Smoke came to mind as well, but I decided to go with Reptile.

The rationale others have given for Smoke is quite impressive indeed,

And re: Noob Saibot, I echo the chorus of "winning pose with clone".
Perhaps they could charge the 18" price for a shorter rendition?
Your idea for a partial clone is a good compromise,

They could even turn them into bookends! wink

lol exactly. This is something I don't understand, they've given several characters two sculpts before everyone has been released, it makes me wonder if some characters just won't be sculpted. This was done with Mileena too. I mean cool there's variety, but I'd rather have a variety of characters any day.

Anywho, Rain looks great and I cannot wait to see him fully painted.

Gorgeous choice on his pose, the more iconic the better.

Also surprised we haven't see a look at Sonya yet, she was one of the first people mentioned it seems from my memory.

Business 101. Once you burn through every popular and wanted character interest in the line could die. Do you really think the non die hard MK fans will buy characters like Stryker or Nightwolf once all the females and male ninjas are exhausted? Somehow I see 3 versions of Scorpion all selling out before the first batch of Jax's does. They don't have the license forever after all and at the rate of the reveals more than half of 2012 is used up already.

As for the facebook likes to reveal images it's just a bonus. Try being a SOTA or Popcultureshock fan. They go a year or more with not only zero new pics but sometimes not even a name to look forward to. The mild backlash I'm seeing here already from "This and that character aren't made yet?!?!" are exactly why companies keep their plans in the dark until close to release. Be grateful you have a company that is not only competent and has talented sculptors, but has such a close relationship with it's fans in terms of sharing info and sculpt influence.

umm....what?

1. I already know that odds are the less prominent ones aren't likely to get them. I indicated such in my post, so you're not telling me anything I don't already know and openly said such. I don't need to be informed that Scorpion is more popular than Nightwolf or Stryker, this is obvious to even people who are not big fans of the series. The point that I was making was that if they're going to do a huge collection of figures, the collection's kind of never complete when there are characters that are missing, it's just kind of disapointing that a potential high quality character like Jax could be absent because we have two Mileenas and two Scorpions.

2. I was just curious where Sonya was, there was no backlash, my post contained none of it. I asked a question in the hopes that Tyrant or Queve would answer it as they communicate with Syco..so whatever.

3. Be grateful that they're marketing their products? Okay..

I didn't realize my harmless and I must emphasize harmless non-insulting, non-rude post required you to respond as though I was being disrespectful to Syco collectibles.

He did;however, based on the new game, Rain has claimed it as his iconic move. My guess is that Rain owns it as of MK2011, since these are MK2011 statutes that is the reasoning behind it. as he took full ownership of the pose for this game. Just my two cents though.

On first look, I thought the new character to be revealed would be the MK dragon but if it's gonna be Smoke, it's fine with me. Personally I'm hoping that it will be his alternate costume that they use. Still not liking his manga hair..

For Noob Saibot, the above-mentioned poses are fine with me as long as it's a 18" statue. Would be good to see all the ninjas done in the 18" line smile

Cyrax or Sektor, anything is fine for me. I was one of the several that kept asking Syco on their FB page for a Cyborg to be created so I'm happy to see either one. Those will make pretty cool 1:2 busts as well. No love for Cyber Sub-Zero? That change may not have been popular with long-time MK fans but you can't argue it will make a cool statue.

You give one an impression that SYCO is a successful business company. Surely it is successful, in its own area, but the market area is not that big. The majority of their customers in the MK part are fans. With the high price tag they put on the statues, and seeing how much work is being put on a single statue, SYCO has to treat their customers more-or-less as individuals rather than a big group. While the ninjas are popular, the HC fans of MK know that there is more than just that, and sooner or later we must get a statue of Stryker and the likes as well. Editor's note: I for one am not purchasing any of them because I have better usage for €100-250 than a statue, while I really do appreciate SYCO for doing this.

I was a bit shocked to find that Rain has a bit of a bust... lol. Statue looks great, otherwise.

Anyway, I'm pretty disappointed so far with the size choices for these statues. 18'' statues are gonna run 200 bones a piece, and that's nothing to laugh at. Also, I wish these things were fucking scale! Predetermined heights will cause inconsistent sizes in characters when the poses are so dynamic and varied.

I've been saying it over and over, but when it comes to displaying statues, consistency is everything. I don't want a giant Liu Kang to stick out like a sore thumb when placed next to my Kitty, Mileena, Jade and Skarlet.

