well I can tell you for a fact, that according to Mink, they are restarting the franchise. I recently received a message from him that he stated so. Below is a piece of that message...

"The film is a complete retelling of the franchise. Think of it in terms of Chris Nolans take on Batman vs Burton's batman. We took the whole universe and the whole story arc from all the games and are starting anew. "

I know that not everyone will believe me or this message. That's understandable. Buy hey, this is what Mink told me. Take it as it is.

I would prefer they restart it. While i was happy witht he first film the 2nd one while im sure they had good intensions just wasn't handeled right. That or it was just a cash in. MK is a hard series to put on film. So many characters to explain and develope. Sub & scorp got no story in the first film whatsoever besides that fact they were enimies. With them restarting im afriad their gonna try to cater to younger fans and were gonna have too many MKD Characters takeing up screen time. I would prefer a TV series were they can easliy do 5-6 storylines at once over the corse of a season and fully develope everyone the right way. Ohh well. At least that would mean reptiles alive again if their starting over.

For me restarting it' wrong.
They can remake just the second movie.
Or better delete the second movie and make a NEW movie,based on the events of Mk3,with more space for characters

I loved the first movie...but Threshold should find every copy of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and burn them! Nonetheless, the first movie still could have been better (it was rated a damn 19% on Rotten Tomatoes! Which still beats Mortal Kombat: Annihilation's 4% damnit!).

Now, don't get me wrong, the first Mortal Kombat was a good film...but it could've been a lot better.

The original Batman film (even before Joel Schmacher got his hands on it...back when it was strictly Tim Burton), got a 76% on Rotten Tomatoes. Batman Begins got a damn 84%! Notice the improvement.

If someone is trying to reboot a series (not make a remake for cash) to make the series what it could've and should've been from the beginning, it's very hard to make it worse than the original. And frankly I'm really looking forward to seeing Scorpion THROW a spear instead of have some f'd up snake swirl out of his hand. Not to mention I'd REALLY love to see Scorpion and Sub-Zero wearing outfits that aren't identical to colorblind people. Maybe closer to their clothes from Deadly Alliance, or even better, something that looks more genuinely ninja-like with some yellow and blue highlights. I'd love to see the scripted fight for Sonya and Jade (yes there was supposed to be a scene where they fight in the original film). And I'd love to see Goro with TODAY's effects (not to mention Reptile, Shao Kahn, and those swirly light thingies in the sky). I'd love to see the movie try to explain why Sub-Zero and Scorpion hate eachother, apart from Shang Tsung saying "Scorpion and Sub-Zero, deadliest of enemies, but slaves under my power." I'd like to see an ABSENCE of plot holes (COULD SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY SHANG TSUNG POSES AS JOHNNY CAGES SENSEI AND ENCOURAGES HIM TO COMPETE IN MORTAL KOMBAT!? WOULD'NT IT BE TO HIS BENEFIT TO HAVE AS FEW PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE COMPETE!?!?) Maybe they could even write the movie to give available room for Kung Lao to be introduced, or even MENTIONED (and I mean Kung Lao with the hat, not the Great Kung Lao). And maybe, just maybe, the movie will be good enough so that people who AREN'T fans of the video game and don't know the plot like the back of their hand who can fill in the plot holes themselves (or be too distracted by their favorite character to ignore said plot holes) could like it too...maybe it'd even get good reviews and people wouldn't look down on my for fuckin' loving MORTAL KOMBAT!!!

I just want a new MK movie. Of course I want it to be great and well thought out, I would just really feel good if there was confirmation of the film instead of rumors. I hope Mink pulls out something badass. I was first frowning on the idea of restarting the movie franchise, but then I thought of what it did for Batman in Batman Begins. Can't wait for this!
