Despite beginning production and principal photography back in January -- a third Mortal Kombat live-action webseries is proving remarkably elusive!

Officially announced last October; the series was promoted as a tie-in for the April release of Mortal Kombat X [full story]. With early reports confirming appearances by new characters from the video game - expectations placed the series launch sometime within the Second Quarter. Instead, the console release has come and gone - with little to no information about the project since the shooting months.

There remains no official release date, but Mortal Kombat Online can confirm the webseries has been completed.

A source close to the project recently told MK Online: "I wish I could tell you a release date, but I can tell you it's finally finished".

Speculation may infer (from wording) that delays slowed completion of the untitled series, rumoured to be called Mortal Kombat: Generations. The first series of Mortal Kombat: Legacy notably delayed its final episode for two months in 2011, delivering a visual effects heavy finale during San Diego Comic Con [watch]. It remains unclear if the new series will have ties with the previous series.

Legacy II stars Casper Van Dien and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa have confirmed their returns for the upcoming series. Stunt coordinator Garrett Warren steps into the Director's chair for series 3, replacing departing figurehead Kevin Tancharoen.
