I actually don't mind a Mortal Kombat that has some semi-relistic elements to it. By that I mean, at least for the first movie, have the earthrealm characters witness all these fantastical supernatural events in a way that may parallel what we might think if we were to see something like that in our world. I definitely don't think it should mean we replace most of the lore with some kind of realistic fiction. But instead, I'd like them to show us a world like our own, where people are not aware of the concept of other realms, gods, and supernatural powers (except maybe characters like Liu Kang who have studied and grown familiar with these concepts). Show us the main characters gradually learning about these concepts and witnessing them come to fruition. That is an adaptation I would like; one that starts with people dealing with what we now consider major issues, and then realizing they are involved in something much bigger.
