So I was listening to the Netherkast Recently with Cyborg & Temp and while discussing the possibility of Skarlet making a return to the series they also discussed that she could be just a one off character (meaning you may not see her again at least anytime soon).

Then Cyborg mentioned Tremor and how he feels the same about him where Temp felt that he might not be a One Off and that his popularity will make him viable for another game.

So from this my question is do the rest of the MK community feel the same way?

The Skarlet/Tremor convo is at 53:31.

Just listened to this last night. I think it's possible both may come back but probably not anytime soon. I think they may be relegated to the MK3 type slots where the team will acknowledge their popularity but use them sparingly.

I would say Skarlet and Tremor were both a definite success on all fronts so I wouldn't at all be surprised if we see them come back in two to three installments down the line similar to Nightwolf, Sindel, ect. when they came back for Deception.

I'm not gonna lie, I was one of the people rolling my eyes HARD when he was revealed as one of the "klassic kombatants" in KP1. I really don't know what the future holds for him. I think his ending(despite it desperately trying to make him matter) sets him up for big things if they do use him. Though I must confess, I found myself more interested in the dream realm than Tremor himself.

I will admit to enjoying the character's playstyle. He clicked pretty well for me despite my overall distain for the character.

As KM said, he's got about as good a chance as any post trilogy character at this point. It's always nice to have more Black Dragon.

As I said in the past, I was never one of those guys campaigning to get him in the game, but once he was released I was sold completely. Both him and Skarlet are the best newcomers from the last two games so I definitely hope they both return.

They took a character with the single largest undeserved fan base in the franchise and turned him into a character I actually liked. However, I don't think Tremor is going to be back. Like Skarlet, who was based on MK2 rumor, Tremor is a character that has never existed in a legit Mortal Kombat game until his appearance in the hand held version of MK9, but was brought to the forefront thanks to rabid fandom. He, like Skarlet, will likely be a one-game wonder that doesn't show up again for a long time.

For starters, who are Cyborg and Temp? Are they affiliated with NRS in anyway? Because if neither are so much as janitors for NRS, then I don't see why I should lend credence to their opinion.

As for Tremor and Skarlet, I don't know who's more popular, but I know they both are. As for their chances of returning in the next game, it remains to be seen, but I wouldn't be surprised if they went the way of most post-MK2 newbies and rarely made appearances in non-compilation games. There are plenty of popular post-MK2 characters that remain underused as playable characters to this day, such as Kabal, Sindel, Rain, Sareena, Havik, Fujin, even some MK2 characters like Jade and Smoke (as his own character, not a variant and a mindless drone).

...they are long time members of this forum, unfortunately they only tend to pop up during the build ups to future instalments.

In the meantime we get to watch you down talk anyone with an opinion while stubbornly pushing your own agendas.

I thought those names sounded familiar. My buddy Shang (Shang_Heihachi) told me he knew them from years past. He's kind of the same way - he usually only comes around when the hype toward a new installment or major update is on the rise, otherwise he hates the forum bullshit more than anyone I know.

They're both old timers from the 3D era of this site like a few of us that are still here, as well as RazorsEdge (long gone) and Shadaloo. They all take part on the Netherkast podcast (of which I'm pretty certain if memory serves that certain members of NRS have actually listened to).

If you haven't already, I'd give their podcast a try. Now that MKX is done, they are talking a lot of Street Fighter and especially Injustice 2, but their backlog of episodes about MKX as well as discussing characters and lore and speculating on future DLC packs are really good listens if you appreciate four dudes who are uber passionate and knowledgeable about the franchise as a whole and NRS as a studio. I think I can categorize them as The Realist (Cyborg), The Gameplay Guy (Temp), The Lore Guy (Razor) and The Comic Relief (Shadaloo).

