Dont get me wrong Im all for the blood, gore, and violence and I think the battle damage is great, but I think they are taking it a little bit too far. Particularly with the clothing damage, yes during one of the MK fights their clothing might get ripped or bloody, but complete articles of clothing dont just disappear, When looking at the battle damaged Sonya, I mean c'mon during a fight shes not going to loose half of her freakin pants leg, and her boot is like falling apart, I think its taking it too far. Im all for the battle damage, blood bruises all that good stuff and maybe some more minor realistic costume damage would be better, I mean what if someone just completely dominates Mileena, is she going to be naked at the end of the fight?

i see what your saying. i would not mind if there was a mode to turn the dammage off. so far im really impressed with the character models and would just enjoy them in there entirety.

However in a REAL fight clothing does tend to get ripped, slashed, stained, and overall destroyed. so iduno i guess it is a bit extreme lol especially for Mileena tongue

I like the way the fighting looks, but in a real fight I've never seen someone throw a spear with a chain. They are taking these gimmicks way too far. Also, whats up with that guy cutting a body in half with his hat? That shit would never actually happen.

are you being sarcastic?

anyway, yeah the battle damage is a bit too much for my tastes. I remember someone posting a pic of kung lao with his eyeball pretty much hanging out and his jawbone sticking out of his chin. take it DOWWWWWWNN a notch, nrs.

I'd prefer if the tearing of the clothes could stop being overly dramatic. I'm sorry, punching and kicking doesn't make a girl's outfit suddenly turn into a bikini. That doesn't make sense.

If girls can lose that much clothing within several moves, then I would greatly like to see the males lose that much clothing as well. Fair is fair.

Other than that, I just don't want it to look TOO dramatic with the damages.

I love it!

I guess it would be ok to have an option to turn it off, but to take it away from the final build... HELL NO!!!

This game is looking great. Though, I do wonder how Kitana will do her wink win pose with an eye dangling out. Glitch?

I don't see a problem with it at all. Is it a little extreme and over the top? Sure, absolutely, but to me, that's just Mortal Kombat in general. Do the fatalities need to be THAT gory? Well no, they don't. But they are, and it's one of the many things that make this series unique.

If you want to think about it in terms of "would that really happen," then I think you're kind of missing the point of these games. Now if you have a problem with the ladies showing more skin than the guys when it comes to clothing damage, then fine, I can see the validity in that argument.

But l personally think that the battle damage is cool and in a battle where people are teleport uppercutting, fireballing and generally kicking the crap out of people, I don't overly see the need to stop and analyze the plausability of the damage inflicted.

Over the top gore in a game that prides itself on being over the top should not come as some unexpected surprise or an unrealistic addition. To me, it's a great use of the graphics engine and a fun nod to how much these characters are absolutely destroying each other while fighting.

I'm not happy with it at all and I hope you can turn it off, especially for the females. I don't understand how a few punches and kicks can automatically turn a girl 3/4s nude. Sonya's pants are completely ridiculous when they get torn. They are just pushing the sex thing way too far with these girls, and when you consider that after the match, they have half their (little at that) clothing gone, PLUS they are covered in cuts and blood? Yeah....to me a sexual image covered in cuts, blood, and gore really doesn't mix well. Sex just doesn't fit well in an over-the-top brutal game like this. Subtle tearing, and things like masks flying off and getting broken is cool. The stuff they are doing? It's a little extreme. Half of Scorpion's face is missing in one vid for crying out loud.

No, I think its great and a good attention to detail. With the eye ball and jaw bone sticking out just adds alot more awesomeness to the game...no offense to anyone but if yall think thats a little extreme then maybe you shouldn't be playing a game where people get brutally murdered.

The battle damage is fine, there is more stuff being thrown around besides punches and kicks. Cloths will get riped with sharp objects and multiple elements being shot/throw around.
We wanted the most brutal MK and we are getting it.

the battle damage is great, clothes getting shredded, bones getting broke... its great, this is MORTAL KOMBAT, not street fighter. if u think its extreme, then go play another game... lol at people worried about the lack of clothes the females have, what about the females getting their heads ripped off and sawed in half..and were talking about CLOTHES..

Again, I don't see how people can question the plausability of damge in this kind of a game, I just don't. By that same logic, throwing a fireball at a character should kill them. Instantly. Because if you actually got hit with a ball of fire, and I'm not just talkinga bout having fire hit you, but actually having a solid ball of fire connect with your body...

You see where I'm going here? This game is supposed to be brutal. So yeah, the violence and the damage are over the top. I mean honestly, people complained so much and so loudly about the lack of violence in MKvsDC that the MK team is now bending over backwards to push the M rating to its absolute limits in this game and people are mad that they've taken it too far?

I know you can't please everyone and I know that everyone's entitled to their opinion but honestly, being surprised by over the top gore in a Mortal Kombat game of all games is a bit ridiculous.

Now the clothing getting torn and what not? Well, if you have a problem with it, more power to you, I guess. I think that it's a cool effect and it just adds to the look that these characters are absolutly destroying one another, but if you'd rather make this in to an issue about the women revealing too much, then be my guest.

Women in MK haven't worn what anyone might consider to be "modest" fighting attire since MK1. We've now had what, 18 years to get over the fact that women in this series tend to be scantily clad? Is it sexist? Probably. But it's not as if alot of the men are wearing a ton of clothing either. Shao Khan, anyone?

Still, that's another argument for another day. I understand the mixture of sex and violence might be a bit offputting, I get that. But when it comes to pushing the M rating, you had to realize at some point that they were also going to push the sex a bit more as well, right?

Again, look at Kitana in MK2, Tanya in MK4, Mileena in MK:D... This isn't new. So when you take that objectification and put it in a hard M rated game, not surprisingly you'll have a mixture of sex and violence. I get why it might be strange, I just don't see why anyone's surprised by it is all.

Battle damage is required for a violent next gen game like this.

Similar to how you would expect vehicles to get damage pretty badly in racing simulators.

To those who think punching and kicking in MK wouldn't rip pants, look outside of the box here:

Spears are being thrown, a hat with a razor blade being swung around, claws of a reptile, mileena's teeth, acid, fire, explosions, projectiles, axes, swords, and etc!

These aren't just punches and kicks were talking about here. Someone is bound to be practically a walking flesh model after all the things they went through listed. Battle damage is a requirement at this point. If it was turned off the fight would be dull.

I expect for mileena to have a spell put on her by Tsung.

The more she takes damage the more clothes appear on her untill she's in a full on prom dress at the end of the fight.

As I've said in the other post about sexuality and the like in this game "How can you be offended by Sonya's asscheek but not Kung Lao's hat ripping you from the genitals/asshole and completely ripping you in half?" Something's gotta give. Thanks to the poster who made the argument much better than I ever could.

I would like for there to be an option where you can remove battle damage because these models are GORGEOUS. But that's only for aesthetic purposes and not because an ass and some side-boob offends me more than someone gettng brutally mauled. And for someone's face to be ripped off like Scorpion's makes sense especially with the inclusion of weapons. @Kyzon: LMFAO

I agree about the battle damage and level of brutality, it makes sense, but you are kidding yourself if you think how the women appeared in the past is anywhere near what it is now in terms of revealing.

I love the battle damage, I would just like the ability/option to turn it down a bit or toggle it off for aethetic purposes because when I played Mk v.s. DC, when you'd win with Sonya and I would literally only get hit 5 times and she still looked like she had gotten literally destroyed in the fight, black eye, bruises, shirt's all messed up from five hits? They gore and brutal battle damage is still amazing though.

I'm fine with the gore and "nudity", hell if i had my way you'd be able to get 100% nude and be able to rip someones arm off mid-round. Sex and Death compliment each other nicely, or at least for me they do.

But i do want the males to have the same clothes rip features as the females. (obviously not to the extent that it's game breaking if they don't)

And lol there are like three topics up here that are only slightly different questions, it's all the same conversation though.

How? Well, they're not the same exact issue, are they? A lot of times they get lumped into one exact thing to be offended at, but they really are two seperate issues, and yes, people can be "offended" by one topic, and not another. It's personal taste and conviction. But that's a dead horse that's been beaten many times on this board already, and is not likely to change.

Of course you "can" be offended, but in my mind it doesn't make any sense at all. They are both totally related in this Western society which deems both sex and violence on the same pole in terms of extremity. If anything, I'm more bothered by the fact that someone is sawed in half than someone who is naked which is in many societies rather normal. Like you said though it's all a matter of personal opinion, and I'm of the opinion that it makes no sense for me to be offended more by nudity and flesh than violence.
