I'm not sure where people (including the OP from TYM) are getting the number 29. I'm seeing one set of 27 and one of 28, the latter of which might be including Shao Kahn's slot -- probably to keep their character select design symmetrical.

So including characters we already know is in- Kung Lao, Kitana, Liu Kang, Kotal Kahn, Noob Saibot, Frost.

And if we include Mileena, Shang, Shinnok, and Jax-

That still leaves 3 spots left, correct?

I have a feeling they might be Takeda, Kung-Jin, and Rain.

This most probably includes some DLC characters, the boxes start fading after 25 insinuating it's not a set number and there's more to come...At least, I would lower my expectations.

You forgot Cetrion and Kollector.

I see 29 on both. I'm chalking this up to the contrast and brightness on your monitor or something to that effect. Some of the squares toward the bottom are more faded than others.

The weird thing is the first image has 27 opaque portraits, and 2 faded/transparent ones

And the second images has 26 opaque and 3 faded/transparent

You'd think that would be consistent.

Anyway, the first Kombat Pack is already confirmed to have 6 characters, so I'm clinging to the dream that this is a positive indicator of Shang, Shinnok & Mileena.

Also the fact they took it down already is usually a positive indicator that beans were inadvertently spilled.

Oh shit. I stand corrected. So one last spot possibly.

Comments on the Bios (everyone should go read these if you haven't)...

• Geras' Bio refers to him as Terminas. More than once even. As if we needed any more confirmation that he was TER, that pretty much nails the coffin shut.
• This is also, as it happens, a strong indication that these bios aren't final, since clearly they didn't catch that very obvious problem in Geras.
• Is it me, or do half of these sound like they can't decide if they were written about the old timeline or the new timeline version of the character?
• For instance, Shao Kahn's reads like it's the same Shao Kahn from MK9, who got blocked (not killed, apparently) by the Elder Gods, yet the story trailer makes it sound like Kronika recruits him from the past.
• Yeah, Kabal's makes no goddamn sense. MK9 made it clear he was a cop AFTER he was a Black Dragon. He was already a former Black Dragon in MK3, MK9 showed him to be a cop circa MK3's timeline, and Kano already knew him to be a former ally... So the story they're now spinning is Cop, Black Dragon, Cop Again, Black Dragon Again... that's completely friggin' stupid.
• Erron Black's bio says he came to Outworld for the first time with Kano & the Black Dragon!? Dafuq? Didn't his MKX background imply that he was ancient, and he'd made a deal with Shang Tsung centuries ago to be long-lived? And now we're being told he only journied to Outworld for the first time within Kano's lifetime?
• Slight Retcon in Skarlet's backstory... implies she existed before Kahn, and he merely imbued her with her powers, rather than created her. (Which does, at least, make her slightly less of an Ermac ripoff, and open up more potential for her backstory/past)
• Tarkatan are carnivorous? They don't eat veggies? Not exactly shocking... I just never remember hearing it before now.
• I notice the wording of D'Vorah's bio makes it more clear this time that she's part of a hive... I feel like I've gotten into arguments with people a 100 times trying to explain she's OF a colonial race, she doesn't CONTAIN a colonial race. She's not a swarm of bugs inside a shell like Oogie Boogie. Her race has a hive on an island. But there's this huge misconception she's a swarm of bugs in a lady-shaped shell, because her MKX bio was worded poorly.

Anyway, Iunno. Like I said, the glaring error in Geras' bio is an indicator that these weren't final drafts, so who knows, maybe the stupid aspects could still yet be corrected.

So with 5 weeks left until launch they have not revealed 13 characters. Strange. By this stage in MKX's marketing cycle, we knew the entire playable roster.

That's because MKX's Marketing cycle was LONGER. MKX was revealed in June of 2014 and didn't release until April 2015. No surprise there.

The way they did MK11 was better. Announcing it in December was smart, that meant less of a wait for fans and a shot at keeping more of the games core surprises secret.

I hope they keep it up with future installments.

When did Shao Kahn order Jade to kill Kitana? That happened in the old timeline during MK3, right? Not the current timeline. Is NRS getting confused with this double timeline stuff? I like how they refer to Shao Kahn as Jade’s “parent.” I’m looking forward to Kitana’s bio now, she was his “actual” daughter.
