Translates to...“Kronika will not be a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11, confirms game artist in an interview with IGN Brasil”

Very interesting development, as I’d just naturally assumed she’d have a roster spot. Perhaps he’s referring to a possible “corrupted Shinnok” version of the character while the vanilla version would be playable?

On one hand, that opens up another roster spot for another character. On the other, I feel bad for people who were looking forward to playing her.

I rather the bosses not be playable. The boss and subboss werent playable in the original trilogy. MK4 and MK5 felt strange with the boss just being right there on the roster. Then Onaga and Moloch weren't playable in MK6, yay back to normal. However, I did like what they did in MKX where we had a normal Shinnok playable, but then Corrupted Shinnok was essentially a totally different character.

In regards to Kronika herself, just about every special move or variation I could think of for her seems OP anyway. LoL.

And just like someone else mentioned, this now opens one more roster spot.

Well say goodbye to all those fake leaks that had Kronika on the roster.

I don't mind her not being playable, not with Geras on the roster.

Shinnok may have got a gameplay overhaul but he never completely escaped the MK4 hate some people had for him, and I think that being playable from the start was a factor. Another factor was design and another factor was he looked like a weak grey old man compared to Shao Kahn.

Cool! That means it's possible they might really go in the direction I suggested in the How should Kronika be approached as a boss? thread.

I’m glad. It opens up a roster spot and I kinda prefer having an unplayable boss.

Bosses should always be playable in offline single-player modes. I loved mk Trilogy for that. Especially if they have unique gameplay mechanics.

Too bad, it will be a good excuse to hack/mod the game when it gets released.

Good! One time-character in the roster is enough! More chance for Noob, Rain and Jade!

I am happy about this. Also (and my tone is as smug as you might think it is) I totally predicted this in another thread considering Geras is in.

Super curious about how the final boss fight plays out though. Currently my best guess is she brings back every character in the roster (some sort of evil version) and you have to go through everyone. Finally, you fight Kronika who has EVERY SINGLE special move from EVERY character.
Okay, maybe that's a bit overkill

Well this is good news, an unplayable boss is how it should be. I prefer a extra playable (classic) character like havik then a boss that I can play. I also think that is the reason for having Geras on the roster. Geras and Kronika should share some moves, so I think it is a form of compansation towards the fans.

Fun Fact: Shinnok is literally the only boss in this entire franchise to be playable in the same game he debuted (Ignoring the fact he actually debuted in Mythologies, which wasn't a fighting game.)

Every other boss didn't become playable until a home console update to their debut game, a version update (such as Trilogy over MK3), or until they returned in a later sequel. Or in Quan Chi's & Noob-Smoke's case, the reverse, in that they'd already been playable prior to being promoted to bosses.

At first I was like "darn" but realistically I'm glad she's not playable. They need to go back to the bases where the final fuckin boss is a BOSS and not a character. I can't believe people aren't happy about this. I bet in her "place" that didn't exist is now another new character. So...cool. Yay.

For me, this is welcome news. Typically, when a boss character has been playable, it's resulted in a weak tower boss (MK4 and MKX Shinnok, for example) in comparison to, say, the rage-inducing powerhouse that was Shao Kahn in MKII and MK3. Boss fights of the latter variety may have been frustrating, but, once that adversity was overcome, the feeling of accomplishment made it all worth it. Personally, I enjoy putting in work to learn the ins and outs of a boss character in order to beat the odds stacked against me.

Not only that, but how different from Geras could she really be? I'd much rather have a separate character with a similar but diluted move set than a continuation of the toned down (and, quite frankly, boring) boss characters we've gotten in a handful of past installments.

You know... just because I pointed out an accurate bit of trivia about the playability of bosses... that doesn't mean I MADE the games or that I even ENJOY non-playable bosses... right?

Because actually I don't, it annoyed the bejesus out of me that Kahn, Goro & Kintaro weren't playable in MK9.

That said... still completely true. Goro & Shang weren't playable in the initial arcade release of MK1 (I think Goro was in a gamegear port or something?), Kintaro & Kahn weren't playable in the original arcade MKII, nor any version that I'm aware of. Motaro wasn't playable in the original arcade MK3, only home releases & later home updates. Moloch wasn't playable in any form of Deadly Alliance, nor Onaga in any form of Deception. And WHILE Quan Chi, Noob-Smoke & Blaze were all playable in the games where they became bosses (Deadly Alliance, Deception & Armageddon respectively), they all debuted prior to said games.

Shinnok is the only boss who was playable on the select screen of the same game he first appeared in.

And we haven't had a new boss debut since Deception, actually. (Unless you count Demon Shinnok, who also wasn't playable in the game he debuted, as it happens)

I pointed this out to a guy on Reddit a month ago who was insisting Kronika would be playable and WHOO did he make a stink about it. Don't get me wrong, I'm ALL FOR Kronika being playable, I'd prefer it honestly. I'm just not counting my time-chickens before they hatch. History is actually not at all in favor of her being playable.

well i can still dislike it (< btw i'm not hating this is a jk thing)

don't care about what they did in the past past was past people are just too happy she is not 'playable' so a spot on the roster can now be filled with another mk1-3 character that will tick everyone off again, i liked that mkx had shinnok in two versions they can do the same with her

plus she's a female the game needs more females in it, it was so disappointing to look at the select screen on mkx and d'vorah was the only female on her role

For some reason I think its better for a Final Boss not be playable.

it leaves a spot open for another character

bosses should be stronger than the average fighters so putting them in a roster would not be far because they are more powerfull than the rest

putting them in the roster takes away a bit of mystery from the boss character, I think

Totally agree she is not playable.

So I had an idea. What if Kronika ends up playing the exact same as Geras except she has all of his special moves? Depending on how the computer plays, this could make things very difficult.

Geras can increase the timer on the clock or decrease the timer on the clock. Anytime Kronika is ahead, she decreases clock time. If she is behind and time is low, time increase. Maybe give her a healing move as well, and all variation Geras would be a major force to be reckoned with.

Perhaps as a lead up to this, you would have to fight each character with all of the benefits of all of their variations before finally fighting Kronika, who is really just Geras with every potential moves.

This could work well and I would be happy with it

She will probably be very cheap, have time influence on rounds, rewind health, special powers worse than Corrupted Shinnok whein it comes to damage, and have Invasion Bosses Kombos.
