I have not seen this being discussed anywhere specifically.. only scatterings in other threads.

The ninja that appears in the Krypt trailer speaking with Shang Tsung seems to be Rain. He sports a mask with no hood, hair pulled back in a bun... He has a wave design on his chest. It has to be Rain. It is difficult to tell with the lighting in the trailer, but he seems to be wearing some purple (chest & sash). Do you think this increases his chances to be DLC along with Shang Tsung?

So, what do you think? Is this Rain or a generic Ninja? Does this strengthen Rain's chances of being playable in MK11 (base roster or DLC)?

One of the game devs on Twitter (Daanish Syed I believe) has confirmed it's not Rain:

It is so obviously not Rain, but I'm sure he has a name.

Eventually, someone's going to get the idea to make him a playable character.

Hard to tell what his name was in the video, sounded like either Tremor or Trevor.

Maybe it's the name of the player?

I'm pretty sure it says "Traveller"

In MKX Rain has a decent amount of story time (compared to some actually playable characters), has a full moveset and you can play against him. Just can't pick him.

In MK11 his likeness is used on a mute, nameless, generic krypt explorer.

Anyone else get the feeling they're purposely trying to piss people off?

Oh but we get FemJax! Yippie. MK12 will bring back Hsu Hao and this time he's joining the Special Forces and will be the main hero.

Why not? Hsu Hao has been playable in as many games as Rain. And it's clear NRS don't pick the roster based on popularity. If anything they pick the least favourites.

Hsu hao has only been in 2 games if i’m not mistaken. Rain has been in 3

You make it sound like a bad thing.

Any development for Hsu Hao would be a step forward. I welcome it. As for Rain, I hardly think the ninja character looks like him. He reminds me more of Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, just in black.

I think the calls of similarity is just Rain fans writhing in desperation. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Rain fan and would love to see him return, but comparing him to the Krypt ninja just ain't it.

I remember two months ago when I was one of the people skeptical the menu picture was even Rain in the first place - being told by more than one Rain fan that I was in denial and rejecting the evidence that was so plainly right in front of my face...

As a counterpoint... I present: This thread.

It is not Rain. Why would Shang Tsung not refer to Rain by his name? Rain's best chance to be playable is DLC I think.

Whoever he is, he's cute...from what little of his face I can see.

If Rain did look like that, I'd be please. Rain has always been a handsome prince.

Maybe it's a slightly older Takeda.

He is a black and yellow ninja with long hair.

Maybe the bun is a homage to Hanzo

No, TER is a new character. Recall that two new characters are CET (Cetrion) and KOL (Kollector).

TER = TERRAFAUX??? LOL

I think that would make it a Rain Dance.

I laughed at the Twitter thread guy saying he cancelled his pre-order because it wasn't Rain. The joke character based on Prince inspires complete diva reactions from a fan base who misidentified a (likely) generic Krypt avatar. Who would've thunk it. Rain will be back one day, and we'll never hear the end of it until then, nor will we after his return fails to live up to self-generated hype.

I'm cancelling my non-existent pre-order if it isn't Shujinko.

My point was the devs are more than happy to bring back characters that hardly anyone liked or played, but refuse to bring back some of the most requested fan-faves. They continue to claim that when they decide on the roster they "listen to the fans".

As for the krypt-guy... I'm not saying it is Rain, but there's no way it's just a coinicidence that he has a lot in common with Rain visually.
- Hair tied up
- Hoodless mask
- Half-cape scarf thing
- Arms exposed
- Golden adornments
- Wears purple
- Wave pattern (akin to Raidens cloud design in MKX).
- Heck, he even has what look like raindrops hanging off the "waves" (some on his chest, but most on his hips).

It could be that they used some of Rain's design elements if the character is intended to be Edenian. But one could also point to the cape and mask and draw a very rough comparison to Erron Black, too, I guess.

To me, the mask has become a generic character design staple in the MK franchise. It doesn't necessarily mean "ninja" anymore, and could simply be a way of avoiding having to design a more unique face and making it easier to use the character as a plain avatar for the Krypt. The gold adornments and wave design do suggest otherwise, though, so it'll be interesting to see what the story behind the Krypt is, and if this guy is simply a nameless adventurer or if there's anything noteworthy about him.

I'm really curious to see who this guy is, but something tells me Mr. Not-Rain will eventually become playable.

He will become playable if and only if he is given a name haha.

Once that happens, he will be legitimized in the eyes of the fans and will be fiercely requested.

It's just a generic avatar, just like the monk in MKDA's Konquest mode.
