NRS is being called out for the bullshit and they're nervous. You could tell on the stream by their body language and stuttering. Creating a "handcrafted krypt experience" was just another way to prevent people from knowing what chest to hit up to unlock what they really want which then drives microtransactions out of frustration. All the things I should inherently have access to simply because I bought the game like fatality and brutality inputs are now cloaked behind random chests. They even have a screen simply for getting you to pay 500 time crystals for the deals of the day which are brutality inputs or skins. You could spend $60 on the game and another $40 just to unlock 5 skins and 5 brutality inputs. I'm frankly livid that they decided to go this direction. Ed Boon sold his soul to WB.

Although it is robbery, I’m glad I don’t care about the skins. They should at least make the towers reasonable...

I didn't like the kombat kast claiming the game was never designed for microtransactions. If that's true, why are there time krystal bundles for sale up to $40. The game was designed to be as frustrating and overwhelming as possible so you'll go buy time krystals to unlock the skins/gear you want. Its concerning Tyler, Derrick, and Boon on Twitter claiming otherwise.

Simply put, if the game isn't designed for microtransactions, remove them.

There's bullshit afoot.

My kids play these fucking games on their iPads that let you play for a little bit, but after a certain amount of levels or a certain amount of time they get cut off Then they have to wait 10 minutes, watch a video advertisement or purchase something else that lets them keep going. This is where console gaming is headed. The disc is basically your access to the game. After that, pay to play.

I think this is where all gaming is going. Triple A gaming that is, and the further it goes down this path the less attractive all those cutting edge graphics look.

They don't like the way the krypt is handled not the game itself.

Seriously people, they said they will fix it, get mad if they don't but right now wait and see.

It seems all games are indeed headed this way and why? It is basically because today's programmers cannot create a game that is fun to keep playing all the time without having to constantly pay to unlock certain items that make their gaming experience more entertaining. For those of us who paid $100 for the "Premium" edition felt a little ripped off in my opinion and some of my closest friends do too. Premium editions should allow you access to all playable content for example...Shao Kahn and Frost. These fighters should both have been included in the premium edition. The Krypt is nothing more than a way to hide the loot box and microtransactions behind a different name. No matter how you look at this game it is all based on microtransactions and so was Injustice 2. Also if the game is so buried behind these transactions causing you to keep playing over and over just to get what you want it does indeed start to make you gaming experience very unpleasant and not as fun as it should and that is because while playing the game, your in-game currency never truly builds up fast enough to unlock items without shelling out an additional $50 to $60 or more. For those of us who got ripped off by the so-called $100 premium edition, we're not likely to shell out nearly almost $100 more dollars for something we should have had when the game was installed in the first place. This was one of the main reasons I changed my degree in college from gaming to simple graphic designing and programming. Netherrealm sold out to the microtransaction gamble believing their MK title would be so popular, and MK is popular, but it is so popular that we're willing to spend more money on it than we already had.

I know this isn't a 100% perfect example but let us say that in UMK3 besides having to input the UMK3 codes you had to insert additional money to unlock the 3 fighters. Would you be willing to do it? Or would you be willing to pay additional money to unlock every 2nd Fatality, Animality, Babality and Friendship in the game?

It shouldn't have shipped like this period.

The way I see it is, we the gamers are responsible for all of this. Not each individual but the community regardless of what you play. When a company charges $1 for a reticle that should be available with the game and someone buys it even of it is for the purpose of pointing out the shady practice the company sees money being made. "A sucker born every minute" no longer applies to just car salesman. Until the gaming community stands up and says "fuck you cunts, you're not getting our money", stops buying, and buying into the bullshit all developers and publishers will continue to charge for everything they can.

I haven't owned a MK game since 2011's MK and already I want nothing to do with this game: censorship, microtransactions, time-travelling, lack of core characters, lack incomplete versions (can we say where is Kombat Pack 1 for Premium customers), too much WWE & Injustice influence, nothing special about the fatalities, all the leaks are basically out - I can watch the entire Story Mode online so I don't even have to play it anymore - way overhyped, extremely difficult gameplay, major fix already planned, discounted already - and this is only the 2nd day. Yet it sold more than any other MK in history? #NotMyMortalKombat more like #SuckerKombat

Actually shows people love the game, but that #GenerationMe are lazy. The game has been out two days and people want 100% of the content unlocked.

Play the game naturally, unlock it authentically (it may take you months).. and the game costs nothing. But some fans scream and cry wanting to have every skin Day 1. Guess what? You want a short cut / cheat to the game, pay for it...