1) MK XL is not done yet;
2) All the characters that aren't Moloch, Motaro, Drahmin, Dairou, Darrius, Kobra, Mokap, Meat, Hsu Hao and maybe Kira ad Sheeva have a good chance to come back. Among these, however, cameos and random appearances as NPCs or story mode or mentions are not to be excluded.
3) Skarlet was killed by Mileena in the comics.
4) Tremor is still alive, albeit wounded by a shotgun shot of Sonya.
5) popularity wise, the next MK game will bring back the more obscure popular characters, like MK Deception did. So I'd expect a lot of Nightwolfs, Sindels, Noobs, Smokes, Rains and the likes of them.
6) Skarlet wasn't THAT popular as some of you believe
7) Tremor was highly requested, but will be included only if the fanbase keeps on craving for him again.

Skarlet isn't dead. The writer confirmed it somewhere, she's just incapacitated. Not to mention, as everyone knows - DEATH MEANS NOTHING. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mileena in the next game.

Yep, Kittelsen did indeed confirm this. Skarlet is still alive, just probably not kicking.

They need to make him less like a greek god in stone with a gas mask to keep the masses interested, so no. Since crybabies will keep wanting an element of ninja there, he will never be a character on his own. Say bye bye to Tremor until the next compilation game.

Considering how sharply the game story departed from the "prequel comic", I'm shocked people still draw upon stuff that happened in that comic as in-game canon. There was pretty much nothing in the comics that was even remotely in line with the game story. I stopped reading after MKX came out when I realized that the game and comic had nothing in common...so whatever it was Kittelsen said or didn't say, if it didn't happen in the game, I call BS.

Think of it as the whole Star Wars expanded universe fiasco - the entire EU was erased when Disney took over Star Wars. I view the MKX comic much in the same way. Kittelsen is going off the rails and making shit up as he goes, and it's not matching up with the core story, which is the part that matters most in continuity.

That said - Skarlet is a blood creature and Tremor just got shot in the shoulder if I remember correctly. I'm sure they're both fine.

While I agree, they still say it's canon despite the series seemingly not continuing (so it's pointless to say its canon to, as an example, bump sales or something). So until they say otherwise, we have a bunch of canon stuff that makes no sense because it's incomplete. lol

The guys doing the Netherkast are, in my opinion, a great example of a healthy type of MK fan. Personal loves but also the ability to put it on the back burner and really just love, appreciate and analyze what they see.

A balance between excited fan and critic. If nothing else, they really do try to look at things from all angles. Big fan of them! I was supposed to appear in the kast on a few occasions but daddy life is a busy one.

Now Tremor

See, part of me is so happy for these fans. A long, long dream finally fulfilled into a fully fleshed out character! That has got to be one amazing feeling! What gets me is the responses that I seen on forums and social media in general was just kind of a dud. Now I fully admit I didn't dissect every thread and I'm sure the excitement existed. Just speaking from what came across my screen, I just feel like a huge percentage of Tremor supporters just got what they wanted and really didn't speak out to their gratitude. Not to say there aren't any of those people. I'm just saying I personally expected more.

I like the character, I'd love to see him return. I love the treatment he received! I also wouldn't really care if he didn't. It would be a real waste of a good character in gameplay if not anything else.

That's what happens...especially among the Mortal Kombat fan base, but among gamers in general.

They whine. Bitch. Complain. Beg. Grovel.

They get what they want...then they go "meh" and turn the other way. Or "Thanks I guess" and go about their business. Because in this world, the whining and crying til they get what they want isn't enough.

I don't think he is a one off. He is now a full fledged character of his own that actually turned out pretty well in MKX, He might not be in MK11, but I would bet money we will see him playable again in another MK game one day.

Going to have to disagree. I found more that matched than didn't, and the comic gave us more insight into certain characters' motivations (eg Kotal Kahn, DVorah). The comics also explain two key points that the game doesn't (but should), what happened to Sub-Zero and what the Reiko accords were about. Hell, it even had the decapitation of Moloch, explaining why in QC's intros he holds the head.

The only thing I found poorly inconsistent was the timing of Ermac's defection from Mileena. Everything else was plausible (unless i've forgotten/missed something).

I know, right. The wait is a total bitch now that Injustice is becoming a mainstay.

As for Tremor and Skarlet, they seemed like bad ideas until they were released and then proved to be very good fighters. It would be a shame not to mention silly to invest the time and effort into making them fully fleshed-out characters only to not revisit later. I sincerely hope they do make a return, but i'd be okay if it doesn't happen immediately.
