From the MK movie, MKA or MKC who had their video game character portrayed best by an actor.

I liked Kano in MK the movie.

lol its not possible to double post if ure the first poster/thread starter. that would result in the posting of two threads. good try tho. ;).

anyway I'd say Scorpion was very well portrayed as he was in the game. tho they kinda ruined it for the second one. "suckers" just doesen't sound right coming out of his mouth.

I don't know if it converged his actual character well but Christopher Lambert did a great Raiden. However the best conversion had to be Johnny Cage in the first one.

How could I forget Johnny! I don't like Cage in any of the games but I thought Linden Ashby did a fantastic job portraying his character.

Sonya: "Oh don't you dare do this to protect me Johnny Cage, oh I cant believe this, you are the most egotistical, self-deluded person I have ever met."

Cage: "Yeah, well you forgot good-looking" grin

Chris Lambert did a great job as Rayden and basically created how we picture the thundergod today: the diety with a sense a humor and a smart butt attidute (sp?). However, Jeff Meeks (I hope I got his name right.) did a double great job as Rayden AND Shao Kahn in MK:C. I thought it was funny when he said "Remember; the greater the darkness, the greater the light" because of his dual job.

Well, I'm not too sure on the personality of the characters on the games(because its a fighting game), but I would have to guess that Sindel from the movie was close to her game counterpart, since Sindel was the only one that felt truly evil in MKA, and Sindel in MK3 game seemed very evil, too. Kahn in the second movie just didn't do it for me.

Sonya:

The tough attitude and the sweet sarcasm was the best thing ever for her character and Bridgette Wilson did an outstanding job there.

The entire “I can take care of myself” attitude is what makes me love Sonya Blade so much. And not to forget the sarcasm that made me laugh so many times.

Johnny Cage:

Who cant love him? Lindey Ashby disserves an Oscar for playing him so well! Jokes were intelligent and far from stupid. His comic relief was well mixed with a serious personality. Excellent job.

Shang Tsung:

WHO cants say he (Name is too long!) did the most amazing job as the evil character in the movie. God I loved the way words came out of his mouth! This guy did an excellent job and no one can play Tsung like he can.

Rayden:

Probably one of the best! The cold sarcasm and jokes were hilarious! He gave such a powerful feeling to the movie and yet, managed to cool the tension with his great sarcasm.

The style of god protector of the realm of earth mixed with the “I don’t care” attitude kicked ass.

Johnny Cage and Liu Kang, definitely. Their roles were very well written, and Linden Ashby in particular really nailed the performance, I think. Unfortunately, his martial arts skills weren't really up to par, IMO, but looking solely on the acting part, he was probably my favourite part of the first movie. Liu Kang, like Cage, stayed true to the Liu Kang of the games, and Robin Shou is great in the role.

IMO, many of the other characters - Raiden, Jax and Scorpion, for instance - was, despite decent performances from the actors, quite different from their game counterparts, mostly because of how they were written. So, as far as 'accuracy' goes, I think Cage and Liu Kang were the best. I really did like Lynn Willams's performance as Jax though, for some reason. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa wasn't too bad as Shang Tsung, either.

The guy playing Shang Tsung was the best. Cary however you spell his name has that whole ruthless, evil vibe perfect for Shang. Runner up, Johnny Cage.

Worst, Sonya. Bridgette Wilson's crappy fight scenes ruined her for me.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I would like to point out that I think Liu Kang's character in the movie, though very well done, was a bit different than the Liu Kang of the game. Let me explain why.

Liu Kang of the game is very confident from the first game onward. He knows his mission, and is determined, dedicated, and focused on achieving his goal. Liu Kang from the movie doesn't believe in the legends of Mortal Kombat, so he moves to America. His brother is killed, and he enters the tournament soley for revenge. He doesn't believe he's fighting for the fate of the world. When he later realizes the legends are true, he begins to doubt himself. He feels guilt because his absence resulted in his brother taking his place. So he goes through the movie overcoming his fears and doubts.

In the game, Liu Kang is considered a legend. He's highly skilled, and a very insightful warrior. For the movie, they wanted the lead role to seem more relatable with the general audience. Instead of making Liu Kang appear to be a legend, like a Bruce Lee type, they made him appear more like an average guy with fears and doubts to overcome, while learning and developing as the film goes on. This way, the audience can relate to the struggles and put themselves in his shoes. Therefore, though I think Liu Kang was excellently protrayed by Robin Shou, I don't really agree that the character matched his video game persona.

Same goes for Raiden, who was also excellently portrayed in the movie, but was very different from the character of the game. The game Raiden seems very serious, and often times very intimidating. The movie made him to be wise, but humorous. And I've also thought of Jax from the game as more serious than his movie counterpart. To me, it seemed like they needed another comic relief character for MKA since they killed off Johnny Cage and chose Jax to take that role.

Out of all the characters though, I think Robin Shou was just so awesome as Liu Kang. Yeah, since Liu's my favorate character I probably focus on his background more, but Robin Shou contributed to the first film so much, not only with his character, but fight choreagraphy and all. His presence and the role of Liu Kang made Mortal Kombat one of my all time favorate movies.

I agree with you. I actually like Liu Kang better in the movies then game, lol.

Sonya has to be one of the best characters in the movie. the whole attitude was done superb! yeah she sucked at fighting, but when acting, you cant ignore she gave her character magic.

I think Jax’s street vibe attitude was betta 2 watch than a serious military type would’ve bin.

In the final group scene in which Jax calls Motaro Mr Ed (I think that’s wot he says) makes him look more confident and showed that he wasn’t indimidated by Motaro whereas in the game MK3 Motaro was like an immovable object.

Also the theme from MK: Defenders of the realm (the cartoon version of MK Trilogy) is continued where Jax realises he is a great warrior even without his robotic arm enhancers.

All around a good character to watch in the movies

I agree, Jax was was cool the way he was in the movie. Just saying he's one of the characters who differed from the game character in personality. Movies have to make certain alterations though. It's just when they go too far (like Raiden's new look in Annihilation) is when they need to just stick with what's already there. I also heard that they were originally going to have Kano in the movie without his red eye piece, but Tobias said they insisted they keep it as it is signiture to Kano. Imagine how it would have been to have Kano without the red eye! Some things they need to just leave alone.

diffinately, they did the Liu Kang, Kitana, Sub-Zero, Smoke and Scorpion scene a bit wrong in that Sub-Zero attacked his friend smoke like he did, he'd have neva done that in the games as Scorpion would neva have attacked Sub-Zero as he has sworn 2 protect him 2 make up 4 killing his brother.

and where did all this 2 win u must use that which gives life come from in the 1st movie and Defenders of the Realm series, Scorpion killed the 5th generation Sub Zero not Bruce Lee wannabe
