Hard truth- Guests characters probably what keeps this franchise alive in Warner Bros eyes.
A reality we have to just deal with.
Hopefully, since members of the development team have been hinting at the DLC being "filled with classics," there will only be two guest characters tops.
Again, Spawn I can take. Another horror character will might me over the edge.

They took at least some flack for doing a 50/50 split in MKX, because a lot of people who pre-ordered or pre-bought the Kombat Pack or Komplete Edition assuming at least 3 MK characters would be included (like MK9) got angry when only 2 were included.
Assuming you couldn't care less about guest characters, it was (arguably) more cost effective to just buy the 2 MK characters, and skip the pack (additional things like skins not considered). Some people felt duped.
Not saying that will necessarily be a deciding factor one way or the other this time, but it's at least a small motivator for them to keep the guest characters at less than half the overall pack.

Also, I don’t get why Mortal Kombat fans get all pissy with guests while others games like Smash Bros fandom accepts them like desert.
That's probably because a game like Smash Bros is BUILT upon crossing over fighters from different Nintendo properties and so when they bring in guest characters from different companies- of course it'll be received better.
Mortal Kombat has never been that. The franchise has been around since 1992 and we didn't get our first guest characters until 2011- that's a whopping 19 years of no cross-over- the foundation of this franchise is embedded in it's own world and characters- THAT'S why fans aren't doing the twist over outside parties invading our franchise ESPECIALLY when those are slots that could be given to actual MK characters.
This is why there's been such a rise of complaints about the rosters in these games, because we know that spots for actual characters are getting more and more limited due to the increasing guests. It'll only get worse.
It KILLS me when I look on social media to see what the casual public is wanting as roster choices and guest requests far outnumbering MK character requests and Warner Bros caters to them. It's a tragedy.
If you want Smash, go play smash. Don't bring that shit over here. Stay away, please. I want my franchise back.

I'll be so happy if that's true. If there are indeed two packs of 6- then that would be 10 actual MK characters at the very end.
Sounds too good to be true...:/

My favorite kombatant is Jacqui Briggs and no one can change my mind!

And what about...
Tekken with Gon (Gon), Akuma (Street Fighter), and Noctis (Final Fantasy.)
Soul Caliber with Link, Lloyd, Heihachi, Spawn
Heck, I can name more.
Neither of these are meant for crossing over franchises, and I haven't done research if anyone hates these guests.

I can certainly say I am not a fan of how little confidence it seems Namco has in their fighters seeing how they practically sideline the series characters to pander to the general audience with guest characters in every piece of marketing for their games. Especially Soul Caliber. Star Wars character and Ezio was way too far.
