This most probably includes some DLC characters, the boxes start fading after 25 insinuating it's not a set number and there's more to come...At least, I would lower my expectations.

There are 6 DLC characters, excluding Shao Kahn.

If this included DLC, the total would be 31, not 29.

I know. The last four or so boxes are gradually fading though, to me it looks like it's mean to show an expanding roster. It's not a set number as they will be adding boxes anyways. Assuming none of these are DLC, is setting yourself up for disappointment I think.

Seems odd to have a roster page containing all but two slots of the full roster.

It's not like two characters in particular are of great importance. The only way it could make sense is if there are only two guest characters, meaning the 29 slots are entirely for MK characters. However, given the way MKX went, I doubt it is the case.

My guesses are; Kronika may be getting a bio spot on the website even though she's not playable, there was a last minute addition to the roster that the leakers were not made aware of, or they are going to add characters from KP1 one by one as they individually release and they are getting close to revealing who all is in that pack given its almost April thus an extra spot for the first one.

My hope is its Rain but who knows, probably the last of my guesses is most likely.

I read some of the bios (as, like Gillbob, I’m more into the lore) and I agree they seem off!

Then again they were probably written by Steve ‘I have no real clue about the lore even though I think I do’ Brownback !

Those are "concept bios" written early on just to give a general idea of the character to the new writers and voice actors.

Proof is "Terminas", I mean, the title bio says Geras and the beta name is used in the bio?

Geras's bio kinda makes me feel a bit sorry for him.

I was going over the leaked roster image and I realized the total number of slots matches the roster increase and DLC exactly.

29 slots in the site image means 28 characters in the starting roster + Shao Kahn. Add the 6 characters in the Kombat Pack to the roster, and you get 34. That's how many slots there are in the above image, save for one.

This has me rather excited. This increases the likelihood of there being unlockable characters. However, this would also mean the SHA in the bottom slot is for Shao Kahn, not Shang Tsung. Of course, the rumored unlockable characters are Shang Tsung, Mileena, and Shinnok. Even though this would add two more MK2 characters, I'm satisfied with Shinnok's inclusion, as well as with getting another female character.

Shao Kahn is listed as "DLC". I'm gonna assume he'll be in a Kombat Pack at some point. Or maybe just sold separately.

I meant the 28 starting roster plus the 6 DLC.

But yes, including Shao Kahn it does make 35.

So that latest leak is looking more and more likely as time goes on but does everyone really think that Jax and Shinnok will be in? Neither are particularly popular or interesting (or crucial to the story at this point in time) and we have seen absolutely nothing to suggest their inclusion if anything there is more evidence to support their exclusion (intros/story details/Shinnok as a match modifier)

i have a bad feeling that Jax will make it again as he always does somehow but Shinnok I really just can’t see him getting another go especially so soon after MKX

Well Jax is an MK2 character- so popularity is mute- he'll always get play because of being one of the classics.

Shinnok is a bit of a shock BUT if his mother really is Kronika and his sister is Centrion- it would be odd not to complete the whole family and have Shinnok in as well. We have the entire Cage and Briggs family, why not the Shinnok family as well?

Shinnok's inclusion would have to do less with popularity and more with story consistency.

Which I totally welcome. It's nice to see Shinnok become more than just a "one and done" villain.

Fair point about Shinnok I guess but are they really going to bring him back to be a villain again? I liked his reappearance in MKX but that was enough for me and with Shinnok being an all powerful elder god I feel that he kind of has to be the big bad otherwise what’s the point of his inclusion, if he is just on the roster as another character and not the big bad it seems like kind of a let down to me.

The other thing that makes me question Jax’s Inclusion is why hasn’t he been shown yet? He has no where near the hype of Noob or even of a shock returning character like Frost so why keep him under wraps? everyone already expects him to return and nobody really cares so just heap him in with the others shown in the story trailer. Mayve I am stuck in a denial/false hope cycle where I just hope that he will be left out for smoke or rain or someone else we haven’t seen in a while

But why does there have to be only ONE big bad at a time? I think that way of thinking is quite archaic and limiting.

Let Shinnok develop. Could be interesting.

It’s not really about having only one big bad but when you have two all powerful baddies like Kronika and Shinnok it seems a bit much, besides I think Dark Raiden is already filling somewhat of a bad guy role in this story so putting Shinnok in the mix just seems like too much I think if he is included he will be underpowered and overshadowed by Kronika and probably Dark Raiden as well.

As likely as that leak looks legit I am still having a hard time seeing Shinnok come back

People saying that Jax isn't a popular character...

Are you kidding man?

What's next, Scorpion is less hyped than Hsu Hao?

Don't use MK online as a scale for character popularity, it is not representative enough.

Shao Kahn is already a big bad type character.. so Shinnok would be 3.

Fair enough. I totally see where you're coming from.

But I don't mind Shinnok's inclusion nor do I think it's too much. At the end of the day, Kronika is(allegedly) his mother and Centrion is his sister- it would totally make sense to have Shinnok along with his family and doesn't come across as random or unneeded to me. I'd personally like to see Shinnok develop past being just a "boss character". That aside, I'm also thinking of what new fun design NRS would give him and how he'd play gameplay wise too.

But we just have different views of the character and that's OK too! I see what you're saying and I respect your opinion!
