Create-a-Character new idea (limited to MK characters only).
I like "Create-a-Character" but this time it should be limited to the following conditions;
We can only change three main things based on the main MK characters only:
1- Face & Skin (while keeping mandatory features like Mileena's teeth...)
2- Costume.
3- Special Moves; we can only change projectiles and weapons colors/shapes.
The rest like the main characters names, fighting styles, fatalities...remain the same.
This would be AWESOME just to see your favorite character with his/her face, costume, and special moves shapes/colors the way you want!!!!
(For example, I pick Mileena and I do the following:
1- Face & Skin: longer hair, bigger ears, white eyes, black skin...
2- Costume: MK2 costume, yellow color...
3- Special moves: Sai projectile white, Sai shorter with different shape...)
Go here to see the steps with descriptive pictures samples in details about the above idea (use slideshow arrows to move from one picture to another):

No thanks, keep this game core MK, no gimmicky BS.

Charater edit systems are a must for fighting games IMO these days... and you can easily make the system simple so you arent making HUGE changes to the characters that would make them look silly
0
It will look really stupid, online would be annoying with all theese noobs making all mk characters look like retards, just keep it a solid fighter, no gimmiks as someone said before.

I don't see anything wrong with a way to customize your fighter, but I'd have it be something closer to Tekken 6's system where they give you a huge array of stuff that you can buy for each specific character so that you can customize their look and outfit to a certain extent, but you're not making the characters look stupid.
Something like this, as a sort of extra thing to do in the game, would be nice. I think that there's room in the game for something like this as well. I mean, most fighting games these days can handle having an arcade mode, a story mode, a tag mode and an option to customize characters in the way that I described.
I hate this mentality from MK fans that adding more to the game is somehow a bad thing, like the pie for MK games is somehow smaller than it is for other games and if you add something like a KAK mode, you have to compensate for it by having garbage gameplay or characters that all have the same moves or whatever.
I don't accept that. To me, that still seems like the product of Midway trying to shove MK games out the door as fast as they could in order to stem the tide.
Yes, I do want them to focus primarily on the gameplay and getting that exactly right, but I sincerely doubt that 100% of the team is focused on that lone aspect. So why not try to give fans more and more and more to do? Can't we have great gameplay, great grapics AND a large variety of fun modes that will keep us playing, trying to unlock things etc?
What the heck is so bad about wanting a game that's a perfect 10? Sure, we probably won't get that game, but acting like adding one mode is going to somehow turn the rest of the game in to garbage just makes it sound like some people here already have wretched expectations not only of this next game, but of NR studios in general.
That's fine if you feel that way, but I'm hoping for something great and for me, part of making a great fighting game these days comes from offering a large variety of modes and giving the player a lot of stuff to do, to earn and/or unlock. I might not want modes like MK kart racing, because that crap doesn't have anything to do with fighting, but a way to make the characters uniquely yours?
I see nothing wrong with that at all.

I hope there won't be racing games and other such stupid ideas in mk2011... I hope it's just fighting and a story mode, that's enough and cool enough, in this way they can put more time and space into the characters, the endings and the storymode.
The crypt is another thing I like to see go.

I'll thank you personally when the game's loading time is shit because of this.

I'd rather not see Sonya in a maid costume or Scorpion wearing sunglasses.
Mortal Kombat's characters don't deserve the treatment that Tekken and Soul Calibur's characters have gotten. That shit made the characters ugly as fuck.
We're getting some wicked and detailed character designs. Be happy with that.

It's popular because it takes skills to play it. Sure, anyone can mash buttons but the juggling is where it's at, and if you don't know how to juggle, then you will fail against an experience player.
And it's funny that you insult the story when both that and MK are the same premise.
A tournament.
And characters looking ugly and basic, same could be said for MK characters. You remember Shredder Sub-Zero right? Liu-Kang and Law are based off Bruce Lee. And Johnny Cage is based off of a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie. What? Can't be original? Come on, there's characters based off Earth elements. Someone probably watched too much Captain Planet.
I love Tekken and one of the reasons I keep going back to it is because of the story. But I hate the customisation mode. Any alterisation made to any character just makes them look stupid. I prefer just fighting in their originalor alternate costumes.
A fighting dinosaur baby, a pandabear, a bear with cloths on, a whore named nina... how can you actually like that?
If they are both based on a tournament, tekken stole that idea from MK.
I like streetfighter, I like MK and I like darkstalkers but tekken doesn't have cool characters like those 3 classic fighting games, it is kinda boring compared to the much more detailed mk and streetfighter games.

