Honestly, I was bored last night and I wrote this as an idea for a new series of graphic novels based on Mortal Kombat, inspired by the events before the first tournament. Enjoy!!

MORTAL KOMBAT KONQUEST

Prologue:
Follow Shao Kahn’s brutal rule from the time he served as Onaga’s advisor through the endless battles and sieges of realms. When Shao Kahn discovers Earthrealm, he begins his alliance with the sorcerer Shang Tsung and a handful of chosen warriors, and prepares to invade Earthrealm with an unstoppable force. Welcome reader, to Mortal Kombat...

Issue #1-4 summaries:

#1 END OF DAYS
The series (narrated by Raiden) begins in an ancient Outworld when Onaga ruled. Shoa Kahn has risen through the ranks and is the Dragon King’s personal advisor. During a meeting between Onaga and his allies, Shao Kahn poisons Onaga and kills him. Shao Kahn uses this as an opportunity to turn Onaga’s armies against his master’s former allies and begins a bloody campaign that leaves him as the sole ruler of Outworld. Following his conquest of the kingdoms of Outworld, Shao Kahn goes as a far as to create a new species to strengthen his armies – the Tarkatans – created by combing thousands of helpless Outworlders with Netherrealm demons.

Centuries later, Shao Kahn discovers the beautiful realm of Edenia. With an army of warriors numbering in the millions, he invades the realm. Its king, Jerrod, confronts Shao Kahn with his own army but he is eventually taken down in battle. Shao Kahn publically beheads Jerrod and fuses Edenia with Outworld, adding it to his collection of dead realms. Jerrod’s wife, Queen Sindel, pleads for the Emperor to spare herself and her child, Kitana, and Shao Kahn accepts her plea – but kills thousands of other Edenians in exchange for sparing them.

Having conquered Edenia, Shao Kahn takes Sindel as his bride and adopts Kitana as his foster daughter. Still unhappy with his empire, Shao Kahn knows this is only the beginning...

Main Characters: Shao Kahn, Onaga, Jerrod, Sindel, and Raiden (narrator)
Supporting Characters: Kitana (as a child)
Cameos: Jade and Rain (as children)
Notable Moments in MK History
-It is revealed that Shao Kahn poisoned Onaga at an assembly of their allies and this game hi
-Shao Kahn begins his campaign to conquer the realms
-Shao Kahn kills King Jerrod, conquers Edenia, and marries Sindel

#2 VENDETTA
Even with Edenia conquered, Shao Kahn sets his eyes on other realms. These include the Vampire Realm. When he attacks the Vampires, many of them escape into Earthrealm (this is the source of vampire legends in our world today). Shao Kahn eventually kills the Vampire King himself but fails to capture his offspring (Nitara) who escapes.

In Zaterra, an army of Raptors lead the rebellion. Two of these creatures, Reptile and Khameleon, watch as their home-world is overrun by Shao Kahn’s armies of Tarkatans. Many are enslaved by his generals and thousands of others are killed by the extermination squads. Reptile and Khameleon follow one of the death squads through a portal and arrive in Outworld where Khameleon is captured by a group of Tarkatans. Trapped in Outworld, Reptile goes into hiding until he can find a way to free his people and kill Shao Kahn.

Meanwhile, in Earthrealm, a martial arts master known only as Shang Tsung has been dabbling in the forbidden arts and has been influenced by an evil power from the Netherrealm to murder his fellow masters. With his newfound powers, he murders dozens of Shaolin monks and innocent villagers in an attempt to kill a prophesized child that would destroy Shang Tsung. He fails to find the child and Raiden arrives in the village, summoned by the presence of the demon Shang Tsung is possessed by.

The Thunder God curses Shang Tsung to age quicker and doom him to the Netherrealm so he can “join his master in Hell”. Shang Tsung immediately begins to age from the curse but discovers he can heal himself by stealing the souls of others. Raiden, knowing he can’t kill Shang Tsung (gods are forbidden to do so), opens a portal and banishes him to Outworld. Shortly afterwards, a single survivor from Shang Tsung’s attack takes her baby boy to the Wushu Academy.

Shang Tsung arrives in the Outworld and quickly begins killing Outworlders and draining their souls. It isn’t long before word spreads and Shao Kahn learns of Shang Tsung. He finds the sorcerer hiding in the Living Forest (stealing the souls of the monstrous trees) and instead of killing him, he offers Shang Tsung a place in his army. Shang Tsung accepts, because after all, what other choice does he have?

Main Characters: Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Sindel, Reptile, and Raiden
Supporting Characters: Kitana, Khameleon
Cameos: Nitara, Original Kung Lao (as a baby)
Notable Moments in MK History
-Shao Kahn invades the Vampire Realm and Nitara is one of the few to escape
-Zaterra is conquered, leading to Reptile’s arrival in Outworld
-Shang Tsung is revealed to be a martial arts master who was possessed by a demon and cursed by Raiden before being sent to Outworld where he meets Shao Kahn
-Baby Original Kung Lao survives Shang Tsung’s attack and is taken to the Wushu Academy

#3 PRINCE OF DARKNESS
Sindel at this time can no longer live as Shao Kahn’s trophy wife, and Shang Tsung is ordered to train Kitana as an assassin. Sindel plunges Jerrod’s blade into herself and commits suicide. As her soul ascends into the afterlife, Shao Kahn traps her soul in one of his many “soul cages” until he can resurrect her someday. Shao Kahn also places a spell on Kitana and orders Shang Tsung to create a clone of her in one of his flesh pits. The result is, of course, Mileena.

