did it this way and smart. Get the full effect on the world of Mortal kombat. And Please RATED R!!

i have something to say... its been a long while since i've posted here but i have to say Mortal Kombat as a PG-13 would be a straight piece a crap. I mean come on a Rated R Mortal Kombat would be better more blood gore sex and Fatalities. And a 300 feel would be cool if they did it right.

I agree incredibly. If Devastation is to be made, they might as well start over with the first tourney. The only wishes I want are:
1) A good storyline.
2) Competent actors that look like the Kombatants.
3)Violent deaths GALORE!!
4)A movie for each game (Save MK:SF &MKM:SZ)(Hey, Harry potter's gonna have a movie for every book!)
If those wishes are fulfilled, I am happy.

The first is about it being like a bruce lee movie, what do you mean by this, the idea that its based around a really decent martial artist and in the case of enter the dragon a detective aswell. Or do you mean the way the fights are set out. I don't really know about that one.

With the idea of it starting from DA to A, let me put it bluntly NO!
These are the games that are killing the franchise. We want it to go back to its roots. But alot Darker (like what they intend to do with the new game).

My likings and ideas are:
1) 300 Style (Definitely yes)
2) Absolutely in tune with the Mortal Kombat Story! PLEASE DON'T MAKE IT NOTHING TO DO WITH IT (ala Final Fantasy: Spirits Within /sigh)
3)Take it back to its roots.
4) Get an entirely new cast (the actors are just too old - and if you want the series to continue then throw away the old actors)
5) change the name "Devastation" - why would you call it that. give it a name like "The new beginning" or " The Tournament Begins" something that emphasises the fact its starting fresh - you dont want noobs watching it thinking. "Hey, hasn't this sort of already happened, didnt goro and tsung die!?
6) Make it eerie and Dark not light hearted for children its an adult game so make it an adult film (gore galore)

I agree. First movie was good, the second SUCKED, and they are lucky the fans are asking for a third. Start the series over. Get on that movie. And if it all goes well and they make a ton of money, then they can think about adding on. Get a fresh start. It's not like there isnt a bunch of comics or video games to look at and get some good ideas off of. The story line is already set out. All you need is the money and the man power. Hollywood has plenty of both. And mortal kombat is one of the biggest video games of all time. So try to appeal to all fans over 13 years old. Try to appeal to
people who havent ever played the game. Make it full of action and
mystery. It has the ability, but they need to have the balls. People have
been waiting since 1997. Thats 10 whole years. Get a move on. get some
UFC(Rich Franklin as Kenshi), Pride(Kevin Randelman as Jax), Bodog, K-1, Boxers, and Pro wrestlers(the ultimate athelete)(although fights are
scripted). They know thier shit on martial arts. And they arent afraid
of shit. And they love the spot light. Theres my 2 cents.

I couldn't agree more. Who wouldn't want to see Robin Shou (Liu Kang) run around wearing a Spartan Helmet and lead his army of 300 Earth Realm Defenders to their ineviteble deaths. Sounds like a great plot for one kick a$$ movie. Kidding but i totally agree.

Being an new poster, I saw 300 not too long ago and I kept thinking "This is what the Mortal Kombat movies should have been". Don't get me wrong, the first one is fine but Annihilation sucked hard. Be prepared because I'm going to go into a long idea and I might be seen as a purist.

I think there should be narration like say from Rayden, Argus or Taven describing what happened in past movies but also for the current story. They did it in Annihilation. The new movies should be done like the Harry Potter movies in terms of story. Here are some other ideas:

1) I agree with competent actors that look like the characters. How about Jackie Chan for Bo Rai Cho as an idea? I think he would make a good Cho with makeup.

2) The Green screen would make the settting like Outworld look like a bleak wasteland of totalitarianism along with the Oriental themes from MK II and Edenia looks like a kingdom of palaces and prosperity. Shang Tsung's Island should look like the one from the game. What about a deserted Earth during Khan's invasion or the other various realms?

3) Violence. The first two MK movies were obviously geared for younger kids. I want it to be R-rated with the 300 style of violence. I want to see people getting broken, heads and spines torn out, Scorpion shooting out flames, Sub-Zero shooting ice, Kitana slicing people with fans, etc... You get the idea... The MPAA would hack it all to hell.

I can imagine a scene in the Warrior's Shrine with Shang Tsung versus Liu Kang like from the MK II intro. Liu puts on his MK II outfit and fights him. Shang morphs into various warriors to distract Liu. It would be like the intro to Shaolin Monks where Liu defeats him by the flying kick. Imagine that in slo-motion like from 300 with Liu's foot knocking out Shang. Or about various Earthrealm warriors duking it out with a regimen from Outworld or the Netherealm. The possibilities are endless....

4) The characters should be written as they are in the games. I didn't like when they made Shang a horny sorcerer in the first MK movie. I just felt that wasn't Shang, he was more concerned about taking souls than scoring with a kombatant.

5) A kick ass soundtrack. They should do remakes of the various background music themes from the games.

I also have ideas for some of the cast. I know Jason Scott Lee was asked about playing Liu Kang. I think he would've done just as good of a job as Robin Shou did.

I was thinking for Jax, the actor who plays the President in 24. He looks like the smart military person that Jax is.

If Brian Thompson took some acting classes and then they did good makeup to make look like Khan from the comics unmasked I think he could pull it off.

I figured John Lone could pull of both Sub-Zeros since he is Eurasian. (And so are the brothers).

Yes man, This is exactly what I thought as well. A 300/Sin City sorta thing would be just what MK needs. I really hope they make it this way. It's all about keeping it surreal. Mk needs to be in this surreal sort of environment. I also really hope they are reading these threads and taking our opinions with high consideration.
