I think they are just them doing special moves with special camera angles.

I'm positive they are intros.

I'm wondering if they aren't very short clips from story mode. Nightwolf hitting himself with lightning doesn't make a lot of sense when there's no context.
I would be very happy if the game does have pre-fight intros though. But ideally, they'd have to do more than just show up and do a special move, I'd want them to SAY some sort of catchphrase or one-liner too.
Any excuse to work the line "You just got Caged" into more games makes me smile with glee.

There will be a story-mode.

Some of those scenes are from the story mode of the game. I know that some characters will have more predominant roles than others, similar to what we saw in MKvsDC. There will be some main protagonists and so far I know Sonya is one of them again.

First thought that came to me was "rage". He had that same yellow glow.

Nah, I'm sure the glow is just from the energy. There's no good reason to bring Rage Mode back.