Meanwhile, Shao Kahn learns of attacks on his forces in the Wastelands. Shang Tsung goes to investigate and discovers Reptile is the culprit. Reptile immediately tries to kill the sorcerer but Shang Tsung realizes Reptile’s true intention is to kill Shao Kahn. Shang Tsung offers Reptile the opportunity to serve as his personal bodyguard and promises him a chance to kill the Emperor in due time. Reptile reluctantly agrees.

Shao Kahn plans his biggest assault – Earthrealm. He wants to invade with full forces, but he is forbidden to do so, since the realm and its humans are protected by Raiden. Shao Kahn challenges Raiden to Mortal Kombat, allowing a handful of his warriors (but not himself) to enter Earthrealm. Shang Tsung promises Shao Kahn he will defeat the Earthrealm warriors single handed. Shang Tsung kills countless warriors until the final round when he is defeated by the Wushu Academy’s greatest fighter, Kung Lao. Shang Tsung is sent back to Outworld as a failure and Shao Kahn locks him away in a torture dungeon as punishment. Left for dead without any souls to stop his aging, Shang Tsung is saved by Reptile (finally referring to him as master) and they escape Shao Kahn’s fortress. They arrive in the subterranean city of Kuatan and they meet King Gorbak and his son, Prince Goro. Impressed by Goro’s size and power, he asks him to compete in the next Mortal Kombat on behalf of Shao Kahn. Gorbak and Goro agree as long as Shao Kahn helps them defeat the Centaur race.

Shang Tsung and Reptile return to Shao Kahn’s fortress with Goro at their side and the sorcerer begs for forgiveness. Shao Kahn is impressed by Shang Tsung’s “loyalty” and spares his life. Goro in turn asks that the Emperor deal with the Centaurs, and he does so. The next Mortal Kombat comes and Shang Tsung and Goro travel to Earthrealm. Goro is successful in killing Kung Lao, beginning his winning streak for the next five hundred years, and putting Earthrealm in serious danger...

Main Characters: Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Sindel, Reptile, and Raiden
Supporting Characters: Kitana, Goro, and Original Kung Lao
Cameos: King Gorbak and Sheeva (maybe)
Notable Moments in MK History
-Sindel commits suicide and Mileena is created by Shang Tsung
-Shang Tsung meets Reptile and offers him an alliance in exchange for his service
-Shang Tsung is defeated by the Original Kung Lao in Mortal Kombat
-Shang Tsung finds Goro and brings him to Earthrealm where he kills the Original Kung Lao and his championship title begins

#4 KOMBAT BEGINS
As the years pass, Shao Kahn continues to conquer the realms with a handful of warriors at his side. The final threat to Shao Kahn’s rule is the Cyromancer race: a group of elementals who have powers over ice. Shao Kahn sends his assassins to do his dirty work and they destroy the Cyromancers’ sanctuary. The only survivor escapes through a portal with his two sons.

When the Cyromancer and his two sons arrive in Earthrealm, they are confronted by a group of warriors known as the Lin Kuei. The Cyromancer uses his powers to defend his sons as the Lin Kuei attacks them, but they are saved by a sorcerer named Quan-Chi. The sorcerer sees the potential of the Cyromancer, and advises the Lin Kuei to spare the man and his sons.

Years later and days before the next Mortal Kombat begins, Shang Tsung is sent to Earthrealm to find warriors to help in Shao Kahn’s conquest of the Earthrealm when the time comes. He finds the perfect candidates with the Black Dragon Clan and the wraith Scorpion, who he raises from the Netherrealm, by “answering the prayers of the damned”. When Raiden appears to Shang Tsung before he leaves for Outworld, he warns the sorcerer that the true chosen one has yet to arrive, as the legend foretold. Shang Tsung is somewhat disturbed, and for the first time in centuries, even afraid.

Shao Kahn is already assembling his armies for the invasion of Earthrealm when Shang Tsung appears to him in his tower with a grim warning for the Emperor.
“My Lord – we have a problem...”

-Shang Tsung finds Scorpion in Hell and convinces him to fight for Outworld

Q&A

Who is MK: Konquest really about, Shao Kahn or Shang Tsung?
Shao Kahn.

What does Onaga look like?
In my version, Onaga bears a resemblance to the same race as Shao Kahn.

Who is the demon that possesses Shang Tsung?
I figured between a Netherrealm demon, the Brotherhood of Shadow, or even Lucifer who may be plotting to overthrow Shinnok again.

Is it Chameleon or Khameleon?
It’s Khameleon.

Why is Quan-Chi with the Lin Kuei?
At this time, he was still in service to the clan as an advisor like he was in Mythologies

What does Shang Tsung mean by his final quote?
Liu Kang...

Why the hell did I write this?
