It's not because he is planned for a sequel, if they get one, but it's because he "“Felt Weird to Have a White Actor, Literally Johnny Cage, be the Hero”

I'm not going to hold anyone back on this. This statement definitely calls for it to be brought to attention.

Especially since, in the MK lore, a non-white guy was already the hero... Liu Kang.

Johnny Cage was never a hero until Threshold came along. If Liu Kang won the tenth MK tournament we knew as in 1992, that means Johnny Cage had to die.And so didn't Raiden and Sonya Blade and Kano...

Instead what they've done is stripped an actual Asian person from this title and gave it to a White Asian, specifically "a half-Chinese, half-white actor" born in the UK, not Asia.

This makes Goro mad, very mad, ROARING MAD!

Enought with Johnny Cage expectations.

He will be in sequel I hope next movie will focus on Raiden's chosen warriors VS Kahn's army

That's not been confirmed, it's only their "hope" IF sequel is greenlit.

Here are his refutes to that statement. Despite he claims it was out of context, he never said it was misquoted. In fact he later agrees he dis state it. It's not out of context if the speaker chooses to redact or clarify a statement AFTER THE FACT the speaker gets caught with a quote like this:

"That wasn’t the context. It was about JC’s story feeling it wasn’t the right one to start with."

"Totally agree. Was my intention that his specific story felt weird to start with, but my expression of that thought was not great. I love JC and he is set up in the movie."

"... he hasn’t been removed. We are just getting started with him. As you said, his story is so important we couldn’t find a way to do both in this one movie."

Honestly the less this man speaks the better. He buries himself deeper each time.

Instead of this big-budget movie speaking for itself we have one producer - among the several attached - who literally obsesses the need to feed every damn troll. What's the point of media sites even interviewing him besides for their own self-worth when every day he spats off about this or that. Hell he'll probably even spoil the movie before the Aussie/UK leakers have a chance to.

He did say it, but the context depends a lot on what the conversation was going like. If the setup questions were something like "this movie is getting a lot of attention for having an Asian lead, how do you feel about that?" and "can you explain why Johnny Cage isn't the protagonist of the film?

Then something like his quote is not unfathomable. Yes, it is not the best quote, and yes it looks really bad out of context. But this is one bad quote from a guy who said a thousand times that he loves Johnny Cage, and is hopeful to get greenlit for a sequel with full intent to include Cage and let him shine.

And how the hell this interview with Todd Gardner went unnoticed for over a week is beyond me, but here Todd Gardner works to clarify this statement and provide damage control. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pTxexmrz4M

RealmKast also covers this but also a lot of other cool stuff across the MK media board: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdpYecMnXVM
