CryEngine for next Mortal Kombat
So Ed Boon recently tweeted indicating that NRS will be using Unreal 4 for their next game.
I wish they take a look at Cry Engine because it looks fantastic. They are the devs, the pros and i know they might have considered all other options.
Now unreal 3 was pretty good with many great games. Choosing the engine depends on many factors including but not limited to its features, Great tech support, ease of development, its accessibility, their comfort with the working of unreal tech And also support for mobile development and all. But there was this thing in unreal 3 that kinda gave a vibe that told that it's built with unreal 3. And Unreal 4 is i think has that vibe(speculation based on their tech demos).
So what's your opinion on this? Should NRS use CryEngine or Unreal 4 or you say what engine you'd like... Discuss!

I would like them to stop using Unreal Engine simply because "every" company is using it now. Almost every game you turn on, you see that splash...
"Powered by Unreal Engine" and immediately you can just almost imagine how the in-game is going to look.
And I think these companies used the engine because it's probably an "easy" engine to use.
But yeah, a Mortal Kombat game using CryEngine would be sick!

^ right about unreal, it's piss easy to use. We could probably make a game on it. Isn't crytek going out of business? Or at least cutting back significantly?

CryEngine is totally unnecessary for a 2d fighting game with 3d graphics. UE4 is more than good enough

If it looks good and runs well, who gives a fuck

Yeah from what I have heard Unreal3 is easy to use, some guy made an entire Resident Evil 2 remake by himself using it.
I do not think so because there could be contracts that prevent them from using other engines. However, I imagine the contract that WB signed with Epic for using UE3 in all their games is finished.
I think another important reason is that NRS are accustomed to using Unreal Engine and know how it works very well. They heavily modified the engine for MKX so they have a great base with Unreal Engine. I doubt they would want to start at scratch with a new engine.

It'd never happen in any case, even if only because of the PC market. Even now, two years after launch, Crysis 3 is the premium stress test of a computer system in terms of gaming. CryEngine requires ungodly specs and massively powerful computers to run: it's not necessary for a fighting game to have that. It's just not.
I cannot quote but the thing is that Crysis 3 is such a visual eye candy that it needs such high spec gpu, having said that it is also highly scalable. It looks beautiful even with average hardware but it can look even more better with powerful rigs.
Epic has discontinued providing new updates for Unreal 3 And Ed Boon recently tweeted indicating that NRS will be using Unreal 4 for next projects so continuing using unreal 3 is ruled out.
Naysayers are simply put, in denial that CryEngine is bad or whatever. Crytek is also reportedly doing good again after securing funds.

Nobody's saying that the CryEngine is bad, it's probably the best engine going for games like Crysis and Battlefield. It's totally unnecessary for a 2.5D fighter whose developers are now extremely comfortable working with UE, which is perfectly adequate: look how good MKX looks. Now imagine how good MK11 will look with the next edition of UE.
Hell, if anyone's in denial it's you: you just acknowledged that Boon has confirmed NRS will use UE4. It's clearly a moot point then, the decision has been made. Game over.

I dunno man, unreal 4 looks pretty damn good.

Whats all this talk about them continuing a 2D style fighter?
They FINALLY got the gameplay down with giving the characters their own unique movesets and the environments look AMAZING! Don't tell me they aren't ready to immerse the players in the world of Mortal Kombat in all its glory.
It'll make the MK4-MKA years look like shit, trust me. They should go back to 3D style gameplay using the strongest engine they can.

To Charybdis,
Before Mk vs DC, Unreal 3 was considered an engine for shooter games with mainly 30fps gameplay amd now just look its everywhere. Now Cry Engine is also being used for other games as well. And why is it unnecessary? It makes game look even better and also NRS getting out of their comfort to incorporate new engine which would make their games look even better. Just look at tekken 7, imo it doesn't look MUCH better than previous games and even SFV.
Its just my opinion though.
