Well, they had some character months... like, one month was all about Sub-Zero, and the next month all about Mileena... And then the other characters were announced at random, some in videos, others in magazines and I believe a few weren't even announced at all before release.

The curious and intrepid should check out 2010 through 2012 in the News Archive for MK2011's promotional cycle. Scrolling through the dates should give you just about the most thorough impression of what happened when.

If i am not mistaken, Jax was announced on October on GTTV, and Sindel and Jade on the same month on a magazine, or maybe the next one. Kratos was showed in December, and I believe Noob's trailer (which showed Ermac) was in February. Both Kano and Shang Tsung were showed on Liu Kang's video, but I don't remember what month that was in. I just hope this time we get a trailer for every character, I always hated the fact that the guys at NRS don't do that.

This really irked me, and I suspect the same will happen with MKX.

Hell I think a few suprise characters at release is cool. Out of the 25+ characters seeing a few on the select screen with no prior knowledge..I can dig that.

Who got revealed at PAX? I don't remember that...from what I remember we got first public gameplay of Cyrax and Kitana...But those two were announced at Gamescom with only screenshots.

MK9:

E3(June)
Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, Reptile, Cage, Sektor, Nightwolf, Kung Lao

Gamescom(August)
Kitana, Cyrax

GGTV (October)
Jax

Reveals after those were more random but more frequent...Like Jade and Sindel in the same magazine...or multiple characters appearing in the same trailer..ect.

To compare by this time in 2010, we knew of 10 MK9 characters versus 8 for MKX...

Not a big deal.

The stakes with MKX are much higher and throwing oil into fire of specualtion is just what needed for the free promotion of the game through fans and the like.

MK9 was MKT 2.0, so there was no surprise who will be in the game, save for the Quan Chi. In MKX it could be anyone, so they desire to keep hype as high as possible is more than understandable.

Might sound a little bit too optimistic, but I have the feeling that we will get one or two characters reveals in 2-3 weeks time.

All I know, is that (not all characters will be released prior to release). Boon had said this in an interview. The bracketed part.

So with the slow reveals, we may only know half of the roster prior to release. The other half will come on release when we have the game.

Also, just hoping that the boot hint leads us to 6 characters being revealed at once come the next event.

Which character was the last reveal for MK9? If memory serves me correct, Raiden was revealed fairly late, as was Sheeva. Can someone confirm this please.

Revealing quan chi would have created a shit storm of hardcore fans asking, pining, complaining that the story would be changed.

Uh...do you guys not remember the huge leak of everything that happened like a month before release? People knew they would be in the game, they were able to get a list of achievements which confirmed Quan Chi and CSZ, and they were able to get the Story dialogue which brought in both Smoke and Sheeva.