I don't have a problem with Tekken's system for costume pieces, I more or less have a problem with the actual costume pieces themselves. Alot of them can be combined to make some really stupid looking outfits and I'm not a fan of that at all.
I'm also not a fan of attributing status effects and/or power effects to anything from weapons to clothing. That stuff was fine for Soul Calibur, but I don't want that in MK.
I think that if they made a lot of items that would actually work well when combined for a character while still keeping the spirit of that character (ie no sun glasses for Scorpion) then I think a mode like this would be good.
Oh, I also agree that things like special moves should not be changed. I mean sure, if you want to have things like changing the color of a projectile or adding some flare effects to thing like teleport uppercuts, fine, great, but don't change the amount of energy it takes off, don't change the size or shape of the projectile etc.
If you combined these two ideas where you add your own unlockable effects to things as well as clothing items that are in the spirit of the character, I think that could be a lot of fun stuff to unlock.
Not sure what problem people see with that other than this strange idea that adding all of this in will somehow distract the entire MK team, like cats with a ball of string, from actually making a good fighting game. I'm still of the opinion that you can have both, that one enhances the other and that adding more longevity isn't a bad thing, even if it's a tad bit superficial.

We get alternate colors, that's all that's needed. Let the character's own personalities shine through. Fuck pink scorpion and purple sub-zero.

That was my point of view, but we can also customize their faces/skins and special moves colors/shapes in a reasonable manner.

The solution for online gameplay is that there will be 3 rooms:
1- Room for standard MK characters.
2- Room for customized MK characters.
3- Room for standard & customized characters.
You are free to join any of them.
In this way, we'll give the freedom for not only "offline" players but also "online" players what to do and choose.

Hmm, I guess I know what inspired you to make that Tekken/MK thread.
I don't care for that, I don't even play as them. As for Nina, she's not a whore, she's an assassin and as a character, she's fucking awesome.
"If they are both based on a tournament, tekken stole that idea from MK"
Don't flatter yourself. You'll be surprised how much the Japanese don't give a shit for Mortal Kombat. Hell, Mortal Kombat is not even in popular video game tournaments. Every up to date fighting game including Tekken is in the tournament and even silly shit like Super Smash Brothers Brawl, but no Mortal Kombat, an American made game.
I wonder why?
Because japanese and chinese people are like aliens to me.
That's why.
I don't care what they think of what they do, they have weird music, create weird ass games (exept for mario and such) and most characters are based of chinese or japanese people, and then there is Pokemon.
They also kill all species of animals (exept for cows and pigs, the animals you SHOULD kill for food) and there are much too many of them already.
Even my nymfomanic nature-that-has-gone-without-male-food-for-months dislikes male chinese and japanese people, something extremely hard to do.
So don't talk about if China or Japan don't like mk cuz I don't give a fuck about them, they have an alien mindset, and alien language and on the other hand some primitive ways of living.
They can play tekken all they like, have tournaments and drown without mk I still don't care.
On the other hand, Starcraft and Warcraft are both American/Canadese games and they are adored in those japanese lands, so they don't diss out all american games.
The biggest reason they hate MK is because Liu Kang is a disgrace to their race, I would be mad aswel.

This is simply wonderful.
Anyways, back on topic...
Character customization? I can pass it with no remorse.
If they add a Krypt or Kombo Challenge, I'm fine. If they don't, I just hope the online mode is VERY SOLID, unlike MKvsDCU's and just like SFIV's.
Hating somebody and calling them alien is something very different.
I don't hate japanese or chinese people, I just think they are SOO much different than other people that they are almost alien-like.
Going nuts because starcraft II is announced and all the things they invent, you have to agree with me.
And of course I was overreacting that post, I'm glad it works all the time tho, i'm such a GOOD actor.
But whatever, I only wanted to mention this because I don't want to be called racist.

See, I'd have to agree.
Theres always a way to make the customize character interesting
#1 like the one guy said, In Tekken you can win/purchase accesories for your character. If your using eddie and you've progressed further, then your eddie looks better then someone elses. Tekken was a good example
#2 If they do indeed throw in Create-A-Finisher they should have massive grounds for that concept. Smackdown vs Raw 2010 for example!
Disturbing and strange how you can make some Finishers look but at the same time, Makes your guy really stand out!
If they had some type of limites but good foundation for creating a finisher, that would just go amazing with his customized look!
People do act dumb tho and make lame looking guys just to mock a solid fighter.
A well balanced set up would make it longer lasting n worth playing cuz look, If your a sub aholic and u love sub and another guy is using him, that's lame to look alike but with a dif color scheme!
You should have your own style look for your own SuB especially if you dominate with him.
To each his own I guess

If they have it in, there better be no way to make characters look retarded, if I see Sub Zero with a cowboy hat and a tu tu on, I'm going to shit on Ed Boon's face and tell him that is what the custom costumes look like.

No, this should not happen. I already mentioned to have "reasonable" customization features. Meaning features that fits each character standards.
So each character will have different customizations accessories/features, some characters that have some resemblance might share same but few things, like Kitana & Mileena & Jade, or Sub-Zero & Scorpion...