*sigh* oh well.

My guess would be it's easy to make if it's the same pose. Since she has practically no clothes it's just a base female body with a few wrappings. It also doubles as a way to have her unmasked which is an iconic part of her character.

As for the scaling I'm in complete agreement. It was a blessing in disguise for me since I knew I wouldn't be spending a lot of money now. It would have been a bitter pill to swallow watching the cast go by all to scale, but out of scale it made the choice of picking and choosing much easier.

Having said that I hope they keep all the male ninjas 18" now. Seeing as they went back to do Scorpion 18" you can have them all to scale up to this point. Makes me wonder too how expensive Noob will be in 18" if he gets the clone win pose. Expensive as it might be, I still hope it's 18" so all the male ninja collectors can keep everyone in scale. I'd be pretty pissed if Skarlet ends up being 18" after having the other 3 all 10"

I really don't think the shadow is a good idea, do we really need two of the exact same character? Would probably cost alot more, and be massive.

Personally, I like the idea of the badass crossed arms pose from Noob's throw. I don't like his artwork/render looks like he's about to give a spanking.

but those look HAWT!

They really show off his much maligned main costume,
which I happen to love.
I'm already getting Kitana, Jade, Rain, and possibly Mileena, Skarlet, Ermac, and more, but I don't think I'll ever have room in my budget
for a $200 tribute to Scorpion...

Great work, nonetheless!

LOL!

Well, 18" Scorpion was already in the works when they were doing the 10" version of him and Sub-Zero as well as the 18" version of Subby. It just took them longer to get him done, but, he was already being made/planned since the early beginning.

That being said, I totally agree with your post and sentiments.

I know, right?

I'm just getting the chills (and a headache) thinking about how the next game's promotion is going to be like.

It's probably going to feature hundreds of pictures, videos, promotional teasers and commercials of the two ninjas even if the game is based around Johnny Cage and Raiden.

I see what you mean, and I agree. I too would prefer variety of characters. But, don't fear, only a selected number of characters have been chosen to be featured in more than one sculpture.

Sadly (or luckily considering how gorgeous that 18" is looking), that third Scorpion was already in the works and planned since the beginning. Like I said, it just took them longer than expected to have him finished.

I personally can't wait to see them started on Sindel. That one will surely blow us away!

I don't think they'll be making bookends of the characters just yet, but, it would be nice to see their line expand to even more things like that one.

damienjakk Wrote:

Seems my Cyrax idea was on here also queve. It is funny how we had almost the exact ideas though. Green LED in chest, a saw blade, and a bomb. ^_^

How would you incorporate a bomb into the statue if not him holding it, just have it resting on the ground? Also when talking about saw blades did you mean his standard special move chest one or his fatality where the hand becomes the blade? I pictured the chest cavity open showing the green LED to signify the net, then have one of his arms be interchangeable with whole hand being the saw, or him palming a bomb like his B+2 in MK9.

Sounds pretty cool!

I'd just like his chest open like in his render (which is a fantastic render, btw) and have either a bomb or the saw blade coming out of it. Maybe the bomb can be detachable and not just fit in his chest but also in one of his hands (and look like it does when its partially opened before detonation).

I love the saw blade, but, I don't think it'd do Cyrax justice to have it like he does in his Fatality. I prefer him with both regular hands. And if it has to be just one, I think I prefer the bomb...although the saw blade coming out of his chest would be pretty epic.

So many options!

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Syco is planning to stop using the LED. It's pretty expensive work for them (and for us as well) plus it takes more time o finish their products. They'll start to do more of the clear resins and glow in the dark features. I think thats a good move.

damienjakk Wrote:

Were you thinking maybe green LED in the chest with the entire saw structure coming out like his MK9 special move? That would be a pretty crazy for a statue pose, dynamic looking to say the least.

Yes, I was, actually. smile

One last thing, Syco mentioned they are in fact doing Cage next year on their FB page. IIRC Cage, Reptile, and Quan Chi were listed a while back as characters that got a green light to sculpt if they chose to do so. Any word on that trio with Cage confirmed now?

Thing is they've all been (pretty much) confirmed. The real questions are who will come first and how will the line be scheduled for the ones that will follow.

Since day one they've confirmed their interest on doing the whole line and did some very early confirmations such as Sonya and Sindel, but, as you can see, it takes time and we still don't know who will be the actual character to follow.

MikeyRu Wrote:

About Rain: lol, come on guys, I think we've seen enough of their statues to know they won't make him look like a man with female boobs. They're not going to screw him up.

About Sonya: They know that, Mikey wink. The 1000 likes mark is not just to reveal something special, its also because Sonya is in some serious heavy work. They only just began sculpting her some weeks ago and there's really not that much to show or reveal just yet. They have some great things done, but, if people are already making comments about "Rain Boobs" they are simply going to flip out and burn Syco Collectibles for their unfinished Sonyas.

Its better for everyone if she's revealed once there's more done to her sculpture. That way her poses can be appreciated and the first full look is not a sour one. Does that make sense to you?

Right now neither statue has a finished costume, very limited details on them, and the hair needs attention. Give them a couple of more weeks before they finally show the full 18" Sonya. That doesn't mean that teasers wont be on the way. wink

Nephrite Wrote:
Regarding Noob Saibot: It'd be interesting to see what happens with this statue. His clone is pretty much his trademark and his win-pose is a fan favorite. Maybe it'll end up being a 2in1 statue for a price of 1.5 statue? lol

Hehe, I doubt that (though that would be awesome).

Nephrite Wrote:

As for Sektor, I think he'd look much cooler in his teleport uppercut pose with the green light and green particles coming from the ground (like the special effects in the game as he's doing the move) rather than shooting a missile.

Still, the teleport uppercut pose is my 1st choice for Sektor as it is his trademark move and he looks so super boss as he's doing it.

I love all those pictures you posted! Thanks for sharing. smile

The only one I'd disagree with is the Flamethrower one, simply because they can do much better with an insane soulless psychotic cybernetic assassin.

Yeah, teleport would definitely look cool with those particles probably printed on top of his base, I'm just wondering if the pose won't cover/hide his face too much. That would be a shame.

I know it won't happen, but, I'd totally go for his Compactor Fatality as his pose. I'd love seen that huge thing coming out of his chest.

I think people associated it more with him than Reptile for some reason (seeing how Reptile never got it back, for example). Also, thanks to MK9, I think its pretty much been established as his iconic pose (made even more badass with that water -power thing he does before making it rain).

I swear I've read someone mention something about Scorpion 10" looking bigger than Subby 10".

They have new 18" Scorpion painted pics on their facebook page, looks incredible, best one yet...Wish I had waited for this one honestly, but I alredy got the other Scorpion so too bad. :(

I'm honestly glad I'm not a huge Scorpion fan or else I'd just have to buy this one! As gorgeous as that looks, I know I rather save for an 18" favorite.

He looks amazing though, that's for sure.

PS: I do prefer his 10" pose though. It looks more original, bold, and fun. Something new instead of repetitive, imo.

To answer the question about 'predetermined size'...It's basically every character is 10" no matter the pose. Say one character like Jade who has a standing up pose is 10" and and character with a crouching pose like Scorpion is STILL 10"; it makes Scorpion look like a giant compared to Jade. I mean, would you want a character to look smaller and less detailed just because he has an arm up? It's messed up.

Usually sculptures are measured by scale. Ex. 1/4 not height, that way characters from the same line are all proportionate. I wish they did this.

This was my point exactly. It made me NOT want to buy every statue like I originally intended to and in itself made my mind up for me. Since an entire roster all to scale was clearly not going to happen, picking and choosing my absolute favorites only was a no brainer for me at that point.

I'm aware these are going to sell no matter what, but they lost me as a guaranteed customer on every statue that was going to come out. If everyone was 10" (scale being taken into consideration also like Scorpion's problem) I would have easily budgeted money to buy them all, but now there is zero chance of me doing that. I can see doing 18" versions in addition to 10" versions of the really popular characters, but when I heard Ermac was gonna be 18" that killed all my hype for wanting to buy Scorpion and Sub-Zero in 10" Then when I heard Scorpion is a giant because he's 10" crouching I knew scale was far down on the list of priorities.

Again, this is my personal opinion and in no way a knock at sycocollectibles. However, I'm not going to invest what would be thousands of dollars in the long run to have little Sub-Zero next to giant crouching Scorpion, next to gargantuan Ermac lined up on my shelves. Wouldn't look very good in that regard, and almost every line of any statue/figure is done with scale in mind. Suffice to say most people prefer it this way. Imagine if Kitana and Jade were 10", then Mileena was 18" It would look hella awkward and not very appealing when on display. Having them all 10" is going to look awesome when all lined up, especially if Skarlet is going to be 10" as well.