I agree I dont need everything unlocked right away and am.grateful there is tons of stuff to grind for. BUT I only agree with this for cosmetics NOT Fatalities and Brutalities those should be available to find by experimentation ! Like the good old days

The argument that this is directly related to microtransactions doesn't make complete sense to me.

You can't buy the Krypt currency with real money. A vast majority of the items available in the Krypt, currently, cannot be purchased with Time Krystals, with those being what the real-world money is rooted in. If this were a ploy for more microtransactions, then things like Koins, Souls and Hearts would be available for real-world money.

This is what I find puzzling, and other major publications have noted it in their review-- the frustration of the grind doesn't directly lead you to spending money. The items available for purchase with Time Krystals are highly limited and refresh on a timer, meaning you'd still have to continue playing without your favorite gear for quite some time. If it were a money grab, they'd make all the content available right away for a steep price. Given how quickly they addressed the issue, I'm pretty sure they just didn't do enough QA with the Krypt/Tower loop. It just doesn't add up the way that, say, Battlefront II's system worked. That was an obvious ploy. Kinda feel like people are jumping the shark on this one.

Kinda agree. I do see some potential with the Time Krystals and buying skins that way. Those gears and skins on a timer say where you can unlock these skins. So it is nice to know that if a certain skins is to be unlocked in the Towers of Time and I don't like that mode (or have a hard time going through one), I still have the option to buy it with Time Crystals. Time crystals which I can choose to buy with real money or which I can play for. I think I have around 150 Time Krystals just by playing the game with story mode, tutorials, arcade ladder.

Think the most worrysome part is the grinding for the Krypt chests. Certainly the amount of souls and especially hearts are not balanced right. I do like executing fatality's and try to each match I win, but even that would be grinding.
And I just don't like the fact that it's always online. If I one day decide to not have internet anymore (or if I can't pay anymore), I'm not able to play my game in full. And I revisit older games from time to time.

A couple of thoughts here....

There's been a LOT of complaints about the Towers of Time difficulty. Yeah, I agree, it can be a bit over the top. But it's being fixed. And players are being handsomely rewarded with the next patch in coins, souls, and hearts.

That being said:

I have not spent a dime on this game after purchase. So far I've managed to unlock a TON. If you pay attention to your augments and konsumables, you can farm a TON of things. Here's what I've done successfully. Go into Klassic Towers. Pick a character you've leveled up with and played a lot. Make sure you've attached augments to their gear slots. Then, add a konsumable, like assassin's contract, which will net you one extra heart per fatality, turn on A.I. character in the select screen and select the Survivor Tower. Sit back, chill here on our forums and enjoy watching your character farm up a ton for you.

It's that easy. Takes maybe 20 minutes. And you're all set. Amazing how fast you can earn gold, hearts and souls this way.

I have unlocked a ton in the Krypt already by doing this. I don't think this game is a microtransaction mess. I just think people are very paranoid, and may not completely understand how to use certain features in the game to farm up quickly.

NRS did a crap job of explaining how the Krypt works before they shipped the game. If players better understood how the chests worked before they started playing a lot of concerns would have been mitigated.

This still doesn’t excuse the excruciating grind for things like hearts. How are you going to charge like 250 hearts for a chest and only give 1-2 per fatality or brutality? That’s insane. I’m not going to devote my life to grinding away in this game, especially when every other game out nowadays demands the same amount of grinding.

They didn't do a poor job, they didn't do the job at all. Most everything in the Krypt was not discussed at all prior to launch. I agree that this would have mitigated some of the concerns people are having. And I also agree with you that the grind element can be overwhelming. But with the most overwhelming grind, as you mentioned, being the hearts and souls-- that currency cannot be purchased with real world money. So I really think its poor execution, tuning and education on how the system works ahead of time, as opposed to a microtransaction trap. But what this Kombat Kast has *actually* shown is that they agree, and they're willing to do what they can to address concerns while still remaining true to their vision for the system. Given that this fix includes a bunch of currency, and a toned down difficulty, I'd say we're all on the same page.

If I’m not mistaken, aren’t they only giving 500 hearts? That’s two chests. They need to increase the amount given per fatality/brutality. If they don’t change that then it’s still going to be an excruciating grind and the problem will still exist. If we got like...10/15 per fatality or brutality it’s still a grind but it’s not insurmountable.

Tecmo/Koei did this same crap when DOA6 released with the costume parts grind fiasco (which spectacularly blew up in their faces). Actually, ALL of these “live service” games pull things like this.
