What do you want in WBs attempt at rebooting as a movie?

Okay, we know WB has given the go ahead for an online series... but there are still talks of them trying to do a movie.
I think many of us here, while we may like the concept of the non-canon "Rebirth" story, we don't want to see it as a movie.
With today's technology, they could easily make a great film based on the first two games. And with many R-rated movies based on games doing rather well (the Resident Evil movies have been the most financially successful video game films so far, each with an R-rating), it's MK's time to try again.
Also, while some may disagree, I still say Zack Snyder would be a great choice for directing. We've seen him do great things with fantasy-based worlds (wasn't a huge fan of 300 story-wise, but it was very stylish... and Watchmen was far better), and he could really take advantage of the dark atmosphere of MK. Plus he seems to have a good relationship with Warner Brothers (4 out of his 5 movies so far), so that only makes sense as well.
Also, while it's obvious that Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya would be the main focus story-wise, they also need to take care of Scorpion and Sub-Zero's conflict. They basically glazed over it in the first film with Shang Tsung saying they were "the deadliest of adversaries... but slaves under my power." This essentially made them martial arts zombies working for ST. Let's not do that again, they're supposed to be fellow contestants.
Also, in all fairness, as much of a badass as Scorpion is, we need to remember the reason why he's so angry and dangerous is because as a human he was a family man who led a double life. While the extinction of his clan was enough to push him over the edge, it was the death of his wife and child that made him give up his soul to become the eternal spectre that we know him as. A battle between Scorpion and Sub-Zero in the proper story context (not that half assed shit in MK:A), would be downright epic... and I'm using that in the proper term, not the "thrown about" way. Epic. Period.
As much as X-men 3 sucked, I still have the music cue "Phoenix Rises" in my head when I think of the possibility of an amazing Scorpion/Sub-Zero fight. The two of them on the beach of Shang Tsung's island as it crumbles, fighting in a large ring of a growing fire... yeah, I'm thinking too much about this
We also need to make sure that the three main characters have proper depth. While the original film grazed against the idea of expressing the fears of the main three, we never got to fully see them each. Liu Kang, of course, but what about Johnny Cage and Sonya? Cage is afraid of being a fake, but he hides behind his cocky actor persona to boost his confidence. Sonya feels that she can't trust anyone, but realizes she'll have to in order to survive.
Also, the villains need to be DARK... they are essentially the embodiment of pure evil, yet the second film relegated them to Power Ranger villain status. Shao Kahn, Shang Tsung, Mileena, etc... they need to be as evil as is allowed on film. So evil, I can't even think of what they could do and keep it legal by the standards of the MPAA... which is kinda counter-productive
So, what do you all think? I know it's a bit all over the place, but I felt the urge to get all of this out!

I am still confused where this concept of "evil" to the extent suggested by Mk Rebirth and clan came from. If you followed the comics and everything else that made MK MK it was all completely fantasy. Yes, stealing souls is considered evil by many, but attaching an "evil" label will actually limit the film-makers in how they produce MK. Because now they have a concept and they're probably go by some Christian definition or other overused definition that would allow them not to explore other venues or mythologies, much of what made MK so great in the first place.
Should Mk be R-rated? Yes. Should MK be resigned as a surreal, "torture-porn" crime-drama? Absolutely not - this is MK, not The Green Hornet or The Shadow or even Perry Mason or CSI. The Chinese mysticism, this poor excuse for a director fails to remember, is what made MK one of the best, if not the best, video game storylines in the history, and especially the heyday of video gaming when Mk1-MK4 were released. Mk was known for violence and started a lot of political controversy, yes, but MK was also known for an elaborate storyline that can be traced to any Chinese mythology book or web site.
If anything, reboot the canonized "island" scenario and add the R-rated features. Personally and from someone with experience in the performing arts and having a business-oriented degree, the PG-13 version of MK is still pretty awesome, since the "waterdowned gore" was replaced with spectacular CGI fatalities that most were canon with the games.
Unfortunately, the "Disney-tweeners" are ruining everything good about artistic mediums. MK required a lot of R&D that contributed to its success. A lot of time and thinking went into the original games to develop a sound storyline with spectacular fatalities (it's fantasy, after all, lest we forget).
If they do make a movie, Ed Boon needs to also make a video game from the movie if they add anything new. Back in the heyday of video gaming everything was marketed well - MK had a real good figurine line made by Hasbro, who's known for making spectacular toys; an excellent music line, mainly by TVT records, who were unknown but dedicated themselves to the best techno-based music for MK, ultimately winning themselves awards and recognitions. Excellent trading cards were available that had a purpose and wanted you to go play MK after glancing through them. TJB video made for an awesome way to bring the MK mythos to video, even if the Goro vs Durac storyline was the only thing not-canon and they reused a lot of footage. Cross-promotions between WCW and MK, two of the biggest names then, helped MK. Ted Turner's networks helped again with a "Behind the Dragon" documentary. A book was written for the behind the scenes of the first movie - the list goes on. Unfortunately, the MK newbies tend to not know a lot about this and the charms that made MK Mk - I know because of the many things I have uploaded and the many people who have said, "I didn't this existed" when they could buy the MK animated video, for example, at Dollar General or Family Dollar up until a couple years ago, or they can still rent the DVD version of MK from Blockbuster, which used to sell the episodes from the animated cartoon series.
In closing - Keep Mk to MK and CSI to CSI.

Well, yeah, the "evil" concept was in regards to the fantasy-theme. I mean, isn't the Netherrealm essentially Hell?
But yes, to put it in short terms (something I obviously had a hard time doing
), the base story needs to be similar to the first film, but with a hard-R atmosphere. After all, if you took the content of the games and made it live action, it would easily be NC-17/Unrated. Rarely can you show a body being ripped in half in graphic detail and still get an R-rating
