I think that the most realistic approach to an mk movie to even have a chance to be succsessful is to reboot the franchise from scratch. They need to ditch all ideas of casting actors from the first film. Its unrealistic to want robin shou to be in a new mk movie because he is too old and so are the other actors in the first film such as chris cassamasa. I believe that the actors should for the most part be unknowns and people who can really act not just the person who looks most like the character. I think its important for the creators of the film to capture the spirit of the characters and not just cast based on who will look cool in a fight scene.

Now story wise they should base the movie entirely on liu kang and his becoming champion of mortal kombat. But at the same time develop backstories for all the other characters such as scorpion and subz past rivalry and why their in the tournament. Shang Tsung should be Old here too. i think it would be good if they could open the movie with a flashback of kung lao defeating shang tsung in the first mortal kombat tournament a thousand years ago and show how shang is bitter for revenge.

For fights they really need to bring something new to the table that is not really been seen before. Hire a good fight coreagrapher. Make the fights fast and brutal and look less coreographed. And they should end violently because after all this is mortal kombat. So that means a big fat R rating is in place lol

As for cast ideas this is what i would do-

Liu Kang=unknown martial artist who speaks good english

Kung Lao=Jet Li would be great in the flashback sequence as a cameo

Sonya=uknown

Kano=Jason Statham(i think he could bring so much life to kano)

Sub and Scorp=unknown martial artists

Raiden=Unknown

Johnny cage=Unknown

Shang Tsung= Ken Watanabe

Goro=CGI character

I think this franchise would be great as a trilogy of fims with the first taking place on earth on an island and as each film releases the story gets more and more epic as the second film depicts fights in outworld. And then the conclusion to the trilogy would be an all out earth invasion by shao Khan in the third and final fim. Each should introduce new characters the same way the games did.

what do you guys think of my ideas?????

Finally, a slightly different from the usual threads thread in this section.

Well, even though I agree with rebooting the franchise (and it's already confirmed that that's the way they're going to go anyway), I don't see why they should focus on Liu Kang winning the tournament. I mean, that would basically be the first movie all over again, and I don't think that's what anyone wants even though the first movie was sweet. I think it would be more interesting to take a different direction, something like making an ''MKC the movie'' if you will, to give more creative freedom to the writers/director/producers, or a Sub-Zero movie, or Scorpion movie or whatever.

I didn't read your cast selections because I don't care, it's what everyone does all the time and most of the times they're absurd so I've given up on reading them.

The best approach would be not to make a new MK movie at all. The franchise is still tainted by Annihilation more than a decade later.
