I dont really know if thats fair to boon/NRS. People will always be able to put together their dream rosters but NRS will always be bound by things like marketing. If you make your roster without any fan favorites like scorpion, sub, kung Lao, etc your roster could be exactly what you want but it may not be realistic.
Obviously any leaked roster should be treated with some doubt but I would encourage you to evaluate the final roster for what it is not what it might have been.
Actually, the first leaked roster had Sub, Scorp, Kung-Lao and most of the popular character we all come to know. Hell, this roster has even more of them. So it's not as if any of these leaked rosters are far outside the bounds of possibility. Heck, this particular roster I don't even care for.
I think it is fair because Boon is obviously offering up a challenge. He actually declares that people bring up these leaked rosters and compare them to the actual roster- so if he want that done then I truly hope him and his team has crafted one satisfying roster. Of course not every roster will be perfect, because we all want different things, and of course you have to take marketing into account ect- but like I said, Boon is making it seem as if the actual roster is going to be better than this particular fake one- so I hope it actually lives up to that.
I just want a well-balanced roster of Popular characters, fan favorites, MKX returnees, new characters, and a few 3D era returnees. That's all. I'm not asking for the moon.
That's probably reasonable. I wasnt so much meaning to addresse you as the people you mentioned who "will definitely compare". We just all have to not get too invested in unconfirmed rosters at the expense of our enjoyment.
I'm a big proponent of setting your expectations carefully to not disappoint yourself. Your idea of a mixture is entirely fair to want and probably reasonable to expect.

Fair enough. Oh no, don't worry- I'm not getting too attached to any roster. Just really hoping that whatever form or shape it takes- that I'm pleased with it. I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to most MK rosters- the only roster that I truly didn't like was MKX's. But I have hope this will be better.

It is not fair because Ed is not comparing the quality of the rosters but the which characters are in the roster. The original poster says that we already know the MK11 roster and Ed says to bring it up when the real roster is announced. Ed is implying that the leaked roster is wrong. Ed is not making it out that the actual roster is better but debunking the leaked roster.
Ed could have debunked it by simply saying "Not true". He didn't have to mention bringing that particular tweet up after the real roster reveal- that in and of itself will obviously lead to comparisons. He's not stupid. There's a thousand and one ways he could've debunked this that didn't include the latter.

Boon already debunked this roster in a Tweet. Not really sure why this thread is still open.
I would like to say that only 4 new characters isn't unthinkable. As many characters as this franchise already has I don't think it's realistic to expect NRS to keep introducing at least 8 new fighters in each installment. I am expecting this game to introduce fewer new characters than MKX. I will really be surprised if they introduce 8 new characters again. I think it will be more like 4-6.

Gotta be honest, I’m really glad Ed debunked this. While a lot of those names seem realistic, there were still a lot of characters in there I’d rather see take a game off. I know every character has their fans, so I’m not trying to crap on characters, but if we could just have one game to miss some of these, that’d be great. Plus, we all have our preferences.
That said, I’m kinda hoping we don’t see Cage, Sonya, Kenshi, Kung Lao, Cyrax, Sindel, Reptile, Rain, Daegon, Frost, Goro or Bo Rai Cho on the main roster. Also hope that if they go for fan service, they go with Tasia and not Nimbus. Or if they use the idea of Nimbus’ character, they give him a FAR better name.
I’d also be a bit disappointed if Sareena didn’t make the cut. Same goes for Kai. I wouldn’t hate it if some of these characters made it in, especially in story cameos, but having so many trilogy characters game after game, even if they have little to do with the story (stares a hole through Kung Lao), just makes me want to see them give the new treatment to other, lesser characters that had cool concepts but weren’t really well executed in the 3D era like Mavado, Kira, Havik, Kai, etc.
So a few more of those characters plus a few more brand new characters would be awesome to me. We can still get Kitana, Sub Zero, Scorpion, Raiden, Liu Kang, Shang Tsung, Ermac, Jade, Noob, Smoke and other trilogy mainstays and have a fun, unique, era balanced roster that feels both fresh and familiar to long time fans without relying so much on the past. They’ve mined that gold for a long time. It’s the eleventh game. Let’s get more new experiences in there so we can actually miss some of the old ones.
The fact that so many people were happy about this roster is kind of sad, also the other one. Way too many trilogy characters, all the lady ninjas and colour pallette swaps of the trilogy era. People talk about bland characters taking the place of their precious trilogy characters, yet do not want to acknowledge how stupid and silly it is to have all of these previous mentioned in AND johnny, sonya & cassie AND Jax & jacqui etc. If NRS manages to mess this roster up again with all the parents and kids, 90% of the trilogy characters and only a handful of 3D and only introduce 4 new ones then there's very little hope aside from a Armageddon type game in the future for most of the 3D and or the one-and-done characters. To me, this should be the formula:
- 6-8 completely NEW
- at least 4 of the newly introduced in the previous game should carry over (ditch Jacqui, Cassie, Erron Black, Ferra/ Torr)
- have 50% of the MK trilogy characters from the previous game make way for others, so at least sit 50% of them out for at least one game
- maximum 1/3 of the roster from MK trilogy, not included the DLC (they can be all Trilogy for all I care since the die hards can then get their favorites).
- at least 5 characters from the 3D era aside from Quan Chi & Kenshi who are basically Trilogy characters now.
- have a new boss character every game
