Please dont make MK Rebirth.
Admin Edit: See more active second thread.
As a long time MK fan I have to say that the main thing that got me interested in the MK universe was the large amount of Mythology which has evolved as the series have grown over the many years. I became hooked due to the great gameplay, but then became addicted as I researched the story.
It is very hard to create a live action based Film/Show which is enjoyable to watch for new people, as well as keeping the long time fans happy (MK only exists today due to the fans after all. It would be foolish to annoy them).
For example the dreaded Super Mario film. The only thing it had to do with the games where the main charaters, but the plot and charaters where revamped and poorly recreated in order to try to port the game to film. Now if the concept of making a film based on a guy who jumps on his enermies in a land full of pipes seems silly, so why pick the game to make a film in the first place anyway? (No I'm not going into the concept of raping a classic concept in order to make money).
My main point is why use MK as a springboard in order to start your own film making trade. It seems if the film/show was to be released no one would even give it a time of day, but because it has "MK" in the title we are discussing it right now. MK fans have been waiting for many years for a follow up (and hopefully a improvement) to the film MK 2 and it seems that once again we have been suckered into emptying our pockets when all we want is something enjoyable, creative and true to the original concept (One day my MK friends, we will wake up from the date rape drug).
If I could speak to the chap who is making this film/show I would like to express my sadness that he is merely trying to further himself while hurting the very fans who are going to watch the film/show. If you're good enougth, I'm sure you'll be able to make it in the trade with you're own creations and ideas. You seem to have promice, please don't kill our baby. Leave the classic to those who know the mythologhy and not just say "Let's make Baraka into a surgeon". We don't need another Ed Boon to crap all over our love for MK. Come on mate. Please don't make this.

Peace and never trust a hippy.
