In an interview with Ed, he said there will be a big character coming back due to fan demands.

I think he might be Motaro or Onaga.

Kintaro would be amazing as well

This assumes he meant the word big... literally, and not figuratively. In which case he could have been referring to basically anyone.

He’s most likely referring to Fujin.

People seem to have an unhealthy obsession over a bland old man. And I think Ed Boon is making a reference to said obsession.

He said a "Big charcter returning" the way he said that, I think he meant it literally but I could be wrong.

I did have a thought occur to me, that Onaga could fit very well in a time-bending story.

I think it's safe to say we're never seeing Motaro again. I doubt they bring in Onaga cause he really has the presence of a boss and it would really take away from Kronika.

Has fans been DEMANDING Onaga? If so I haven't seen this demand anywhere. And who really cares about Motaro?

I really doubt he was meaning big as in size.

Honestly, I was thinking today that this story lends itself more to a return from Onaga in MK12, lol.

It seems like the premise of this game is through Raiden's meddling with time, good has gained too big a lead on evil. Too much upper hand as it were. And Kronika (as someone who can see the big picture, and believes both sides need to stay in balance) while not necessarily evil herself, now needs to give evil a helping hand...

But how does she plan to do that? We don't know. Kahn isn't likely to play a big role as DLC. Shinnok is out of commission and likely to stay that way for at least this chapter. She could throw some support behind Liu Kang & Kitana... but ULTIMATELY... she herself is the final boss, so Good (IE. We the players) will obviously oppose her in her goal right up until the end of the game, at which point either we'll beat her, or... she'll win. Possibly a combination of the two.

And if her goal is to give evil a leg up again... what better way than to awaken one of the ultimate dormant evils in the current timeline.

We had a happy ending in MKX (mostly)... I could easily see MK11 ending on a bittersweet note... IE. We stop Kronika, but not before she succeeds in bringing back Shinnok, Onaga, Kahn... any of them... ALL of them. Who knows?

I know that scene in Armageddon where the bad guys formed an alliance in the Netherrealm was one of my favorite moments from that game, and I could easily see Kronika setting up something similar to reset the scales between good and evil. Not to mention setup a HUGE badguy (or badguys) for MK12.

BUT... all just my fanboy theorizing. Just fun ideas running away with me. I could easily be way off base, lol.

But I do think Onaga was one of the better things to come out of the PS2 era (I like him better than Shinnok frankly), he does have the air of a boss, and I'd love to see him return as the primary antagonist in the modern era (which he clearly isn't in this game).

The only characters I see people demanding all the time are Fujin and Havik. It has to be one of them.

Whine some more, gotta get that complaint in every thread!

I think it's referring to Shang Tsung or Fujin imo.

That's Agent K's thing since they started posting here, another negative troll that hates everything that isn't blue and has fan blades

I mean, when Raiden goes dark it only makes sense for Fujin to step in to guide Earthrealm and resist Raiden's madness. The story itself begs for Fujin to be on the roster, which is why I think he will definitely be in and why I think Ed Boon is talking about a different character altogether. Maybe Rain?

Assuming this thread is referring to the interview I watched last night (and I don't know that it is, because hey, no link...)

In the one I watched he said (and I quote), "We have a huge, HUGE surprise coming up for a face you're gonna see in Mortal Kombat. THAT'S ALL I'M GONNA SAY!" and this comes after Ed talks about the mo-cap process and how they use real actors faces. The interviewer presses him a bit further and it certainly SOUNDS like they're suggesting another celebrity character...

His phrasing, and the way the coversation is framed makes it sound like the "Huge" surprise is the actor face behind the character, not necessarily the character, or even the size of the character...

And this interview clearly came after the reveal, so I presume they're not talking about Ronda (and Sonya's face doesn't look like Ronda's anyway)...

(Starts around 6:20, but the whole interview is only like 8 minutes long...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vGS2wT0Sok&t=426s

Yeah that certainly makes the most sense. Maybe they got Christopher Lambert to play, ironically, Fujin lol.

Either way, a celebrity likeness seems more in line with the “huge” Ed’s referring to. Of course, a minute or so before that reference, he made reference to a big character returning, and that was in regards to the fan service question. So I’m inclined to think they might be two separate characters.

So a big return? I’d have to think it’s someone like Shang Tsung or perhaps Noob. But if that’s as far in to fan service as this game’s going, at least along the lines of a Tremor type of character, then my guess is that Tasia or someone like that is not going to be in.

Getting Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa to do all of the Shang Tsung stuff would be incredible. I'd definitely love to see that.

Other than that, I don't remember fans really clamoring for Motaro or Onaga. Interested to see where they go with this.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Boon stated that it would be a very familiar face, and with the new technology that is very similar to the photo realism that they used in the first MK, I am betting that they are using the likeness of Cary Hiroyuki Tagawa to portray Shang Tsung. I would LOVE this! I've been eager to check out a soul stealing fatality. Perhaps he morphs into his true form and devours the soul. Who knows!?

Definitely not Motaro and doubt they revisit Onaga, at least for now. Shang Tsung would be amazing, but why do I get the feeling we're going to be disappointed with this one?
